[P750TM1-G] Upgrade Options

Dream

Recommended Posts

I'm taking a break from reviving my old M18x R1 to check what options I have for my old P750TM1-G.

I tried searching for this exact model, but it seems there wasn't a thread for it. I do vaguely remember how P750TM is just the same as some others (model name-wise), but it's been a while.

Here's what I have for this at the moment:
- i7-8700k
- 16 GB RAM (1200 MHz)

- 1070

I was thinking about a basic RAM upgrade, but I don't know what I can use for this unit. What other upgrades should I be looking into?

Depends on how much money you have to spend.

Tehnicaly that laptop can support up to 9900KS and RTX 3080 MXM, but realisticaly I would personaly go with a 9900 non k if you find one.

For RAM, the best one are, like @Maro97 stated, the Crucial Ballistix 3200 MHz.

Desktop - MSI X670E Tomahawk Wifi (cheap Ebay mobo that I fixed) | AMD 9800X3D | 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 Dual Channel Kit | MSI RTX 4070TI Suprim X  | Alienware 27 AW2724DM 2K 165 Hz Gsync | Samsung 990 Pro Nvme - Boot | Other various storage | Windows 11 Enterprise x64

SOLD - Clevo P870DM-G | i9-9700K 4.5 Ghz on all cores (-50 mv undervolted) | 32GB Hyper X Black 2666MHz | Clevo RTX 2080 3.1b undervolted for better temp 1905Mhz @881 mv | AUO B173HAN03.1 144hz Gsync | Samsung 980 NVME | Dsanke TM BIOS - Chujoi13 adapted based on needs | Network Card: Intel AX210-AX | Windows 10 Pro x64

Crucial Ballistix 3200 MHz, DDR4, SODIMM, Memory Kit, 64GB (32GB x2), CL16, 1.35v

is the best ram for your laptop and it's very rare you can buy it in used condition

Thanks.

Why not go for the K version? How are the performances between those two. I'm always interested in knowing what the max I could go for then change the budget from there.

Also, for both (or anyone here), where do you buy parts for these things these days? I know I got mine from here (well, the old forums) when I fixed my other laptop.

The K are hot, I mean really hot and the P750 colling capabilities are way limited than for example P870 series cooling, and even those could not keep it in check.

With the non K version, you wont leave behind a lot of real world gaming performance but the TDP is way lower.

What's been the temps on this K series? The one I have is only OC'd at 4.8 GHz, and the temps are in the high-80s to low-90s on heavy load (as with most laptops).

I'm also unaware up to which GPU my current CPU can handle before there's a bottleneck to it.

Lastly, any ideas on where these pieces are best bought at these days?

The 9900k is way hotter, it will thermal throttle under most tipical scenarios if not undervolted.

The best GPU you can go with in this laptop is a 3080 MXM wich you can find on ebay right now at a decent price.

You will also need the right cooling for the card like this one.

That sucks about the temps. I already have my CPU undervolted with TS at the moment, and I feel for the temps being really high like I mentioned above.

Hmm. Would you recommend to stay at my CPU + “only” upgrade both RAM and GPU?

Any disassembly video(s) you would recommend given there’s an extra/replacement (?) heatsink involved if I go for 3080?

maybe my p870tm upgrade help you

My takeaway from briefly checking your thread is that I might be fine keeping my CPU at the moment while upgrading both GPU and RAM. Do you have any recommended video(s) for the teardown and maybe specific ones for the GPU?

Thanks again for the RAM suggestion. Where did you buy your parts? Also, can you please remind me again the difference between the naming conventions of the laptops (P870TM, P750TM1-G, etc.)?

How is their heatsink any different from what Runix linked above (the one from AliExpress)? Do you think it's better than what's over AE? Do we have a diagram on optimal thermal pad placement for the 3080?

Don't worry about the thermal pads. It will be easy for you to adjust their thickness when installing the card. The important thing is to find the modified heatsink for RTX 3080.

You're correct about the 64 GB kit being rare. I only see a 32 GB one for sale.

Have you seen the heatsink Runix linked above? I was wondering what your thoughts on it are compared to what you got here from Developer79.

If you found crucial ballistix 1.35v CL16 32gb 3200mhz ram kit then go ahead and buy it i have that kit it’s amazing . It’s 2666mhz 1.2v at stock so i activate the XMP to be 3200mhz with 1.35v . and for the heatsink i have p870 i got my modded heatsink from developer79

Yeah, I might just do this 32 GB RAM first. It's the only thing available over Amazon. They have the 64 GB listed, but they don't have a stock for it.

I foolishly ordered these because I want to fill all DIMM slots for my i9-9900KF.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09NLCG8NJ?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image

and is the P750DM3 radiator the exact same as the P770DM or P775DM3?  I’m going to shoot my shot on a used one but just wanted a confirmation instead of reading conflicting pages.

Heatsink tag say 6-31-P75D3-302 (GTX 1070m), and I keep finding that part number on 17” models with the 1070.
