TechInferno is still there but I'd suggest against spending much time over there. Years ago they thought it was a good idea to virtually use users computers for mining (or something like that) without their knowledge or permission. They still try and scam people out of money for 10 year old unlocked BIOS' and if you DM someone with a link to a free BIOS then they'll delete the message.

NBR and Alienowners were closed down.

I still have an account there and about a year or so maybe 2 or 3 dont remember I gave $6 for a bios or something else to download and the next month they took another $6 out again automatically, so I had to put in a request to stop and they stopped. But I thought that was rude of them. I dont like the atmosphere there at all, they act like a bunch of "Wise Guys" and are probably just hiding behind the PC screen! like a bunch of "know it all's".

Yea, I know the Big Guys left and I didn't know they edited posts and DMs, I just go there when Google gives a link to read, and as far as the Big Guys I have to say " Where would Alienware be if it wasn't for @Mr. Fox, @johnksss and @sv17?

They paved the highway for the likes of dell and nvidia and least of all us! I would have given up on these machines long ago but I can keep working on them and upgrading to this day!

Mrfox is awesome helped me out a few times when I needed a m4000m modded :) ATM I'm looking at unlocking my bios . Since I have the ranger and I have a very odd screen the is edp but 60 hz yet Optimus works .??? Very odd plus opening up my laptop both display cables lvds and edp are plugged into the screen . Idk how bit they are . I got my ranger used the guy bought  a screen replacement I've tried u plugging either cable thinking maybe he made an error but with either cable unplugged results in the 8 beeps or so . So it's a weird configuration but it works and the screen looks great . Anyway point I'd I'll keep an eye out for an rtx . I did find a rtx 5000 for 600 hp but I'll then need a bios chip and programmer . Long story short of anyone can provide a tutorial on flashing the a17 unlocked bios od appreciate it

Going to need a new thread soon. Heatsink tracking for A4500 says it was delivered today...should see it in 2 hours.

Might just have to install A4500 this weekend.

Also got a Alienware 17 coming that will inherit the RTX 3000 from this thread.

I installed the zotac 1080 mxm card in Alienware 18 in both slots, it works perfectly in the first and second, the results in games and tests are very good at about the level of P5200. ☝️

I also installed the same 1080 card in Alienware A17, it also worked fine, but I had to edit the case pretty much everywhere.

I would be interested in seeing the installation in more detail, and the spaces after it is assembled, if you are so kind.

I do not advise installing it in the first slot, it does not fit there, you will need to solder the power connector and transfer it externally with a wire, it is better to install the card in the second slot, where it works better and warms up less through optimus.

What vBios are you using in that card please! I have been trying an Aetina gtx 1080 mxm and I also keep getting code 43 like @ssj92 with his Aetina A4500 mxm. I have flashed quite a few vBios, and after reading your post about Zotac card I tried the Zotac vBios and still code 43. This happened in both my m18x r2 and m17x r4. They both run P4000 in SG perfectly, but the 1080 mxm just won't kick in

In Alienware 17, I also installed the zotac 1080 card, it works fine, but under load it enters trolling, apparently there is not enough power to it, or the slot on the motherboard is too weak for this card. Bios used this one..

In Alienware 17, if you install zotac 1080, you will need to break off the upper bar, it will not fit like that.

OK I have that 1 I downloaded from techpowerup and it showed in bios and let me install drivers but gave a code 43.

some of the vBios didn't even show the card in bios or device manager. So I kept flashing different vBios and the Alienware ones showed the card but not all the Dell vBios  and the Nvidia vBios would not show. I put the P4000 back in the m17xr4 and another day I want to try the GTX 1080m in the m18xr2 2nd slot like you mentioned. Never tried the 2nd slot but it gives hope!

Thanks for the reply

You mean the .inf file? I think I've been doing it right, the only part that I wonder about is the sections. I usually follow the section # just ahead of where I make the new entry but I did see a post on NBT about trying other section #'s. But never had a problem with P4000, GTX 970m, 980m, 680m, 660m, or K4000, but that is the extent of my cards except for the GTX 1080m. Its the first card I'm having trouble with. And since it is Aetina like A4500 that @ssj92 is having trouble with makes me suspicious even though he had success with Aetina RTX 3000. I do want to get a GTX 1070 mxm but I only see them from China and the two 980's I bought from china seem a little off so I get a little leery buying from there.

Hello, I just installed the rtx 3000 hp in my alienware 18 (2015) of the ones that are for sale on ebay, I really forgot about the heatsink so I used the same one from the alienware 18, I modified certain things so that it can fit Now I only have 2 questions, what would be the best Overclock for my i7-4940mx? I currently have the rtx 3000 and a p3000 on the 2nd MXM GPU port, and what would be the best ram for this little beast? I have the HyperX Impact 32gb 8x4 DDR3L 1866MHz cart, oh I also made some modifications to the cpu, to improve its cooling, I had to use liquid metal, currently I have it overclocked to 4.1.; The modifications of the heatsink of the cpu are made with a heat-conductive glue

Given you're running your i7 4940MX in an Alienware 18 and with liquid metal, I'd say you should be able to achieve 4.3 GHz with max fans assuming the CPU isn't a crap sample. I'm running an i7 4930MX in my Alienware 17 and can get it to 4.2 GHz stable as my max daily driver frequency. It can go up to as high as 4.5 GHz, but only with a hefty 125mv overvolt and only on a cold winter day. I'm using liquid metal as well.

Given you're using the Alienware 18, you should be able to do better than me as the cooling on the CPU side is significantly better in the Alienware 18. The i7 4940MX is also supposedly a better bin than the i7 4930MX, but sometimes the 4930MX overclocks better. My i7 4930MX is a qualification sample I bought from Japan for a cheap price, so I don't know how well it stacks up against other i7 4930MX and i7 4940MX CPUs.

As for RAM, I'm running this in my Alienware 17: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UVOVV12/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

I don't know if the kit is even sold anywhere anymore, but those sticks are the fastest DDR3 laptop RAM you can get. They should be compatible with the Alienware 18 as I've found that generally any part that is compatible with the 17 is compatible with the 18 as well, and vice versa.

Could you do a firestrike and timespy run? Curious to see how they perform vs the adlink ones.

This confirms my theory, I can put both RTX 3000 in my M18xR2 hehe

I am not very capable of overclocking, I do not know what the limit of each component is, I would like you to instruct me in what you can to see if I can reach stable 4.5 or 4.3 currently, this is my configuration.

Typically what I'll do is some experimentation by starting at the maximum speed I know the CPU is stable at, and then I'll run cinebench and keep increasing the frequency by 100 MHz steps until the system crashes. At whatever frequency the system crashes at, I set the CPU multiplier to match and also increase the voltage by 25mv. I'll then run cinebench again. If the system still crashes, I raise the voltage by additional 25mv steps until the system is stable.

I then repeat this process until I run out of thermal headroom. Typically the frequencies you can reach in games will be higher than what you can achieve in cinebench by another few hundred MHz since the load will not be as high.
