ZOTAC GTX 1060 MXM - eDP vBIOS

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

TLDR:

Does anyone have a vBIOS that supports eDP output for a ZOTAC GTX 1060 MXM that has device ID 1C20 (as opposed to many MXM 1060s having device ID  1C60) ? This would be for a zotac zbox magnus card that I have cutdown to fit inside my HP Zbook 17 g3, this card originally has no eDP out but does have HDMI and DP out.

Thanks

Long version :

So I have a Zbook 17 g3 that originally had a M1000M, I swapped in a 1060 MXM that I got for 100 euros just about, this 1060 is a long version that was inside a zotac zbox magnus en1060. I cut it down to make it fit inside my Zbook + modded heatsink (see pics).

The card works in hybrid (optimus) graphics that is set in the bios, stress testing it, it sometimes hits the 78w power limit, however I can see that it is held back by the HD530 graphics that are in my i7-6820HQ. 1060 utilization not always reaching 100% even when CPU is at around 30%

The Zbook 17 g3 has an option in the bios to set discrete graphics mode, however doing this caused black screen with backlight + no HDMI output, I then read somewhere this could be due to UEFI not being set, I then changed boot mode to UEFI and now I have black screen no backlight but HDMI out works.

I can still flash vBIOS from WINDOWS to the card : I put the M1000M back inside and go into the bios and set hybrid graphics, I swap in the 1060 in again so that I can flash a vBIOS with nvFlash... It's a pretty big pain. Right now I have tried a few mobile 1060 bioses on techpowerups but no luck getting eDP out. I have read on french forums that ZOTAC cards need an eDP bios but for the life of me I can't find it. Some point towards an MSI 1060 MXM Bios however it has device ID 1C60 (possibly g-sync related???) and my 1060 has device ID 1C20. I flashed this 1C60 bios to my card but it is now bricked, I need to unbrick it with my programmer.

So if anyone can help me out on getting an eDP output from these ZOTAC pascal MXMs that would be awesome 😄

Worse comes to worse, if it's impossible I can still re-enable optimus and use the card like that.

Cheers
