Keyboard issue.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have problem with keyboard. First time stop working W, i thought that problem is mecanical because of WSAD in game. I have M18X r2 and know that need green ribbon keyboard. My original is NSK-D8F1D. Green ribbon keyboad has M17X R4 too. I have two working and one for a parts. All have NSK-D8G01. I took one keyboard and worked... 5 minutes. Stop working few numbers. I put it back to M17X R4 and worked fine.

I took second one from M17X R4 and worked... one week. Maybe this type is not fully the same like mine. I bought keybord with the same number NSK-D8G01 and wored. Now, one week later stop working R T V B F G 4 5. WTF ?? It's not possible to broke 4 keyboards in one month.

I checked keyboard ribbon socket and cleaned. What else can I do ??

I can assume there is a mechanical problem in the keyboard connector. Probably there are some cracks in solder joints between the connector and PCB, or maybe there is some dirt inside ihe connector itself, or force in the connector is not enough for good and stable contact. Keys R T V B F G 4 5 share KSO6 line (pins 21/22 on the connector), so I suggest you to double check this line.

I checked and cleaned it after first keyboard Issue.

I found seller with completely new, never unpacked, green ribbon M18X r2 keyboard. I paid funny price for it.

New kayboard worked 1 day... now tot working more than half keys. It is strange but it is like lottery, a different set of keys stops working on each keyboard.

I have this problem now on my second M18x. Half of the keys on it stopped working and I replaced it with a new keyboard. But after a short time, almost all the keys on the new keyboard stopped working. I still have artifacts if the built-in video card is enabled. My main M18x used to have something like this. I once had such artifacts and D on the keyboard stopped working. A month later, the motherboard died (it seemed like a chipset, but I didn’t figure it out, I just ordered a new one for $200). I think your motherboard is dying and dragging down the keyboard. Either this is a connector or keyboard problem. But watch when you use your M18x in SG or IGFX mode. You may experience text distortions and problems with textures in games. Then the problem is definitely in the motherboard.

I think it has something to do with the motherboard (it dies itself or something with the connector on it).

Ok. The same seller from ebay has it on Ali. I pay about 175 USD. It's good price and maybe better to buy it.

EDIT:

I bought it.

@emcze

not sure at all but give this a try before you spend any more $$

Saw this on Reddit and thought of you :classic_dry:

"You can try this fix, but it may not work. Go to device manager, find Generic Usb hub under serial bus controllers, right click properties. It should say Hub 3. Go to power management and remove the tick for “turn off this device to save power” Do the same for realtek/intel bluetooth under bluetooth in device manager Do the same for Usb input device under human interface devices."

it didn't work for me, but I have a keyboard and it doesn't work in the BIOS, maybe it works for @emcze in the BIOS, but not in Windows?? Because I forgot to ask this

No, if I had keyboard issue was the same in the BIOS and in the Windows. If arrows keys stoped working I used arrows from numeric keyboard in the BIOS.

Pity.

Anyway I can not give proper credit for this schematic, came from old NBR I think.

If keyboard or trackpad stopped working in M17x R2 then it would not get power to even boot from battery.

Hope it might help just a little.
