pfSense - Software/Hardware

[Rage Set]

I figured I would create a place for people to talk pfSense firewall software and hardware appliances (made by Netgate or third-party). Whether you are completely new to hardware based firewalls or a seasoned veteran, post anything related. Do you deploy it for home, lab or business? What kind of appliance do you use? Prebuilt? Old PC? VM? What are your favorite packages?

Been wanting to try my hand at pfsense for a while now. Haven't had the time 😞

 

Been hearing good things though, save for that odd situation with it and opensense.

I'll be moving to PfSense once i have my x86 system for routing, i do infact have the x86 system already however its my VM server right now till i can get something more upgradable then its ready to be swapped over after getting some Wireless AP's.

 

So PfSense is on my list i have worked with it before its not that bad and its been improved since then so can't wait to get back into it again.

I picked up a Lenovo ThinkCenter M900 (SFF) to run pfSense on because I wanted to try it.  So far it's been awesome.  It's super flexible and has been totally stable for the past 4 months.  Now if only I were smart enough to take advantage of it, lol.

Hi @Custom90gt Can you tell me what you used for a second NIC in your Lenovo M900? I see a lot of the RT NICs out there, but I'm reading to shy away from those. Just wondering what you used. Thanks in advance. -Jeff

I found a good deal on an Intel X550-t2 card so I can do 10Gb and 2.5Gb to my cable modem.
