ÊtaPegasus Posted March 20 Share Posted March 20 Hi everyone, In the process of doing some inventory management of my (tiny) collection of hardware laptop spare parts, i came across an Nvidia Quadro P5000 lying in a box. I totally forgot i bought one, and i also found some benchmarks i made last year so i know it worked at some point. The issue i have is that the card isn't detected in the bios nor in windows but the pc is working fine otherwise. I tested it in both 17 ranger and M17x R4. This indicates me that the card is not shorted, otherwise the pc would not boot (am i right on this)? Any ideas on where to start? GuitarG Posted March 21 Share Posted March 21 Hi! I don't know Alienwares, but check out BIOS settings - what graphics mode you use ? Maybe try updating it ? Do you have two MXM slots ? Maybe try other one (if present). Card is not shorted, otherwise your power supply would protect itself and turn off not letting you power up laptop. ÊtaPegasus Posted March 21 Author Share Posted March 21 Hi, To answer your questions : - i'm in SG mode and i can plug a Quadro P4000 and it is recognized immediately. - on the 17R1 i only have 1 slot, but as i said, i tested the card on both laptop (and both laptop recognize the quadro p4000 and the rtx 3000 in the bios and windows) The card was known working, if its not shorted, what can it be ? nforce4max Posted March 21 Share Posted March 21 It is moments like this why I need to buy one of those adapter cards (mxm to desktop pci-e) for testing instead of depending on spare laptops due to the extra wear on connectors etc. As for the card if it is not shorted then it could be anything perhaps something went open. GuitarG Posted March 21 Share Posted March 21 Do you have multimeter ? Do continuity test on all coils on mxm board and we will see. One probe on ground, second touching one coil at time (don't forget to disconnnect battery and charger!) Then check voltages on all coils Also maybe some HQ photos from both sides ? The probing you are asking is done by putting the multimeter in continuity mode? GuitarG Posted March 26 Share Posted March 26 Can you show better photo of those places ? It may be just some dirt, but we have to be sure. Also try cleaning with isopropyl alcohol silicon die and see if it is chipped off somewhere. Check in continuity test those coils, I numbered them. One probe to ground (ex. those holes for X Clamp) and second probe to coils. Write number showing on multimeter. You can also double check by using ohm mode. Good luck!
