I repurposed my extra DGFF GPU as an external GPU. It works perfectly.

I'm replacing the GPU on my desktop machine. It is also portable to carry out with an x86 tablet.

there are two empty spaces for GDDR6 memory on the graphics card, if you install them, will the graphics card resist? I mean the RTX 3500 ADA expand the memory from 12GB to 16GB?

No, it won't work. You need to maintain the GPU's bit width—6 slots mean 192 bits. The only upgrade option is from 12GB to 24GB. However, as of now, I believe the Ada series hasn't been cracked to support such a large VRAM capacity in their vBIOS.

The supported VRAM combinations are hard-coded in the vBIOS. Refer to the GPU-Z entry for confirmation.

Desktop 5000 Ada is AD102.  Laptop is AD103.  They don’t use the same chip.

does this confirm the possibility of upgrading from 12 to 16?

It’s not possible to enable the two unused solder pads on the PCB unless vRAM is soldered onto those pads. The only feasible upgrade would be to replace all six vRAM chips with larger, double-capacity vRAM chips, which means 12GB->24GB.

alas, there are no 4GB GDDR6 chips, they have never been released. Two free spaces for GDDR6 are disabled in the GPU chip itself
