Scary realistic AI. This might not end well for any of us. These digital creatures are nice to look at, but this type of realism offers endless opportunities for nefarious and deceptive scheme to play out.

very realistic. not sure if well get to the point of not beign able to tell apart whats ai and what is not.

I used to use Solidworks (3D CAD software). I like solidworks because its what I learnt on (my company at the time used it). You could borrow a copy and teach yourself with lots of youtube tutorials .

Or there are free CAD programs all very good if you don't want to borrow stuff.

I highly recommend learning this in your free time. You can design something and then use a 3d printer?!?!

I used to get a set of drawings and with solidworks a cnc plasma cutter, cnc waterjet, Pressbrake and a breakpress I could cut, fold, bend and weld anything you wanted in any metal except cast. Good old days.

dont know how to use paint,  come on...🤣

    (this laptop = Precision 3551)

    Toasty!

Order of screenshot below is current, min, max, and that current can be considered as idling, though today I'm in the other room and don't have the usual desk clip fan blowing across the keyboard which improves the idle temp by a good 5 degrees and can even get the SSD down near 50. The minimum temps are only seen very shortly after booting. The GPU reports 0 because its inactive, its real temp will be in the 60s too.

    image.png.33070343bb985aa25db9e7535fa14905.png

Its a cool day here today so room ambient is probably a good 2 or 3 degrees under 30c 🙂

A while back I had to disable the turbo boost because it caused horrendously annoying coil whine, and this vastly improved temperatures too.

With turbo active Dell lets the CPU go to 99, and it will do that anytime It has to do any kind of work and then idle in the 70s and 80s. With boost off it usually peaks in the 80s.

The previous Samsung SSD I had used to idle in the 70s. I switched to SK Hynix P31 Gold which has much better thermals, and it needs them because whoever designed this machine didn't think the SSD was worthy of any airflow.

     thanks.

thats what i have read that it gets a bit hot. have you used honeywell thermal paste.? on my m4600 it lowred by 4'C.

My new(ish) precisions suffered from lots of stutters and lags and sound glitches at regular intervals, and I found that hunting down and killing Dell stuff running in the background makes things a lot better.

I also had awful troubles for a long time where my Precision 3551 would completely lag keyboard input for a second or two every 30 seconds or so. It was driving me absolutely nuts. I eventually discovered that this was occurring only when the discrete GPU (Quadro P620) was active. For reasons long forgotten I had Chrome set to always use the nvidia instead of the build-in intel (and would usually have YouTube open in Chrome on the external monitor playing something or other). I switched it to force intel, and with nothing using the nvidia GPU it doesn't seem to do this any more.  That one I don't think showed up as interrupts though. Can't remember how I figured out what was causing it.

I do have interrupt problems with an ancient Latitude 6430, where plugging anything into one of its USB3 ports will cause interrupts to go to about 30% and then stay like that until the machine is restarted or hibernated (the solitary USB2 port is fine).

how are temps on this laptop.?

It is not as aesthetically amazing as the copper piped steampunk ITX build, but this 3D printed SFF modular server case is still pretty slick. The guy did a really nice job. If @Rage Set gets deeper into this kind of thing it will be awesome to see what kind of creations he comes up with.

its still amazing. i really admire all those guys that know CAD its amazing how they can create stuff. but with so many settings in CAD to make the drawing and create it.

Hey fellas, this is a less ideal post that will go down in my catalog, but i think it ought to be discussed. Some touchier topics will be discussed, so if you would rather not peer into my personal life, I completely get it.

I will edit this with a spoiler here at some point, but I cannot figure out how to add one on mobile. My appologies.

Last night, on Febuary 6th, 2025, I was leaving a laboratory at my university. There's a sketchy road I must always cross by foot to get to my apartment, and while I thought I could make it, the impatience of man taught me a valuable lesson at a terrible time; Man does NOT win against automobile. The speed limit was 35mph on that road, and the driver did not see me. Luckily, he had an old, intelligently engineered car (a late 90s - early 2000s Chevrolet Cavalier I believe), so I ended up rolling over and on top of the car. I was blessed with some wonderful bystanders, and with the remorse of the driver.

I was carried away on an ambulance and to a hospital that is essentially on the campus of my university. I remember it all clearly, and I've been given every drug known to man it seems. The medical staff here and every gear in this machine has done phenomenal work, and I appreciate every person who has helped me along the way. Luckily, my head and spine are fine, and the only thing that needs repairs is my right leg, where my tibia shattered into multiple pieces. I'm only 18, and I will have to live with a titanium rod in my right leg for the rest of my life...

I'm not inherently a funny individual as I tend to be serious and practical, but during this whole situation, I have tried my absolute hardest to keep my family and friends from stressing all too much. There were times last night and today where I had managed to knock all of the air out of someone's stomach, and successfully bringing light to such a dark situation.

It's a really strange time, and my outlook hasn't changed much. I must keep rolling with the punches and focus on the good instead of the bad. I type this from a hospital bed, expecting a somewhat speedy, but life changing recovery. I don't write this out for any of you to pity me. As a matter of fact, the best thing you all can do is read this as a lesson, and NOT worry about me. I know I'll be fine, so you all spend your energy doing what you guys do best, I hate to be an obstacle in everyone's seemingly jam-packed lives.

However, I want this to be a message to you all to keep pushing to be the best person you can. This might sound a bit grim and edgy, but that is not my intent. I also realize it may sound like I am struggling with life, but I want you all to know that, even in my worst times, I have never had a desire to give up. I'm still learning and growing, but right now, I am a man who fears death in its entirety, and want nothing to do with it.

As bad as things seem to get, there is always a future, and while it may be impossible to see the light at the end of the tunnel, light will always welcome you. It's up to you to have faith in the light, even though you may never see it.

Take care of yourselves fellas and keep working to do your magic! Without you all, my life would be so different that I couldn't even fathom explaining it. You guys have enlightened me to some of my greatest passions, and I cannot thank you all enough!

I'm usually one to stay anonymous, but I think now is an appropriate time to quit. I might still be naive, who knows, but you guys are either good people, or really good at convincing me the you're not ill-intented. I guess I'll never know!

I watched that video the other day and is was pretty incredible the amount of work that went into that. It's not really my kind of product but you can't help but recognize the effort and the focus on quality of the build. Impressive novelty build.

its crazy. so much work specially when he crafted the logo manually.

People that have never been here and believe what they see and hear on the "news" being critical of the United States. Equally annoying, those born here that do the same thing, don't know how good they have it, and foolish enough to believe the grass is greener. To them I say, "Go ahead... FAFO." 🤣

i love mexico but if i had to choose between mexico and US id  pick the US. hands down. i love both countries both had been my home. its so much better in the US and i was more happy there. so you are all blessed to be living on that country.

Yes, hard times does come in life. And one should and will feel it. For quite a long time.
But do not loose faith that one will\can cope with it, in one's own way, one's own time.

In a similar situation, talking to my doctor, telling I was feeling real bad, he answered: "Yes, I understand very well. But if you had said feeling good, I'd be seriously worried". My reaction to some of life's onslaught(s): accept the need to feel as bad as the situation dictates, while not doing anything that makes anything worse, slowly rebuilding when possible.

    thank you for your advice.
