ryan
well I just bought a 55in x85J sony 120 hz 4k tv. so far im loving it I like the 120hz and gsync its pretty sweet, I know there are better options like the q80 or q90 or the tcl 6 series or heck even the high sense u78 but for 750 cad it was tough to beat, for a better tv i'd have to pay more and when does it stop, if i simply bought the best id be out 10k. seems silly as I am just using it for light gaming and browsing the web. id say overall the tv is balanced good at everything. not great but good and for 750 tax included its not easy finding a tv thats good at most things like contrast motion handling and color gamut, as well as decent speakers that kinda suprised me.. thoughts in the tv? would you have bought a q60a what do you guys think of sony LED TVs https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x85j this was 100 cheaper I just don't trust TCL yet, its slightly cheaper and performs better https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/5-series-s546-2021-qled ZEUS-COMING SOON Omen 16 2021 Zenbook 14 oled Vivobook 15x oled

saturnotaku
Update on the kid's laptop. The Intel/RTX 3050 Ti model arrived, but despite Jarrod's Tech's review stating otherwise, the USB-C port was not providing charging in or video output, whereas the AMD/RTX 3050 one we got from MicroCenter does. So we're going to keep the latter. It's a nice budget machine that runs surprisingly cool and quiet. I really like that it included 16 GB of dual-channel DDR5 and a 512 GB SSD right out of the box. 1 1 Desktop: Ryzen 5 5600X3D | 32 GB RAM | GeForce RTX 4070 Super | 4 TB SSD | Windows 11 Gigabyte Aorus 16X: Core i7-14650HX | 32 GB RAM | GeForce RTX 4070 | 2 TB SSD | Windows 11 Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Gaming: Ryzen 7 6800H | 16 GB RAM | GeForce RTX 3050 | 512 GB SSD | Windows 11 Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro: Ryzen 5 5600U | 16 GB RAM | Radeon Graphics | 512 GB SSD | Windows
ryan
the 3050ti is actually a quite capable 1440p/1080p card and even the 3060(step up) struggles getting comfy framerates with pleasing settings. I Just bought a 120hz 4k tv as a monitor for my 3060 and im finding out the hard way, not many games will push 120/4k. I was thinking I'd be able to push it with all my old great games like fallout 3 witcher 2 gta v ect, games i'd enjoy playing but a touch withered. I can run some at 120-190fps at 4k but I have to lower alot of settings and there is a big IQ comprimize.. As for the kid's laptop 512gb 3050ti and 16gb is a nice setup, reminds me of my 1050 256gb 8gb setup. basically double that, and should be a good 1080p laptop for quite some time as the new console ports are not as demanding as people predicted including myself. I heard one bad thing though.....the brightness is terrible around 200 nits in HDR 100 percent sustained brightness. I think my 600 dollar tv does 600nits and has great blacks 6000 to 1 and better motion handling. like every tv has a comprimise but why would a tv that is 200nits cost so much...the qleds might be rated lower on rtings.com but there system of ratings is off. brightness contrast color and motion are king. Sandy Bridge
A Microsoft Natural 4000 keyboard. I would've bought them new till the end of time, but they discontinued 'em, so I had to find one on eBay. MSFT's new wireless ergonomic keyboard just isn't the same, the 4000 has the perfect key depth and actuation force for a non-mechanical keyboard. I'll be returning the Adesso keyboard I bought that I hoped might be a good replacement. Ergonomic, adds backlighting, sensible layout... but requires a lot more actuation force. Custom90gt
Had some decent luck on Ebay. Picked up a HP T1500 G5 UPS for $90 shipped (a rebranded Eaton 5P 1500) for my server, basically a $600 UPS that does pure sine wave. Also ended up scoring two APC AP7900 power distribution units for $80 bucks shipped as well. saturnotaku
I had to sell off my Razer Blade 14 but needed to buy a much more cost-effective laptop. I initially found a 2021 Legion 5 with a Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3050 Ti, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, and surprisingly, the 165 Hz G-Sync screen for $710 open box at Best Buy. Not a bad deal all-in since I had more RAM and SSD on hand with which to upgrade it. Less than a week later, I was trolling BB and found that a store in my area had an open-box Asus G15 Advantage Edition with the 5900HX, RX 6800M, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, and 1080p/300 Hz screen for just $620. Of course, I had to jump on it. I got it home and realized why it was that cheap - there wasn't a power supply in the box. Amazon had an OEM replacement available so I grabbed it. I was originally going to get a 240W, which was about $80 but decided to be better safe than sorry and went with the 280W that it would have come with originally. Another $120, and we're in business. The laptop itself was in decent physical condition. The only thing "wrong" with it that I can find is that the LED light bar on the front doesn't seem to work. It could be that the cables aren't properly plugged in, but I haven't investigated that yet. Even if not, considering the whole package cost less than $800 with tax, I'm not going to complain. 3 Desktop: Ryzen 5 5600X3D | 32 GB RAM | GeForce RTX 4070 Super | 4 TB SSD | Windows 11 Gigabyte Aorus 16X: Core i7-14650HX | 32 GB RAM | GeForce RTX 4070 | 2 TB SSD | Windows 11 Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Gaming: Ryzen 7 6800H | 16 GB RAM | GeForce RTX 3050 | 512 GB SSD | Windows 11 Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro: Ryzen 5 5600U | 16 GB RAM | Radeon Graphics | 512 GB SSD | Windows
Sandy Bridge
Just clicked the purchase button on a new laptop. All-AMD, 5800H plus 6600M, 16 GB 3200 MHz, 512 GB NVME (with a second M2 slot for expansion), gigabit Ethernet and a wireless card that NotebookCheck reviews as being blazing fast in this laptop. And just as importantly as the hard specs, a plastic palm rest, Windows 10 instead of 11, and a good keyboard layout with full-height arrow keys. That elusive combination is MSI's Alpha 15 (https://us-store.msi.com/Alpha-15-B5EEK-018). It ought to have about twice as good of battery life as any laptop I've ever owned, four times the GPU horsepower of my current 1050 Mobile laptop (and twice my desktop's RX 480), and more CPU power than any system I own today. I'd been waffling on this for a month, but when I checked today and it was $210 less than it had been, and I couldn't find anything better at Micro Center, that sealed the deal. It'll be the first time I'm running an AMD CPU since 1998. To be determined: Whether this also means I go laptop-as-primary-computer, or even only-computer. The desktop's only remaining advantages will be storage space, memory capacity, and perhaps acoustics. I still want to do a rebuild someday, but maybe I'll wait till the end of 2023 before jumping on the AM5 ship, with a nice Zen 3 laptop for anything that needs a little extra power in the meantime.
