I've since made 2 other custom cooling pads since the last time I shared on this post.

This is what I'm currently using. Same Arctic P14x2 at 13.6v. Draws under 4w, no need to carry around an ac adapter to power it.

I take it this will help a lot given your enormous combined CPU and GPU power draw!

How much beyond 200W have you taken your 4090?

I'm making my own dual psu to see how far I can push it. 600w total system power.

As of now I'm volt limited and it runs at around 250w at 2610mhz@0.95v

Ive already bought an elmor evc2 to volt mod it. Controller pins already identified.

woah man, you know your computer components       . 😛

So right now I think im going to order a laptop cooler instead of repasting as my laptop is 99 percent of the time stationary. whats the verdict, best cooler I can buy? thanks in advance

That's pretty crazy and looking at the desktop 4080 I would assume that going beyond 250W will not bring you that much performance gain but maybe going to 1V will add a bit more!

Also I just found your thread in the Asus forum so will continue to post there.

It depends on the workload. Lighter games don't even hit 200. Timespy hits around 220w. Furmark hits 250w.

with forza motorsport coming out on october 10th I will have to overclock my gpu and cpu to get playable framerates at 4k. So I broke down and just ordered a GT500 through amazon, came to 123cad with shipping included should have it on the 5th and will report back with results. I will be using max fans on my laptop and using max fan on the GT500 no point in buying something if you don't use its full potential. fingers are crossed but oddly I feel excited 😛

watched a few videos, color me interested. If I can overclock my cpu and gpu and not thermal throttle its a big win. My laptop display and tv are above 120hz and when the cpu matters this could mean the difference between gaming at 60fps vs 120fps on older titles. which of course is exciting. so far the only racing game I can max and get 120fps at 4k is motorsport 7 but im hopefully I can do medium ray tracing off at 4k/120 with the new forza game. fingers crossed

Identical settings for config fan on fan off is the only change

cinebench r23

cpu at 3.8ghz

iets gt500-80C

stock fan-94c(throttles)

14c difference and its real 😛

gpu did ok, not as good as cpu

75.3 with iets gt500

87.7 with stock fans and once again thermal throttling

12.4c difference.

I am surprised that there is not that much effort to produce a cooler that allows to:

- achieve better cooling than the laptop alone with the same noise level or

- the same cooling with a lower noise level

Oh well, good for people who like to wear hearing protection around their laptops 😄

to give you an idea how loud the cooler is at 78db

a train horn is around 110db. I think i'll pass on the upgrade as I find the iets gt500 already too loud. I can hear it as I type, it sounds like an air conditioner on my desk.

In the above video, IIRC the guy mentioned KeiBn coolers at the end. I've looked briefly at them, and they seem to have reasonably quiet / efficient coolers. Though I've really only checked a few customer reviews on amazon, so don't take my word on it.

Quote

A typical train horn can produce a sound level of 120 to 130 dB, which is equivalent to a jackhammer or a jet engine at takeoff. The sound intensity of a train horn increases with proximity to the source, and the noise can be deafening at close range. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain a safe distance from trains and avoid prolonged exposure to their horns.

Wrap me two of these coolers please.

Luckily I have a pretty nice solution I built for myself that offers a moderate reduction in temperature with little to no audible noise so I am not in need of getting one of those. I also happen to think that most of the cooling pads have a pretty obnoxious gamer-look.

My eyes are bleeding:

Yeah, agree with that. Just for that reason alone I'd probably get one of these only if I had no other choice and they were giving them away with a box of cereal or whatever :classic_laugh:

My all-time favorite laptop cooler is CoolerMaster Notepal U2/3 Plus. Simple as a hammer, minimalistic, lightweight, and upgradable also thanks to the design. Have had 4 of them overall, still own two (one cools my laptop, another my lady's) and have given the other two to family members. Ever since I got the first one - couldn't find anything that I would like as much as the notepal.

But I can understand where those designs are coming from. The majority of the users for these coolers are gamers (I'd assume), and most gaming laptops are no better in terms of looks than these coolers pads. I guess one could find use for all those lights once a year or something, but what the hell are you supposed to do with that Christmas tree the rest of the year has always escaped me... :classic_laugh:

im using the iets gt500. we should compare homemade to this cooler as its the only reasonable options. im getting like 73c overclocked cpu gpu after 8 hours of gaming. and with undervolting and vsync which makes more sense im getting 45c on gpu and 50c on cpu after 4 hours. and this is on a .9in thinish laptop that is known to throttle down to 3.5ghz on cpu and throttle gpu at 75c

These foam dam coolers look really interesting. I can't really justify splurging for the cooler itself when I have a Notepal U3 with Noctuas, but I'd be interested in making my own foam dam and seeing how that affects performance.

If anyone knows what kind of foam these use and if it's easily purchaseable in the EU, I'd appreciate any hints.

honestly just buy the IEts cooler, I know custom is better than a typical cooler but their custom coolers dont hold a candle to the gt500. im getting 49-50c while gaming I have a suspicion they are not getting 49c while gaming and even if they did something janky is at play. ive had the strikeforce cooler before and it was about as good as any custom cooler but the gt500 blows it out of the water.
