Sandy Bridge
Every day or so, I'm getting noticed that I've increased my rank. Cool, so now I'm a Contributor. But what's it mean, and how do I find out why I'm increasing my rank? I can see that I have 148 "points" to my next rank, and I can see the ranking of ranks if I go to https://efgxt.net/profile/96-sandy-bridge/badges/, but it's still mysterious what they are exactly. cucubits
I think it's based on the number of posts you make. You get a different colored icon next to your avatar for each step... about as useful as achievements in a game but cool to see your progress 🙂
cucubits
Actually scratch that, looks like it's not based on post count... let's see what Reciever or Hiew will say. I'm curious too 🙂
Aroc
It seems like it is an attempt to gamify the act of forum participation -- to hijack the parts of our brains we already have in order to build a better online community -- all to reward forum participation: - starting a topic - reply or answer a topic - getting a conversation going - liking/repping a post - etc Those are my guesses. Take a look at Aaron's account as an example. Look at the reps/achievements/badges he has already earned for his participation: https://efgxt.net/profile/67-aaron44126/ Look at what he has already been able to contribute in a short time (under one week)!! 1 Laptop // APPLE Macbook Pro 16 | 9880H | 1920p | Radeon 5600M 8GB HBM2 | 32GB DDR4-2666 | 1TB SSD | macOS Catalina 10.15 SFF Desktop // ASUS ROG Strix B550i | AMD 5600X | RTX 3060 Ti | G.SKILL 16GB DDR4-3600 | WD_BLACK SN750 NVMe SSD 2TB (Linux) | WD_BLUE NVMe SSD 1TB (Windows) | MOTIF Monument | Fedora Linux 35 and Windows 10 20H2 Enterprise Couch gaming setup // SFF desktop + | Roccat Sova Gaming Lapboard mechanical (browns) + Razer DeathAdder USB mouse | Sony Bravia 40 1080p tv | speaker setup Display // Acer Predator X34 34" curved 21:9 1440p 180HzDisplay // Acer Predator XB273U GXbmiipruzx 27" 1440p 270Hz Museum: GIGABYTE X570+AMD3800X+RTX Titan Desktop, Alienware Area 51m R2, Eurocom Tornado F5, Alienware 18, Dell Precision M6800, Thinkpads T43 + T61p + X220
cucubits
Since almost 100% of us came here from NBR, I would've liked to keep some sort of status like we had there. Not necessarily the post count since it is a new forum but something like the rep we had there and/or the original join date, would've been cool to move here.
Aaron44126
You can click your name in the top right to see how close you are to the next rank. You get points for posting, and also if other people react to your posts ("like", etc.), and maybe other stuff too. It seems that you also get points for sending PMs? (That might be why I have more than some others with around the same post count. And I've started a few threads.) As you'd expect, the number of points you need to rank up increases with each rank. I found these other stats pages. 1. Go to your profile and click on "Recent badges" to get a page that shows all of the ranks and where you stand on the forum (percentage-wise). [Edit] - Reading more carefully, I see that you already found this. 2. https://efgxt.net/leaderboard/ I saw the leaderboard after it notified me that I "won" a couple of days. Not really trying to. 😛 Looks like a three way tie yesterday and it probably gave me the reward because my name dominates alphabetical order. I also feel that ranking up is a bit too easy. I have less than 30 posts and I am on rank 6 out of 14 somehow. I don't know what the later levels are like though. Hopefully we don't have everyone sitting at the top rank after 2-3 months. Also, going by these "stats" I am one of the top members here now, but I was never among the top at NBR and I expect that I won't be top for very long if some of the other NBR members get over here and start being similarly engaged. 1 Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) • Dell Precision 7560 (work) • Full specs in spoiler block below Info posts (Windows) — Turbo boost toggle • The problem with Windows 11 • About Windows 10/11 LTSC Spoiler Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) M2 Max 4 efficiency cores 8 performance cores 38-core Apple GPU 96GB LPDDR5-6400 8TB SSD macOS 15 "Sequoia" 16.2" 3456×2234 120 Hz mini-LED ProMotion display Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3 99.6Wh battery 1080p webcam Fingerprint reader Also — iPhone 12 Pro 512GB, Apple Watch Series 8 Dell Precision 7560 (work) Intel Xeon W-11955M ("Tiger Lake") 8×2.6 GHz base, 5.0 GHz turbo, hyperthreading ("Willow Cove") 64GB DDR4-3200 ECC NVIDIA RTX A2000 4GB Storage: 512GB system drive (Micron 2300) 4TB additional storage (Sabrent Rocket Q4) Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 15.6" 3940×2160 IPS display Intel Wi-Fi AX210 (Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3) 95Wh battery 720p IR webcam Fingerprint reader Previous Dell Precision 7770, 7530, 7510, M4800, M6700 Dell Latitude E6520 Dell Inspiron 1720, 5150 Dell Latitude CPi
Hiew
Alright, so there are a ton of different conditions (by default) to gain points and badges. I haven't touched anything as far as that goes yet but we can set certain conditions for badges (which can also get tied to points). There's also badges which can be "awarded" for whatever you'd like. Example: Automatic badge example: Most of this functionality has been left default (since the main goal was to get the main functionality of the forum up and running)
