defcon42
Mine has a 850 Pro (512GB) installed and 2x16GB RAM Apart from games, encoding and startup, it could be mistaken as fanless design. Dead silent the rest of the way. I hope it will last for a couple of years more, since i don't need more performance. electrosoft
How's the 1060 treating you these days for gaming? I had a 1060 in my P870TM but the newest WoW just brought it to its knees in the Shadowlands and I had to dial back settings to medium so I upgraded. defcon42
Funny, i just posted in the gaming thread. I don't play WoW, but LOTRO and it runs fine in 4k with maximum details via the external display. But i think WoW is substantially more power hungry - despite it's age - since Blizzard is surely more capable of enhancing graphics design through the extensions than a rather small company as Standing Stone Games. LOTRO has also evolved through the years, but i can still max it out. defcon42
It's a pity, that OBSIDIAN-PC doesn't sell current laptops anymore. My machine is now 5 years old, is used as a desktop replacement and still has the same performance data and CPU/GPU temps as in 2017. I only clean the airflow ways twice a year, nothing else. A perfect example of a reliable, sturdy and silent BGA machine. defcon42
Since it is always plugged in, i have never really checked battery health. But there was also never a reason for it, no issues. Battery health (capacity) is still at 91%, which i find remarkable, considering it's age. On the other hand, it has been running on battery power for only a couple of hours during the 5 years. When taken abroad, i always use the power cord. Despite it's 200W brick, even in trains it works without issues. Linux
Am i really the one in here using this series? Since the BIOS is EOL i wanted check for a newer custom BIOS to flash if available and if it brings any advantages. I haven't had any performance or compatibility issues with the machine, so there wasn't any reason to look for new one. 2017 Clevo Laptop, TuxedoOS/Win11
Linux
Is there any other source to look for a custom/modded BIOS for my machine? Apparently in here nobody other than me uses this model and then the lack of support is not a surprise. 2017 Clevo Laptop, TuxedoOS/Win11

Shark00n
A friend of mine is still rocking an Obsidian built P650RP6-G. Going for almost 7 years and, believe me, he doesn't treat it very nicely 🤣 6700HQ and GTX1060 6GB I believe. He mostly plays Overwatch and deck-builder games. It only has a 60hz screen which is very much the weakest link of the package. I remember looking into it a few years ago and not finding a way of fitting a 120hz or 144hz FHD screen on it. But recently saw there's some laptop display adaptors available on aliexpress, and maybe there's just more display choice nowadays but is it possible to upgrade the screen to something faster and better? Ty I haven't seen anything apart from direct updates like SSD etc. for this model. Display is not an issue for me, my machine is connected to an external display 95% of the time. I use it more as a DTR. 2017 Clevo Laptop, TuxedoOS/Win11

If not are you familiar with the process at all? If it is AMI Aptio BIOS as far as unlocking hidden options and updating whatever modules are there to the latest including Managment Engine I could do it for you. But I am hesitant if you don't have hardware flasher. Linux
No, i don't. Didn't have to flash a BIOS this way yet. But it's cheap and i can get one, if i need to. But first i will have to find a suitable BIOS i guess? 2017 Clevo Laptop, TuxedoOS/Win11
srs2236
No, just once you get it, you can dump your own BIOS and I will mod it for you. The only thing we will need to find is its actual placement on the motherboard of your laptop😃 Hopefully not too much disassembly is required. And I checked for your model and I am 99% sure it is an AMI Aptio BIOS. Also, it might not be necessary as one person on this forum had success flashing with software. You can make BIOS backup with software without any risk. It's flashing modified firmware is where something might go wrong and laptop will not boot anymore. That's where the CH431a can restore the BIOS to previous state without problems. Only real requirement for that is another computer running Windows from which you do the actual flashing of the BIOS chip. So you can purchase the flasher just in case something goes wrong and we can proceed using software without disassembly required.
