Clevo X170SM-G and X170KM-G RTX MXM 3.0 and 3.1 compatibility issues

Hello.

 

This could be the best upgrade ever in MXM terms if someone can help me.

 

I tested the RTX 4070 MXM and RTX 3080 (X-VSION) without any heatsinks to see if it displays something on the X170SM-G.

 

 

Nothing. Backlight mod is on. I can change the brightness of the display but there's nothing on the screen.

 

Both of the cores are cold in the touch.

 

These GPU worked in a P775TM1, M17X R4 120Hz and P870TM1 (Also the Precision M4800 with the 4070).

 

These P775 and P870 work with any RTX 20XX and 30XX from Clevo. So they use eDP in DP_D like on the X170SM-G, meaning they are electrically compatible. 

 

So my 4070, 4090 are working in my P775TM1.

 

The RTX 3080 Clevo also works in my P775TM1. 

 

So what's the catch there? If SM/KM Clevo cards work in P870/P775, in reverse, why can't standard MXM cards work in the X170?

 

Even my Quadro P3000 UEFI doesn't display. The laptop refuses to boot with it but with the RTX 4070 and 3080 it boots (no display).

 

That could actually help me answer some questions:

Did any of you try a standard MXM 3.0/3.1 card like a GTX 1070, GTX 980M UEFI, Quadro P3000, P4000, P5000 in the X170 laptop?

 

If none of you can't get these cards to work in the SM-G then what's wrong? Help please.

Will the KM accept the standard RTX, Quadro better than the SM-G?

 

 

This X170SM motherboard I was using has an issue with the dual channel and it's coming from the PCH, so are the PCIE PEG lines impacted? It displayed with an RTX 3080 Clevo before..

 

I hope I didn't waste tons of money in the heatsink because of that...

 

Edit: someone confirmed the X170 (maybe SM) not being able to work with standard mxm cards. Dunno if the KM has the same issue or not.

Did the X-VSION fully work in the P775TM1 (POST, display) ? Did you power it fully with the MXM slot? I've heard the 3080 plops right in with the right heatsink and a .inf mod, but a card from a whole other vendor and a completely different board layout working?? If this is one chinese madlad away from having a heatsink and working, you struck gold.

4090: 19.8-20k graphics score in TimeSpy. 

 

Shows BIOS page. 1x DP, HDMI, eDP work.

 

I'm waiting for the ultimate watercooling heatsink for 9900KS and RTX 40XX. The RTX 40XX with the current 3 heatpipes custom heatsink works so well. My CPU heatsink at the moment is crap and could handle max 155W before throttling. Might upgrade the CPU fan too.

Same issue is happening on a working X170KM board!?

 

GPU die is cold. Laptop can boot without display. RAM and CPU OK.

 

This is definitely a power related (E1 to E4 pins) issue or something in the RSVD pins that's triggering the GPU to work.

 

I need to find the schematics for the X170 but where... I need to compare the P570WM3 to the X170 and the P775 to the X170 and see the real differences.

 

I don't know what Clevo did. I don't think it's a BIOS issue. Correct me if I'm wrong
