This project is very interesting & I'm looking at possibly doing this to my Dell Precision 7720 as I've been dealing with the issues dell has created. Mine has a Xeon E3-1545M V6 processor with Iris Pro P580 integrated graphics & a Quadro P4000 GPU. I am happy with this laptop & impressed with its performance, but there are some problems. In comparison to the P4000 running at about 60C when playing games, I've put PTM7950 on the CPU & its wanting to get close to 80C and the highest I've seen it get to being 85C. So being able to undervolt & overclock the CPU sounds awesome with the addition of ram overclocking; however, looking into information for how to apply these software & firmware mods to mine is kind of convoluted in comparison to flashing a bios or updating a bios. So I wanted to ask something before I dive into the rabbit hole of improving my laptops performance.
Can you explain further or even make a full on guide or tutorial on how many others can not only do this mod on their Dell Precision 7720, but also on many other old Precision laptops. Even though I do have the tools to reflash the bios my laptop if I screw up the process (CH341A BIOS programmer), I'd rather save my laptop from dell's poor decision making then saving it from a bricked bios I created. I'd appreciate it tremendously as I love this laptop & I want it to run its best for as long as possible.
