Like you can set a custom charge %, set 4 different modes.

Because you can get the TDP unlock bug to work without needing to reach the 100% level by manipulating the Custom charge values.

 

You can stop charging in the BIOS and set your laptop in "Idle" state and that's how you can unlock the TDP.

 

In "charging" state, you can't unlock the TDP.

 

The K KYUER battery I bought works with this mod (have the 5 options) but sadly it's not available anymore on Amazon.

 

I bought another unknown battery, same FV993 but it doesn't have any advanced options...

 

I bought 2 another batteries to test with. All have the blue color. One is a FV993 97Wh and the other one is a 60Wh one

Thanks for the tip—I would never have thought of that 😁 Yeah, I have all the options in the BIOS. The way I use my laptops, it’s not a problem—they’re almost always plugged into the charger. But maybe I should give it a try and set the charge limit to 90%. Let’s see if that triggers the error.

Your battery LED on the keyboard should be off, which means the laptop is in "Idle"

 

Do you have a picture of your battery's label? Because it has the 5 options and I need that for my M4800.

I bought 3 "blue" batteries from 3 different brands. 2 FV993 and one 60Wh since the K KYUER one is no longer for sale.

 

Only one of them had the advanced options.

 

The Tanch, tanchs.com battery.

 

I tested the TDP unlock mod with an Heaven benchmark test (before and after):

 

100% battery, idle: OK passed

99% battery, idle: OK passed

96-97% battery, idle: OK passed 

89% battery, idle: Not passed, reset the TDP unlock

 

So it means between 90% to 100% in idle, we can unlock the TDP bug. We no longer need to wait till the battery is at 100% in order to activate the TDP unlock bug.

 

Between 50% to 89%, it's in charging state, we can't unlock the TDP bug.

 

That's what the Custom Charge state. Between 50% to start charging and 90% to stop charging.

 

I didn't change the bios values.

 

To test:

 

Between 30% to 49%: it's in idle state, we can maybe unlock the TDP bug.

 

Below 30% in idle state, the system might be unstable.

Yeah these M4800, M6800 laptops suck balls.

 

Tried on the K Kyuer one. It's like the tanch one.

 

M6800 with 4900MQ and 4080: 

I tried at 95% and the TDP unlock resets... 

At 97% not reset...

 

TDP unlock resetting mid benchmark = 270-275FPS

TDP doesn't reset = 290FPS

 

I use 330W PSU for all of my tests.

 

WHY? HOW? Explain please.

 

Edit: tested at 91% on the M4800. TDP resets at like 70% of the benchmark...

Yes, you're right. I've read several times that these models are very picky when it comes to power supplies and batteries.

I experimented a bit yesterday as well and can confirm that your tip works. But in my case, there don’t seem to be any problems even below 90%. Unlocking the TDP worked at a 57% charge level. The LED on the keyboard is off, and Windows reports “57% available”—in other words, it’s not charging.

Just ran Time Spy—no problems, no reset.

Is there any way you can limit your GPU's power consumption? I can't shake the feeling that this is the cause. I mean, the official MXM 3.1A specification calls for 55W, but your GPU uses well over twice that. Maybe some fuses are tripping under load.

P.S.: It's amazing that Dell designed in so much headroom in the first place...
