Dell Fan Management — Software for controlling the Dell laptop fan speed

@Aaron44126

I have Dell xps 13 9300.

Try test latest beta.

RPM and cpu temp show correctly.

Manual mode- work fine (50% - 4700 rpm, 100% - 8000 rpm).

But Consistency mode - dont work.

I think in Consistency mode:

- EC control - OFF

- two  threshold set limit for 50% and 100%.

But look at screenshot - fan ON, but Temp below  65 degree. And EC control ON + "Waiting for embedded controller" message.

All say that Consistency mode not active and system in automatic mode.

I just wanted to post a Thank You for making this program.  My Inspiron fan just developed a really loud noise problem (replacement fan already ordered), and turning the fan off and on again will temporarily fix the noise problem for a while.

Also, the PC can do a lot with the fan forced off.  I'm under 65C when using heavy websites (like Twitch).

Consistency mode has to wait until the EC lowers the fan speed and then lock it in.  It will follow the "natural" system behavior until the thresholds are met.  Run the system with a light load until it lowers the fan speed below 2400.  (If this never happens for whatever reason, consistency mode will not work, at least not without changing the thresholds.)

Make cpu stress and.. wait CPU Temp to fall below 65 degree

OK, lets wait a little

And again "Waiting for embedded controller to activate fans"

I dont see any difference from automatic (EC control)

For consistency mode to work the fan must be running above zero and below the RPM threshold.  The idea is to set this up so that the fan becomes locked in at the minimum speed that the EC would normally run it at.  It doesn't sound like the EC in your system wants to keep the fan at a speed between 0 and 2400.

Your RPMs actually seem really high.  I wonder if there is a difference in how they should be measured for this system...

Yes. Its run at 4400 rpm(if temp raise above 75 degree) and drop to 0 (then it cool down to 50 degree).

So if I want fan start at 65 degree to 50% rpm, and turn to 0% at 60 degree - i must use Speedfan+DellFanCmd-2.1.1.zip (EC off mode) ?  No other options?

Yes, Dell Fan Management / "consistency mode" is not set up to accommodate this sort of behavior.  You can disable EC fan control and use SpeedFan.  (Dell Fan Management GUI app also supports the same command line parameters as DellFanCmd.  It will not invoke the GUI if you include command line parameters when running it.)

Thanks a lot for this app! The laptop began making a lot of noise, and nothing could help. BIOS update, windows reinstallation, and other software didn't help.
For now, I can turn it off completely, and that's already good enough 🙂
Question: Is it possible to add RPM into Operation mode? I want to set up something like 800 RPM. Medium is 3200 and high is 6200. To loud.

Unfortunately, the BIOS interface for interacting with the system fans does not allow for setting them to a speed that specifically.  (I would love it if that were the case...)  You can only choose between off / medium  / high.

The automatic control is more granular.  The whole reason I did this "consistency mode" implementation was to be able to "lock" the speed at a lower speed than "medium"... but that will only work if you can get the system to set the fans there with its automatic control first, so that they can be locked.

Thank you!
It seems like the automatic mode does nothing, as well as the consistency mode. (In my case). My fan is living its own life, getting on and off randomly.
My RMP is 0 now with both modes ) I will test it longer.

hello all I love these tools include Speedfan, version 3 beta, version 2.1 cmd one. But I tried to use these tools for Dell Alienware Aurora include official Speedfan one, but none of these are working!

Is there anyother way for Alienware Dell Pcs?

Not sure which Alienware system you are referring to specifically.  None of these tools work with systems 11th gen (Tiger Lake / Rocket Lake) and later.  I thought that Dell had released their own fan control tooling for newer Alienware systems, as part of Alienware Control Center?  (I haven't ever tried it myself.)

I already checked Alienware Control Center but did not find any command option of it(maybe I don't know how to use command argument of that app?)  rather than shiny GUI interface with mouse click option which is not my cup of tea! . I am looking for cmd tools for newer Alienware Pcs where I can speed up and speed down for specific time using taskscheduler or something similar tools. Unfortunately, that Dell resisting us to control their fans whatever possible.

You need to set to "Manual" mode and "EC control off" to manually control the fans.

If it does not work, then it may not be supported on your system.

No idea, it seems that the EC is taking over control again after a few moments.  Unfortunately, the only systems that I have to test with are Precision 7000 systems.  Sometimes the BIOS version matters, Dell has "broken" the manual control solution that this app uses in later BIOS iterations on some systems.  And since Dell's 11th gen Tiger Lake systems (and later) fans can't be controlled at all, this project has dropped down in priority for me.

Do you know how to run this app by logging as Build In Administrator local account? it just can't run rather than normal admin local account, and can't get the cmd argument help file for how to control fans using command line (batch file). Does version 3s support cmd argument like version 2.1.1?

Another problem is, this tool includes version 2.1.1 does not support more than 2 fans! Speedfan tool shows my pc has total 4 Fans, but only 2 fans are operating! is there any other way where I can control those 4 fans with this tool?
