OK, no posts regarding gross issues around working conditions at Musk’s X-companies I guess. Anyone remotely following the topic must be aware of the pattern anyway.

According to that article, it is allegations of a particular nature. Of which weren't originally framed in the original complaint for Musk under the SpaceX company in Reuters source material.

Had it been presented as potential fallout from Musks PR on X (employees being critical of the current persona via X to other executives), of which was the original claim in the source material, then it be on the line since it would be Musk, X and SpaceX employee as the third party.

If you wish to continue hashing this out, you are welcome to carry it on via PM, I am open to it. That being said I dont want this thread to go off rails which would leave me in the unfortunate position of locking the thread.

Oh nice! But send off? NEVER!! As mentioned way above and quoted below - there may be newer nvidia series MXM cards available in the future too!  I don't know what the "record" of oldest laptop chassis + newest generation GPU is, but it can be broken! Like a 2014 laptop with 2024 GPU. Who knows. I think with the increased prices, having tech last more generations will be more common, and it would just be cool to get more use out of systems that work fine, but just may not be chart toppers - which for most people would be good enough.

Im pretty sure that crown belongs to an Acer laptop iirc back in 2010 or so (cant remember the specific model)

I sent an inquiry to that shop to see if they have done any testing with the machines I have on hand. Whats also interesting is they have a PCIe to MXM adapter @Tenoroon

Or the older P750DM / P770DM ones that came with the 970m/980m already have the heatsink for that form factor MXM card.  It could bring some life into those old ones.  If it only worked!

My laptop is actually the P750ZM with a DM-G board its a frankenmod so P750FM fits lol

An RTX 3080 MXM would make for a good send off to the platform.

  4. I have a few systems I want to test it in as well. P751DM-G, P377SM-A and P157SM-A

No idea if it will post at all since Clevo tend to be more touchy on reading the sensors but that price is realistic enough.

The heatsink on my P750FM is already modded for center die MXM cards since the card I have installed is also center died (MSI GTX 1080). The believe the 1080 is dying since the system locks up now when ever a 3D load is applied.

elon musk is a great guy but with his comments about the jews its tainting my views of him. in the big scheme many people will love him many will hate. similar to bill gates, bill helped alot of people and was still taking blows from people. also I looked up twitter dabacle on google and the like the only place still talking about this is NBT. seems a bit obsessive, but an interesting read. do you guys see his collapse or continued rise?

The thread has evolved to more than just X since Musk is more or less at the center of a few different topics.

  6. The requirements kind of confuse me a bit as it seems (to me) that you want a KVM that also functions as a dock?

Wendell's products in that genre are all derived from Rextron which is a Taiwan based manufacturer. I have been testing a couple of their products for work purposes, while it appears they wont work for my scenario they are fairly well made.

I dont think I have seen a a KVM with an Ethernet port that functions as internet access. You will find some that have it included but usually for the purpose of serial command (remote control of the KVM)

thanks for the welcome, i am actually using GPD G1 for my egpu needs but this https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sgwzone-gaming-ai-box-egpu-dock/x/17429983#/ using mxm has captivated me

    Welcome to the Forums!

That eGPU is very interesting, a bit of a shame that they dont have a bare bones option for some of us here that tend to look at the RTX 3080 MXM or RTX 2080 Super. It looks like something that should be mod-capable to an extent without seeing the actual internals.

    Hello,

I would like to get unlocked bios for my alienware x51 r1 and I can see that they can be found here: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Alienware-X51-unlocked-BIOS

it seems they allow only activated by the system users to download, but for some reasons my account does not get activated, I was trying to reach for help with admins but did not get any response, can someone pls download this bios and share within this post?

Thank you! I will delete this post whenever I get the bios.

You will need permission from the creators to share the BIOS here. Please do not use this forum to circumvent rules of another community.

Thread Locked. If permission to share is granted I will happily unlock this thread.

I played with the Alienware OLED at a local Best Buy last weekend, and I'm slowly warming up to the idea of going that route. It wouldn't be with that model, rather the 27-inch Corsair that uses the same WOLED panel as the LG 27GR95QE because I need its KVM switch functionality. I would be keeping the LG 27GP950 in my upstairs office as it's primarily a productivity monitor that displays a lot of static content throughout its time in use. Plus an OLED would be too dim for the room. The Corsair would replace my current Gigabyte M28U, though I don't know if I'm ready to give up 4K resolution. I wish there were 4K/144 OLEDs in the 27-28-inch form factor.

Just recently picked up the LG C2 42" to replace my HDTV/monitor. Haven't done much with it but did a quick trial of monster hunter: world on it. Pretty happy with it so far. Probably use it for controller games and maybe ARPG stuff. Using 125% scaling for now in windows

One of my buddies has been hounding me now that I've built a new system. "I'll buy you a 256gb SSD if you install and learn Gentoo." I've been interested in learning, and it seems Gentoo, while extremely difficult, is a good starting point for learning how Linux, and operating systems in general work. I might be taking him up on the deal lol.

Tell him sorry bro, Manjaro is the only way to go. Install ESXi on one of your laptops and run w/e Linux flavor you want :P

Today I gave in to temptation and bought a LG C2 42" 4K120hz 4:4:4 HDR with Gsync/Freesync luckily the 3090 can output HDMI 2.1. Actually got around 90ish FPS in Monster Hunter: World so it should do fine for console emulation or gaming in bed via controller. OLED looks pretty good, i'll have to be a bit mindful of burn-in. Bought for 500 from an outlet store as an open box.

My last TV was a 40" 1080p pre-smart era I bought for 40 bucks in 2017 so it was a nice treat. To justify it i'll be doing a water fast starting after my supplements arrive tomorrow or the next day.

Gotta say though the RTX 3090 has been a stellar performer, kind of hard to believe it released back in 2020?

  11. Off Topic posts removed. Inquiries to specific tools has its own thread, as such discussion revolving that should carry on there. Link to that thread can be found below. As always if particular members take issue with Forum etiquette they can always reach out to me to discuss to which I will genuinely try to understand potentially novel perspectives.

Passive aggressively threatening to post elsewhere has not been, nor will it ever become a means to effect change.

Hope so. As for enhusiasts products....

The more you look at Nvidia's two latest gen Geforce flagship... The more you see that this cards is meant for something different than gaming. Features like the "fake" ECC memory feature is for AI and as workstation usage. Not for Gaming. And that's smart done of Nvidia... Bigger chance that the cards will be sold well above MSRP.

We have now desktop processors that's in short is Hybrid mobile laptop processors. Now we will see laptop memory sticks go into desktops.... That's a lot love for desktop PC's @Mr. Fox

More compact and powerful CAMM memory modules are coming to desktop PCs

    https://www.igorslab.de/kompaktere-und-leistungsstaerkere-camm-speichermodule-kommen-in-desktop-pcs/

DDR5 and LPDDR5/5X CAMM2s cater to distinct use cases. DDR5 CAMM2s are intended for performance notebooks and mainstream desktops, while LPDDR5/5X CAMM2s target a broader range of notebooks and certain server market segments.

The introduction of CAMM memory modules with DDR5 and future DRAM will represent a massive change in motherboard design. Current mainstream motherboards have 2 or 4 DIMM slots that can accommodate up to 256GB with the latest 64GB modules. To support CAMM, the entire PC motherboard ecosystem will need to be redesigned...

Btw. Hmmm, Is there mostly female gamers in the Asia region? Or have the Asia'n gamer boys the same taste? Hmmm

    YESTON-RTX-40-SUPER-2.jpg

YESTON introduces Sakura RTX 40 SUPER SUGAR cards with white PCBs...

If its a solid product I dont really care what it looks like nor does anyone I know either since I the amount of time I look at my PC is basically less than 10 minutes a week? I spent the last few days rebuilding my slapstick server "rack", thought its more like a server stack technically speaking.

Not so sure about that bro Reciever😀 Here is more. From the 4070 Super review below... Nvidia RTX 4070 Super AI Performance.

AI is and will be a big part of the HW we use in desktops. And will count more and more forwards. Everything in desktop HW will be AI powered. From Hw to software and OS. Even the desktop bios offer AI tuning for performance gains. Will you move all topics of desktop hardware over on the AI thread now?😬

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super review: Boosted clocks and core counts for the same $599 as the vanilla 4070 tomshardware.com

Nvidia should have given the 4070 Super higher TGP and better cooling....

Its 220W TGP may be higher than before, but it's way off the 285W TGP of the RTX 4070 Ti and its new Super replacement, and that's one of the big reasons why the RTX 4070 Super is unable to hit the same frequency heights as its older sibling. But I expect Nvidia cater to the SFX builds with castrated TGP that can match worse and slimmer coolers.

If this refreshed card was offered for $549 MSRP it would be a very decent buy for the gamers.

The Asus 4070 Super Strix OC cost $1,001 USD here home. Yup that's +$1000 for xx70 graphics cards with 12GB vram. Super refresh or not doesn't really matter. It should have replaced the 4070 anyway but Nvidia prefered to continue with the card to try steal some gamers from AMD.

Thats appropriate, the banter of China / US tariff's / ban revolving around AI is not.

You need a higher-end laptop with TB3/4 for that. USB-C won’t cut it. There are also card size and PSU limitations, 3 slot max on the largest units, 2x8 pin in the Razer (the PSU can be upgraded at an extra cost though).

Correct, not sure if the model ryan has is TB4 capable. I know the 3070 version of same chassis does have TB4. Shouldnt be difficult to verify but my googelfu is failing me this morning.

    its a tough call!

Geforce Now is far from perfect, you will get artifacts and blurry blotches when using wifi sometimes, depends on the connection. ethernet I have yet to see it falter it looks native. I was going to spend some of the money on a desktop but now its looking like a better buy for geforce now with my laptops and my main rig. I still might buy a desktop just not sure if I should go all out. Anything on the next xx90?

@Reciever These gentlemen are more niche, they want the best and although bro has recommended getting a A770 build and the other mentions of just building slowly its beyond me, I might just have to jump in. im thinking one foot at a time is a good idea(slowly). I will likely do more window shopping

You could also consider eGPU since what you are aiming for is going to be largely GPU bound. Then later build a desktop around it when the laptop no longer suits the need. I would see what the performance is like over TB3/4 first.

No idea on next gen, my 3090 still takes care of my gaming needs to quite a large extent.

There is also no shame in not getting anything at all, you arent using this system to make money so its essentially entertainment only.

geforce now does 120fps. the 4080 is enough for medium 4k/120 and medium isnt like it was in 2000-2010. its all console level. I just got a lump sum of money, and I don't know yet. I need a use, for a desktop im not a video editor and don't think spending 4000 on a desktop for 10 extra frames is worth it.. sigh.

If you are keen on Geforce now then there isnt a need for a desktop

It's darn impressive to see AMD releasing "new" CPUs for AM4 even this many years after Ryzen first went mainstream. Platform longevity is not a major consideration as much as wanting whatever I get to be as current as possible at the time of purchase. That's why I think it would be more prudent to use an AM4 X3D processor as a bridge until Zen 5 and 15th-gen are released.

It was actually my original plan when I first bought in with the 2700x/x570 board. Hold the board until what ever chip was the last for the platform and just sit on it for a few years. That was in 2019 and I only recently got the 5800X3D when it dropped to 275. It keeps my 3090 fed pretty darn well so far. Probably only Sons of the Forest is where I notice CPU/GPU not being fully taxed, likely others as well but that was the worst offender thus far.

  18. If I recall correctly 980M's did have a habit of dying out after a certain period of time.

Based on those pictures the card looks to be ok, sometimes you can get the obvious signs of something blowing out with discoloration of the solder points.

@Maxware79 has had much more experience than I working with Alienware systems, might be able to give a more informed opinion.

might also want to not rule out a dying AC adapter. If the system is unable to boot in PEG mode (or dGPU mode) then you might want to try and see if you can boot the system with SG mode. If you decide to try this yourself there shouldnt be any harm but what ever you do, do not boot IGFX especially if you have the 120hz panel.

If it works then you might be able to get some diagnostic information like for example if the driver installs, what kind of sensor read outs you have (hwinfo64 or something similar)

The 980m looks to be around 200 USD or 175 for the M5000M (quadro version of the 980m) There is also the MSI 1070 which goes for similar pricing right now so it may be worth considering your options pending how much the repair tech might want to charge you for the effort.
