Wouldn't be surprised to also see an MSI GT88, a Dell 7880 or a Zbook 18.

BGA means skinny little runaround and that means NOT upgradable, they are missing the mark again! 1 Alienware M18x R2 i7-3920xm-16GB DDR3-Quadro P4000 Alienware M17x R4 i7-3940XM 16GB DDR3-1866 Quadro P4000 Precision m6700 i7-3840QM - 16.0GB DDR3 - GTX 970M Alienware M17x R4 i7-3940XM 32GB DDR3-1600 GTX 680M 120hz 3D Precision m4700 i7-3610QM-8.00GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz-K2000M GOBOXX SLM G2721-i7-10875H RTX 3000-32GB ddr4(Gave to my Wife)

Upgradability has mostly become a tease - just look at the last Clevo notebooks with sockets - no upgrades possible for the last 17.3" and the two last 15.6" laptops. I still welcome the serviceability with potentially cheaper repairs and the chance to go for the highest possible CPU with a lesser GPU but there isn't something like a real upgradability any more. As for being skinny I think this is a given and I resent it almost as much as the BGA build. 1

And yes, I think we all have to give up on the upgradeable laptop era, it ain't coming back. ssj92
I think I will get this day 1. upgradable laptops are pretty much dead, not even Clevo has MXM anymore most likely next year. I really hope this has a 4k display option (mini led or oled) and I hope they include a subwoofer because their 17” model audio is lacking without one. Hope we get some more details soon. Indeed truly intergenerational upgrades seem to be a thing of the past as even in cases where the hardware would easily support it for CPUs neither Clevo nor Dell have come through for us. Not sure about the panel as so far only a 2560 x 1600 panel has popped up (and that would be my preference) but I would expect that we will see both that resolution and a 3840 x 2400 option. Maybe not right from the start but if 18" catches on.

serpro69
Oh, this could potentially be interesting. Assuming that Dell's Precision 7x80 will most likely be the same disappointment as this year's models, I'm thinking this might be a good "sturdy and powerful workhorse" alternative Serenity -> Dell Precision 7560Millenium Falcon -> Dell Precision 5530Axiom -> Lenovo ThinkPad P52 (work)Moldy Crow -> Dell XPS 15 9550 Spoiler Millenium Falcon: Dell Precision 5530 i9-8950HK CPU 2x16 GB DDR4 2,666 MHz 1 TB SSD NVIDIA Quadro P2000 UHD 3840 x 2160 Ubuntu 20.04 / Windows 10 LTSCAxiom: Lenovo ThinkPad P52 i7-8850H 2x32 GB DDR4 1 TB SSD NVIDIA Quadro P2000 UHD 3840x2160 Windows 10 Pro
Rengsey R. H. Jr.
I am definitely picking up this model myself. Even though it is not upgradeable , there is always EGPU to go along with the new beast. I am still happy with my current Area 51M R2.
TruenoG7
if it's a VGA laptop I won't buy shit, and I'll retire from the world of laptops for good.
Maxware79
There is zero chance it will be anything but a pure BGA laptop. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see Dell flipping the script at this stage.
