iMemphis
Been a while since I had a laptop, but I just ordered the M18 R2 5090. I was looking for the "best" docking station that would take advantage of the monitor I have. I use the 57" Samsung Neo G9, and I want to be able to run it at 240hz. The only way to run it at 240hz, I would need DP2.1, and I was wondering if it was possible to find a docking station that would allow for Thunderbolt 5 to DP, if that would work with this? I want to be able to run the 5090 to its fullest, and curious which docking station would allow for it? I think Dell has one, Razer, and Anker also has a docking station. Anyone have recommendations on which to buy? Some people recommended the Dell workstation, but I was also looking at the new Anker Prime Thunderbolt 5 Dock. Has anyone tried the Anker prime out, since it has TB5 Thanks

Aaron44126 Posted yesterday at 12:36 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:36 PM No, I've only used the Dell workstation docks (TB16, WD19DC) and I've never had a favorable impression of them since the ePort docks went away. They've always seemed flaky to me — stuff randomly not working on the first attempt and needing a connect/reconnect to try again, the BIOS complaining about not enough power at boot, stuff like that. I'm not using a dock with my Precision 7560, I just plug the stuff directly into the system. It doesn't leave my desk very often, so it's not a pain point to me. Maybe a third-party dock would work better, but I've never had the opportunity to try one. 1 Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) • Dell Precision 7560 (work) • Full specs in spoiler block below Info posts (Windows) — Turbo boost toggle • The problem with Windows 11 • About Windows 10/11 LTSC Spoiler Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) M2 Max 4 efficiency cores 8 performance cores 38-core Apple GPU 96GB LPDDR5-6400 8TB SSD macOS 15 "Sequoia" 16.2" 3456×2234 120 Hz mini-LED ProMotion display Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3 99.6Wh battery 1080p webcam Fingerprint reader Also — iPhone 12 Pro 512GB, Apple Watch Series 8 Dell Precision 7560 (work) Intel Xeon W-11955M ("Tiger Lake") 8×2.6 GHz base, 5.0 GHz turbo, hyperthreading ("Willow Cove") 64GB DDR4-3200 ECC NVIDIA RTX A2000 4GB Storage: 512GB system drive (Micron 2300) 4TB additional storage (Sabrent Rocket Q4) Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 15.6" 3940×2160 IPS display Intel Wi-Fi AX210 (Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3) 95Wh battery 720p IR webcam Fingerprint reader Previous Dell Precision 7770, 7530, 7510, M4800, M6700 Dell Latitude E6520 Dell Inspiron 1720, 5150 Dell Latitude CPi
ssj92 Posted yesterday at 02:49 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:49 PM You need to find a TB5 dock. There is a list of docks on reddit. And specifically make sure it has DP 2.1 or HDMI 2.1. I've used dell workstation docks but they will not support that high a res and refresh rate. Other option is, plug monitor directly to laptop and use a basic type-c hub for everything else 1 Alienware m18 : Intel Core i9 13900HX @ 5.0Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 4090 | K1675 | 2x1TB SSDs Alienware Area-51M : Intel Core i9-9900K @ 5.3Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 2080 | AX210 | Samsung 970 Evo+ Alienware M18x R2 : Intel Core i7 3920XM @ 4.7Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | AX210 | Samsung 980 PRO Alienware 18 : Intel Core i7 4930MX @ 4.5Ghz | nVidia Quadro RTX 5000 | AX210 | Samsung 980 NVMe More Laps: M14x | M14xR2 | M15x (980m) | M17xR2 (RTX 3000) | M17xR3 (WX 7100) | M18xR1 (RTX 5000) BEAST Server: Intel Xeon W7-3465X 28 P-Cores | 2x nVidia RTX Titan | 128GB RDIMM | Intel Optane P5800X CS Studios YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CSStudiosYT
