If you've admined a site before, you wouldn't say that. If you've admined a site before, you wouldn't say that (plugins don't spoil with age) I'd be careful how you post or you may be considered the first troll on this site, lol.

Because no forum has this stock, it just depends on which platform has a plug-in. Amazingly ipb has one so that request must be pretty popular and is probably available on the other platforms as well. Choosing a board platform is almost transparent to the user as you can make any forum behave like another, but it is critical for the admin of a site that needs to think of the long term development and longevity of the site. There is never a single 'right' answer for a forum choice, just what is right for the site owner. It's like saying that a single type of car is the only 'right' one.

Curious--what can the Asustor do that the other two can't?

Oh, I forgot I remembered the day the shuttle challenger exploded. I was home because I was sick and I was playing with my hot wheels crash ups and had just hit two together and then saw an explosion on the tv. I was alone in my room and was confused for a long time because it didn't match the reality of other shuttle launches. The next day in school the jokes started: "What color were Christa McAuliffe's eyes? Blew--one blew this way and one blew that way" "What does NASA stand for? Need Another Seven Astronauts" 3rd graders were really mean! And I remember that no calculators were allowed until trigonometry and were only allowed on homework, not tests. Yep, there was a lot of stuff about 'strangers' still being taught.

Using Xenforo as the platform probably has less to do with that than the site being sold. Ime, once a site is sold from the original creators, it loses something significant--two sales is nearly impossible for a community to take if the community is told to 'deal with it', twice. Yep--don't use them myself so didn't realize they were so bad. Dark themes are usually part of a default theme pack so shouldn't be too hard to implement when the time comes.

I was on a road trip with a friend and we were in Austin, TX as someone's house we were at when 9-11 happened. I actually had to fly from LA back home after that trip was done and we had to line up outside the airport to go through security. Very weird times. I remember where I was the day Michael Jackson died. I was at a vinyl wrapping company working out a deal for a Transformers 2 promo I was working on. It's interesting how events in history affect our own personal history.
-
Tell us how you really feel, lol. I've noticed a lot of site do have a 'dark' theme, but I've also read that chrome/ff/something has a 'dark' mode that does a pretty good job as well.

Usually, the post editors are limited to whatever comes stock on the forum platform, so if you haven't seen such features implemented on another ipb forum somewhere, it's probably not easy to do or even possible.

Remember, if you feel old someone else still remembers years far before you were born. 🙂 Now, when you can't find anyone that can, then you are old, lol.

Great to hear something like this. The original epic was hard to top on the screen (I never read the book), so it will be good to see some justice to the book on the screen that's just as enjoyable.

Once you're running pfsense at your apartment, I'd set up a vpn tunnel between your family home and your apartment--it's really cool to have a wan.

Get the Turbo Cabriolet--you won't regret it. :D I had the pleasure to rent the 997 Turbo right after it came out. That was a seriously fun weekend and such a capable car--I could easily do 85 in a 25 without knowing it!

Bummer--this is when you contact the admin as they can put in your new email and then send you an activation email. I had to do this for a few of my users when they wanted to change the email associated with their user name.

Win LTSB/LTSC is the answer to those of us that loved Windows SteadyState or Embedded. A lot of the same stuff like the write filter so you've basically got a decently bulletproof windows to use when that's active. I know it was even virus proof in the xp and win 7 days, but not so sure about 10--I haven't been running it long enough to determine.

I have 4 physical locations and 5 isps so I'll just do a summary. ISP: 800/15,400/400,100/10 and 500/50 and 100/10 both at a single location. Probably going to add a 1G/1G connection to the 800/15 site. Modem: Arris sb6190 x2, isp modems at x2, direct ethernet at another so no modem. Router: various enterprise models capable of IPsec vpn tunnels Switch: various unmanaged switches and enterprise 'core' switches, largest is an Arista 96-port. Wireless access point: Not many of these at all--only 2 sites even have them atm as everything else is wired. Network cards: Mainly 1GB, branded and real Intels or whatever is on the motherboard Okay so this a lot of network, but it's for business too. All 4 sites are connected via the IPsec vpn tunnels so they pretty much function like a WAN and anything on any site is accessible from anything on another site (simplification). Probably over 200 devices in total across all the sites. So what is all this used for? Basically to get business data into digital that I can then work on from any of the sites. Else I would be stuck at just one and be away from the wife that works closer to two other sites.

Powerline adapters can be a great way to get 100Mbs+ to almost any location. They're also easy to test out and know if they're going to work--5 minutes and you'll know. If not, back to the store. This is a quick and painless Best Buy run. :) Interesting. I believe I have these breakers at one of my sites, but it seems a particular UPS will trip mine, not the powerline adapters as it only started after I added the UPS and it doesn't happen often at all. Older ones were more susceptible to issues between panels, but between breakers was hardly an issue. And today's top-tier speed powerlines run on almost anything pretty well. Powerlines will never be for speed more that it's like a wired connect since it has reduced latency. But this being said, evaluating powerlines is quick and easy, so they can be the quickest install ever, almost as fast as literally taking a long cable and plugging the two locations together. Moca is pretty awesome--full ethernet speeds up to 2.5Gb on certain adapters. Just as painless to install as long as you don't have any issues with the wiring. For a point-to-point connect, I typically just unplug the two coax cables at the demarc and put a barrel connector between them so then it's just like one long cable. Moca syncs as fast as powerlines so you'll know in 5 minutes if you did it right or need more work. I've found moca adapters around the same prices as top end powerlines, so just keep looking. If you only have a single point to point run, you don't have to worry about the splitter, but if you're doing more, you'll need to make sure the splitter is correct as the moca will need it to hit all the moca adapters. My networks are pretty extensive so I'll post them separately.

Sorry about that! Not used to using them since they suck on every other forum I've been on. The feature on here is quite nice and I have to remember that.

So I'm on a lot of communities so long that I'm considered an 'Old G' aka 'Old Gangster' aka 'Original Gangster'. Since there's so many people coming here from the legacy site, it's time for you to post your Old G status! It's simple, post your legacy NBR user name and join date/year if you have it. Or some rough idea of when you registered your username. Me first, but I was pretty new so not so much an 'Old G': SamirD 2018 (I think) Your turn!

Nice! I hate those too as I have a multi-wan router so multiple requests from multiple isps always triggers those things and sometimes sites won't even let me pass them. 😞 I never used it, but ran into remnants from it when people quoted it in posts in the archive. Might be useful. Mod edit: please take advantage if the multi-quote functions 🙂

Unreal photography in this thread. It's one thing to see these type of images on documentaries and online, but it's a whole different level to know the person that took these and how they did it and their own personal reaction. Fantastic stuff!

Don't Look Up. Hilariously close to reality. There's even a phone number that comes on screen as part of a 'commercial' and at 2am I thought, 'why not' and dialed it and it's an extension of the movie! It goes on for over 10 minutes before having a realistic 'accidental' disconnect while on hold that we're all familiar with--probably the most impressive phone prank I've ever heard--254-63-COMET. To enjoy to the fullest, watch the movie, pause on the number when it comes up in the movie, dial the number and enjoy being a part of the movie, and then after it hangs up, continue to watch--super fun! Edit! And so, apparently the phone number in the version I just saw is new as there was a different one before that is now disconnected. Apparently this new one was just made a month ago (or released a month ago as the voice actors would have only posted after they were done working on it): https://www.linkedin.com/posts/melaniethomasacm_please-enjoy-these-commercial-parody-hotline-activity-6886444733565140992-1op7 Edit 2! OMG! I found another one! There's a scene where the phone number 904-ORLEANS is on a sign at a political rally. So if you call it, it's the 'President' telling you not to look up. hahaha! I wonder if this will become a trend in movies--phone number easter eggs like this... Edit 3! So the full message on that sign is 'TEXT DLU TO 904-ORLEANS', so I just did that and it replied 'Make the call. Listen carefully.' 😆 Edit 4 Apparently this movie is FULL of easter eggs. The QR code in the scenes right after the text message one takes you to a youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFeZ2EOc8KY

Neat to see another photography and cooking enthusiast here. :) I wouldn't have thought cooking to be something that the community was into--learn something new every day. :)

Yeah, large corps will usually do this when they care about competition for a site...or care about the site at all. TT didn't fall into either of those categories, lol.
