M18x R2 with MSI 970m 6gb, not installing newest drivers.

Recommended Posts

Hello I bought a m18x r2 with a 970m 6gb. I can't get newest drivers to install. They still support it, but I think the hardware Id do not match which results in driver saying GPU not recognized. How do I modify the drivers?

EDIT: Omg halleluja for nvcleanstall i finally got it to install!

Yes. Nvcleanstall is our friend since we mainly have not supported GPUs in our systems.

I think natively, the 970m was supported for the AW 18, not the M18x R2

Alienware M18x R2 i7 3720qm -> i7 3940XM / Dual 7970m -> 980m SLI -> HP Quadro RTX 3000

Alienware 17 R1 4710MQ -> 4930mx / 880M GTX -> PNY Quadro RTX 3000

HP 8570w / i7 3820qm / Quadro K2000M

HP DV6500 / i7 T7200 -> i7 T9500 / 2GB RAM -> 4GB RAM / Atlas OS

Yeah i had no idea before buying it. Would a 1070 work without modding the laptop? i have never done upgrading a gpu in a laptop. I could get a 980M for 112 euro but i think a 1070 would be better.
