Thankyou guitarG for your work! It might help millions! Nature sustainability, we should repair old components, not dump them and buy new ones. That’s for someone who doesn't care about money or nature.
I also have an EliteBook 8570w which I am trying to mod to take the best profit of the hardware. I am now waiting for an i7-3940XM and 1866 MHz RAM, but I’ve got a GTX 980M running well, bottlenecked by the i7-3740CPU. It was here back then where I checked compatibility with this GPU, but I didn’t have time to read everything, now I've been trough all the posts...
It was just plug and play, had to grind the plastic of the CD/DVD plug on the MB, but I can still connect an extension cable to maybe connect some fans or even a disk with an adapter.
For cooling memories, I’m thinking of using two copper plates to cool the GPU memory (1.2 mm on top and 0.5 mm on the bottom). I’ll be relying on the original cooling for gpu processor. for the thicker plate that sits underneath, I might cut a section in the center and extend it upward (maybe make a cut in the upper plate to fit it through) so it rests between the GPU processor and the original cooler , to help the cooling system since i7 3940xm runs hot and GPU won't trotle down by memory temp.
for Daedalus, I would’ve triggered the refund for much less. It has to at least give some kind of signal or backlight or something to prove it’s connected, so you can debug the errors. I’d say the GPU is broken, because if it’s just a black screen, the laptop isn’t aware the GPU exists.my bios is non csm mode cause i had hard time learning instal linux, and in post, when cold start, 2 images are shown loading windows uper side of hp logo not sure why.
So, yesterday I’ve been through all the posts. I am also thinking about doing the Bluetooth mod looks easy and very helpful!
GuitarG, i don’t know about your problem, but just think positive and have your hands free and in contact with natural things. I’m sure nature can’t let you down
