Normal/Quick keystrokes on P775TM1-G keyboard result in many dropped keystroke registered in typed text.

Hi,

 

I just completed a clean install of Windows 11 24H2 of my Clevo P75TM1-G system, in order to install Atlas-OS 0.41.  My keyboard for the last couple of months is acting out. I was hopping the clean instal would resolve the issue, since I suspected a driver issue rather than a hardware issue. 

All keys are registering but quick keystrokes result in dropped registered keys along the way. I always manage to get the dropped keys to register going back to correct in the text pressing down slower and/or longer.

 

It seems better when I first start my PC or before starting to use m browser... it is very subjective since it quicky becomes a problem.

 

The driver for the keyboard was loaded by Windows upon installation.

 

Is the driver the possible cause of this problem or is it a sign that my keyboard is suffering form a hardware issue?

 

If I had to replace it where can I get a replacement (ideally US-QWERTY, or eventually FR-AZERTY)?

ahh yes, another victim of the absolute trash that is P775TM1 and all other compatible model keyboards. I wish I wasn't the bearer of bad news but those keyboards are very unreliable. I myself am on my third (in needing of a new FOURTH) keyboard. Exactly the same problem that you are describing. For me on all three keyboards the D button just started dropping keys like crazy. I wouldn't notice it that bad on typing, but in games like Rocket League and others it would become unusable. It is unfortunate, but these keyboards just straight up suck.

 

I have seen them on eBay and AliExpress for like 70euros. However I will try to fix mine by ordering some liquid metal paint or whatever it is called and fixing the traces in the keyboard layers. Actually just cleaning the layers fixed my issue with the D key, but I used isopropyl alcohol and i didn't know it will eat away the traces if not careful. So yeah. But 100% the keyboard itself is just horrible.

To clarify in your case the D key was registering just sometimes too slowly that it was skipped, especially playing games like Rocket Ligue.

 

In my case it happened suddenly.  I suspected interferences at first with Autohotkey since I used it to convert a secondary joystick throttle rotation axis into keystroke for a flight sim.  Then, I wondered about a malware or a driver issue since all the keys were working but just slower.  I am now wondering if the keyboard uses a controller and the electronics (capacitors?) is fatigue and on its way out.  Slow registering keys are from all over the layout of the keyboard.

 

Regarding cleaning the contacts, I have Isopropyl to clean electronics or before apply thermal past or liquid metal on CPU or GPU with coolers.  I have use compressed air blower or vacuum cleaner for dust without taking it apart.

Do you recommend cleaning them all? 

 

70euro sounds expensive especially since it might not last.  I was considering using a slim/compact usb keyboard resting over it in the meantime.  I'll look on eBay and Alibaba.  Il have to figure out the right part number if it is not clear stated on mine for the P775TM1-G.

I would press down D and it would work and then just vanish and not register no matter how hard i pressed it. I would let the laptop sit for a bit and it would start working again, but if i started pressing it for a bit again it would slowly stop registering again.

 

So it was more like it would work for a bit or it would start to not work and register 50/50 until not working at all etc. But in my case it was only with D.

Yeah cleaning is good! Isopropyl alcohol is very good too, just sometimes have to be a bit careful as it tends to eat away some stuff like traces or glue and other things. For CPU and GPU cleaning etc its good!

That's the thing, it is expensive and at one point I thought of selling this PC as I can't afford to change keyboards every 7 months...

Have you ever noticed your keyboard heating up?

Always use protective cover for these keyboards. Also, the ribbon cable is very sensitive to bending.

Some areas are warmer but not too hot to the touch though. I am however concerned about temps overall since my P775TM1-G with i9-9900K with RTX2080 (Mobile) is running hot very quickly under heavy load and max fans, cpu reaching Tj-max=100c and GPU 87c (T-hotspot up to 103c), and the PCH can go higher than 75c.  Note the Cpu is delided and direct die cooing and with the GPU liquid meta was applied two years ago. The latter might affect the keyboard from what I gathered.  I will ask about mitigating these temps on this thread below as a follow-up from past discussion on the topic:

I have been careful for the most part with protecting the keyoard.  The ribbon cables were checked and option to clean-up as suggested before.

 

It seems slighly better when I first start my PC. So it might be subj6to temperature, but at first I suspected it to be better before having a browser running with lots of tabs or apps running. Very subjective.

 

@srs2236 parts from https://www.cdrtd.com/for-clevo/ are advertized cheaper pricing than 70euros but mostly out of stoc.  Is it a reputabe site for parts?

 

Are they alternate SN for a US (english) keyboard? 

Here in attachement is a picture of m current keyboard's label P/N: 6-80-P7500-013-3  S/N: 820001526 and from Vendor Sunrex.

Two post to secure it, and the back lit LED is not that important to me.

 

I coud use French as a second choice.   Another option is to plug in a flat usb keyboard, it won't be much more bulky to carry arround than this chassis and 300W charger for this Eurocom Sky x7c  (Cevo P77TM1-G) 🤣.

this sounds similar in issue to what I experienced, I believe there is an issue with one of the drivers that gets automatically pulled and it's congestion on ambush, if you put your system under load and hold a key then release do you continue to see keystrokes for a short time after releasing?
