I'm not shure but one year ago works with Alienware, I tried on m17x r4, second m17x r4 120hz and my m18x r2

the same was with M3000M but probably problem was in HP vbios.

try SG mode and see if it is detected in the BIOS. if not, then maybe it’s worth trying to reflash the vbios or it’s broken.

I afraid that is broken. Is it possible to reflash vbios if card is not detected ??

I hope that RTX3000M will works it is GETEC card ( whatever it is ) 🙂

this is only possible with a programmer if it is not detected.

If you are going to use it to flash not only this 970M, but maybe also your future RTX 3000, then I advise you to take a 1.8 volt adapter, since video cards of the Pascal generation and newer use a 1.8 volt BIOS chip instead of 3.3.

This is it? if not, then I have no idea about this manufacturer at all, I personally dealt with RTX cards from HP, I saw cards from Aetina and Adlink, but not a word about Getec.

I think you'll have to flash both unless you buy it as a Dell/Alienware specific one.

I think it's from Aetina. This is a good video card, but I don't know which is better: HP or Aetina. probably from Aetina, since it does not require modifications, such as gluing a new mount to the motherboard in order to screw the HP video card more securely and modifying the video card heatsink. But if HP is cheaper and this matters to you, you can take it.

And you can also look for the RTX 4000 - because it sometimes costs a little more, but its performance is much better, the heating is not much more.

And if you had a 7970M, then you most likely have an AMD 100-watt radiator. I have the same one, it is suitable for Nvidia video cards and cools extremely well. but you should still look at this, if you have a 75 watt radiator, then this is a bit bad. For the RTX 4000 you will have to take a 100-watt one, but for the RTX 3000 a 75-watt one is enough, although I like to lower temperatures to the maximum and would take a 100-watt one.

My m18x r2 had GTX680m but I put it to m17x r4 with 120hz 3D display ( my son 680 was burned ). I took hd7970 from second son m17x r4 because was problem with driver Windows 11 and he works now with quadro k4100m

I currently use the HP one. Modifications are necessary. I got an extra heatsink to chop and hack. Also I added an extra bracket to hold the GPU in place. None of the screws align with the board. Also one of the two MXM latches, needs to be removed. So far it's working like a charm.

I tried some vBIOS I found online. I only manage to brick the GPU. So I use the original HP one (or at least, the one that came with).

PNY/Aetina variant, though it works with original heatsink without mods, screws in place as it should, it has two mosfets in an area thay the heatsing doesn't cover. I used an aluminium block and thermal pads to transfer heat to the heatsink and the northridge heatsink. But it's temps were higher.

When I have the time, I will make a post about the HP install.

I wait for Aetina GPU. I paid 360 USD and don't want to pay another 400 USD for second HP 🙂

In free time I build tube amplifiers, DACs and streamers and I think I can make some additional heatsink for this mosfet in my workshop.

I was lucky. I got the HP for 200 euros and manage to grab the PNY for 100 euros.

It is not hard, you can do this. I used only hand tools to fabricate a bridge to cover that area I needed.

My next project will be to install a 980m at the primary slot and the RTX to the secondary and try to boor in PEG mode.

So I will disable the igpu completely, and when I play a game, RTX will take the heavy lifting.

Please do provide us feedback and I would like to see your approach during your install

The m17x r4 120HZ 3D screen will run with P4000 GPU in pure EUFI  PEG only mode with .inf mod. The RTX 3000 GETEC runs in both m18x r2 and m17x r4 60hz screens in SG mode only. I have 2 RTX 3000 GETEC cards both run great. I had a HP RTX 4000 in the m18x r2 running great but was unable to screw them down and but the card is a little thicker and buldged up the keyboard slightly but not a problem. I cut a piece of rubber to fit at the end of the card to keep it from sliding out but also seemed unnecessary. It worked great till I flashed the vBios then it stopped in the m18x r2 but now works in HP ZBook 17 G6, so the card is good. There should be no need to flash the RTX 3000 GETEC

Hi.

Is still on the way. Should be this week.

Few days ago I pick up 3940XM and triple pipes CPU heatsink. I have liquid metal from ThermalGrizzly. I only wait for RTX3000 to put everything inside ( I don't want to disasembly m18x again and again and... )

Meanwhile my key "w" from m18x keyboard stop working. In Poland is houndred blue tape keyboard from m17x r1, r2, r3 and m18x r1 but zero with green tape keyboard from m17x r4 / m18x r2. Can anyone help ?

I'm getting this GPU for my alienware m18x r2: https://www.ebay.com/itm/166542231401

And I want to make sure I put the right size (thickness) thermal pads on it, using the factory 3 pipe 100W Alienware gpu cooler (mine came with the 680m SLI setup)

Any guidance on what thickness pads I should use (seems to use 2 differen thicknesses on the 680m).  I assume it makes sense to buy new ones and not reuse the 680m ones.

Please let me know!

Curious, when I take out my second 680m (SLI), do I leave the fan in, and just remove the card the and SLI cable.  Is there anything thats going to actually cause that 2nd GPU fan to kick on?

It should be driven by GPU temp but you can disconnect second fan plug for sure. If you don't have plastic adapter in place of GPU 2 better to leave fan to prevent leakage of air flow - but it is only my opinion 🙂

Yeah buy gpu2 will have NO temp, so you think BOTH fans will kick on if Primary GPU shows a rise in temperature?  Not just the ONE FAN that controls that Primary GPU ?

I'm trying to get the velociraptor, @ssj92 is working on it for me, so I can put it in spot 2, just didnt know if anything would even kick on fan 2 since no GPU in there, and therefore no GPU temp #2 sensor.  I'll leave it all in.  Would be nice if I could manually/automatically cause fan 2 to turn on when gpu fan 1 turns on.

Shoot, I just thought of something.  I dont have the 'unlock' bios installed yet.  Did I just shoot myself in the foot pulling out the 680SLI setup since my RTX 3000 is coming in.  While I wait, do I need to put the whole computer back together (I hope not, this doesnt sound fun) just to install the unlock bios so the RTX 3000 will work?  Or will it be fine, and go natively to the integrated graphics card?  Or will I get the dreaded BEEPs?
