Dell Precision 7690/7790 Pre-release Thread

I had to replace m6 7760 keyboard 3 or 4 times now...annoying... so better quality would be nice. And, I like non-fn print screen button!

I found a laptop that we are so keen to see, DELL pro max 18 ULTRA 285HX, look at this beauty. On the left is the Dell precision 7680, in the middle is the DELL 16 PRO MAX ULTRA 285HX, and on the right is the 18-inch one

The middle one is the Precision 5490/5480😀, and the right one is the Precision 3590

Compared to the above, Pro Max Plus has Ethernet port on the left side (like Precision 7X80), full size SD instead of microSD, and overall less of a "wedge"-shape design going on.

Maybe. It’s strange that in this case they use old models for presentation, or maybe DELL pro max uses the chassis of the previous model, they like to do that. In new models, USB ports and others are decoupled from the motherboard, so it’s not difficult to leave space for USB ports in the old place in the same case

I'm confused by the screen of the model in the picture, it looks like 4:3

a very strange decision to place the hot air outlet directly on the screen, the screen covers the direct outlet of the hot air (DELL 16 PRO PLUS

They don’t usually announce these at an event… They’ll probably just put out a press release when they are ready. (April?)

I wanted to get a new laptop in February when Pro Support for my current 7740 ends. Ah, patience, hate it 😉

Ha, on top of that, since they didn't release a new system in 2024, you have to get a 2023 system if you don't want to or can't wait the 4-6 months until a new system is ready.

 

(Had this happen at work, they just bought "new" 2023 model systems for my team. They went for Lenovo P16 though, because Dell was quoting something like $1400 higher per system for a Precision 7680. I'm sitting this upgrade cycle out, transitioning my work system to macOS later this year.)

Yes, my plan before the Pro Max Plus 18 leak was to go with a Precision 7680. So, I guess I will go the patience way...
