MXM cards that only worked with OPTIMUS finally DO work with edp only laptops

We all thought that RTX cards only worked with optimus enabled laptops.

With a bit of digging (thanks @SuperMG) and testing, we can definity assume cards such as RTX (Turing, ada...) do work with edp only laptops provided they have DP_D or EDP lanes on the MXM port.

Baseline:

concept (thank you SuperMG):

How to:

On clevo P870, solder MXM lanes 23 25 27 (PNL PW et BL) to 3.3V_RUN (via mxm lanes or directly on motherboard)

We tested on 3.3VS and it did not work perfect (sometimes random black screen)

Proof of work:

Test with SuperMG RTX4070 MXM

https://ibb.co/zT1FTxQZ

Test with my Quadro RTX 3000 PNY (Adlink):

Drawbacks:

- brightness control don’t work (stays in full brightness)

- requires soldering skills.

But SuperMG is working on a flat ribbon that would do the wire trick without any solder skills.

- drivers still need modding (nvidia at least) thus secure boot might fail.

Will most probably work on:

- Alienware M17x r4 and 17 R1 with edp screens

- dell m4/6700, m4/6800, precision 7710 / 20

- all Clevo lineup ranging from p771zm to P775tm (X170 may work too)

- msi gt72, gt73 series

- Hp zbook g1 to g6, elitebooks 8770, 8570

- other whitebooks or derived laptops with mxm

I got the cables.

They work with my P570WM. I tested the 4080. Cable 100% works for backlight.

278, 280 are always 3.3V_RUN.

Sleep mode and brightness control works!  but...

It displays on windows without a driver but at the end... I can't install Nvidia drivers.

DDU + install thru disk .inf file

DDU + NVCleanInstall

None work! Even restarting, I can see the bios splash, the windows loading screen and BLACK SCREEN!

Although, I can access to the windows "safe mode" to uninstall the drivers, but it's not worth it because it'll again blackscreen once the drivers installation has been completed.

I tried to use Anydesk, once the driver installed, it says the drivers have been installed successfully and on the device manager... I got an error 43 and the screen resolution was at 640x480 instead of 1920x1080 initially...

EDIT: SAME HAPPENS WITH THE RTX 4090 HELP!

This card was working fine as a slave card too... I don't understand guys, help please...

Probably these cards have DP++ or something that's blocking display for the standard DP display I have.

I'll test these cards on Dell Precision 7720 and P870 later on...

EDIT: I TESTED THE RTX 3080 MXM... It works on the P570WM!!!

1080p 120Hz! Drivers installed successfully! Full TDP, no bugs! Sleep mode and saving mode work!

I suppose the 3080 has basic DP and not DP++...
