SOLD - HP Omen 17 13900HX, RTX 4090 175w, 16gb DDR5 5600, 1.5TB SSD

Recommended Posts

I was originally planning on doing a full review on this unit like I did on the Asus Scar 18 and the Eluktroniks/Cyber Power Tracer VII.

My life circumstances have changed dramatically over the last 6 weeks, which is forcing me to sell off a lot of things I can no longer utilize

$2200 shipped. (original config was $3200 + Tax)

This unit was purchased with my own money. It is priced hundreds under retail, which combined with the lack of tax should save the end buyer around $1000 off new purchase.

The unit is in excellent condition, no visible wear, and is less than 2 months old.

This is the highest end configuration from HP in terms of performance

13900HX

175W 4090

RAM is 16gb of DDR5 5600

OS SSD is 512gb, plus a 1TB storage drive. Though if you have interest in a 4tb model, this can be added on at cost/no tax.

(I also have a 32gb RAM DDR5 CL40 5600 kit which could also be added on)

Screen is the Top End, 1440p 240hz model, with more than enough brightness for indoor use.

There are 2 M.2 slots

Thermal paste is traditional paste on the CPU and likely Phase Change (Honeywell variant) on the GPU as the paste comes from Nvidia with the cards. I confirmed this with the Omen Techs as part of my review prep, who had to do some digging to look it up.

I had done some limited testing on this unit, which demonstrated a very good CPU in terms of undervolting. I was able to reach -180mv without stability issues, which is pretty good.

There were also no drops in performance at that level which can sometimes happen with significant undervolting.

I did not pursue any further undervolt, as there was no difference in thermals beyond that point in my limited testing. Sometimes the enemy of good is perfection

GPU performs in line with other reviewers (see Gizmo Slip tech)

Port selection is excellent compared to other models of this era from competitors, with numerous USB-A and C ports, card reader.

Payment can be:

Paypal (plus the 3% fee if you don't want to do FF)

Zelle

USPS money orders

Don't have cash app or venmo.

I also have a 2tb 980 Pro M.2, 4tb Silicon Power and MP34 M.2's, Nintendo Switch Original, 5tb 2.5" Barracuda, KB Talking pro Bluetooth keyboard. Another listing will have a picture of everything and prices.

Wow that is a $450 sale/discount on the 13700hx model. The highest discount I saw before was $200

I wonder if they are not selling as well as they hoped. By the numbers, these are some of the best bang for the buck performers so that surprises me, but their advertising game isn't the best. When I talked with their sales team for background info on the laptop, they were clueless of the price/performance ratio of their model vs their competitors.

Regardless, I will drop the price to $2800 shipped.

The 13900x was either a $250-$300 upgrade (pricey little E cores), so that should reduce the post-tax delta down to $200 or less than the typical upgrade cost, at least for as long as the sale is going on. That also nets the 5600 spec ram, 13700hx gets 4800.

True, but unless you have a sales tax rate under 2% mine is still cheaper, and it is already tested to be a good performer.

I will add this is the 2nd unit I received as the first unit had some notable performance issues, so if anyone buys one direct from HP or one of the resellers I would test to make sure that you are getting all the performance you are paying for.

Regardless, it looks like I got a bit of the silicon lottery this go round.
