optane 1.6tb thats even a thing? why would you buy optane when memory and ssd prices are low. that would mean you need to speed up your hdd which next to noone buys these days. games require a ssd nowadays

ah no, im not talking about the small capacity optane ssds used as caches to speed up slow HDDs. there are larger capacity optane drives such as the 1.6 TB ones to be used as the main drive in a machine.

as such, they sport insane latencies and super high IOPS at low queue depths, plus they have absolutely insane writing durability and do not degrade in performance even when they are filled to the brink. not even the fastest regular NAND ssds can compete with that, thats why optane is priced so ludicrous (that and the comparably low storage density, were basically talking SLC here).

in short: an optane SSD is basically the 4090 of SSDs, ultra performance at ultra pricing 😄

even compared to pcie 5.0 drives the P5800X is miles ahead:

ive loaded a game onto ram before using ramdisk. it was faster but the biggest improvement in snappiness for me has been atlas os being properly installed it was so fast that i didnt get the chance to blink before a program loaded. general use it was impressive, if this vivobook had 2 ssd slots id have it on one and stock on another. btw have you heard of de crapifier? im having great success with it i had about 230-280 processes in the background and ran chis tituses extreme windows tweaks along with it and the processes dropped to 80 and its not even a modified windows it has the store and all the apps and functionality but it was extremely fast im still experimenting with tweaks but somehow someway atlas os just feels years ahead.

Yeah, along with upfront cost, charger maintenance is a concern I'd have.  My friend who owns a PHEV said the ChargePoint ones are the best around here, and they are not very good.  Chargers will go down for weeks before they get fixed - usually just one of a bunch, but still annoying, especially when their number isn't that high yet and the others might all be taken.  When the local gas station had a couple pumps down, there were more just a few feet away.

Though one positive thing is the Biden administration has required that all federally-supported chargers will have to include credit card support, which should reduce the need for 17 different mobile charging applications.  There are still a lot of legacy ones that don't support that, but that's another inconvenience that will hopefully be going away.  I think that regulation also included some reliability standards (e.g. it has to be up X% of the same or you owe the money back), but would have to check on that.

-------

I've played around with RAMdisks in the past.  Ultimately, my conclusion was the need to load everything first kind of defeats the point for me.  I could set my computer to put Steam and LibreOffice and Vivaldi and whatever all else on a RAMdisk when it starts... or I could just launch whichever thing I want to run off the SSD and not have it have to load all the other things.  If all I ever did was play Rocket League, it'd be perfect, but that isn't my use case.

Add in the need to write everything back to disk if you want it to have permanence... it's a cool toy, but even with 64 GB of (very cheap) DDR4 in my laptop, I think I'll stick with my PCIe 3.0 SSDs as my main storage method.

A 12-200mm MFT lens from Olympus/OM System as my 14-140mm bit the dust. But reading reviews, talking about how its soft at 200mm is a bit of a downer... So I'm not going to get it, also because its high priced.

Leia lume pad 3. Twice as good vs the second gen that I just bought for 750. It will likely cost 2000 and not worth it. When it drops in price I'll pounce. I want an air conditioner but window design doesn't allow for proper installation and when I open windows hundreds of bugs swarm in. Sweltering hot here can't imagine the states or the Sahara desert.

The states are colder now. No such thing as climate change.  SMDH.  I keep track of the area of florida where I had the house down there, and the temps up here this summer were hotter.  I have had mini split heat pumps for the past 5 years and it's the best investment I have made to our house. Heat in the winter to drop our power bills by 2/3s and AC in the summer to keep our house beer cooler cold!  Worth every penny.

I think you should reconsider. I have yet to see a crappy lens made by Olympus/OM.  I have used many lenses from different companies and Oly never had a bad one. Even their kit lenes are awesome.
