The FB Marketplace is becoming a nonstarter. Lots of lowball offers or if I do get an acceptable offer, the person is more than 50 miles away. I don't want to ship anything to people I don't know and have them claim it wasn't delivered, otherwise i would have bit the bullet and sold on eBay. I've tried LetGo, Craigslist, and others. Either scammers that can't read or still think I'm going to fall for their scam anyway, lol.

These components/rigs are going to fund my W790 escapade. Crossing my fingers!

I only ship when they use zelle or paypal gift.

That's what I was thinking it was. I wouldn't mind donating to the cause! I'd love to have more storage.

As for getting rid of my previously uploaded images, what's the best way to go about deleting them? Is there some kind of list that shows all of the images I have uploaded that I can pick and choose which ones to delete?

Disregard this, I just figured it out.

I just touched base with Hiew, we both want to make some progress on the Forum, just been slammed with work. normally Winter is our slow period but due to shifting circumstances and the world economy nearly ending things werent quite regular this year.

All jokes aside, the cooling on the GT77 is alright, but it saddens me that MSI has all of the resources to build a complex, high dollar computer, but cheaps out on some of the most cheap solutions that will add to the longevity and performance of the computer. I mean come on, its probably just a few more cents and slight adjustment of the GPU side of the heatsink to add more mounting pressure where it matters most.

As for the PCH, even the cheapest desktop MOBOs have cooling for the PCH, this just kills me! (and probably the laptop 5 years in the future LOL!)

Also, @RecieverI have noticed my max image size upload limit is at 62.61kb. Is there some stuff going on with the server you are using to host or did something go wrong. If I'm honest it's a bit annoying, if it can be fixed I would appreciate it and if not, I can live with it.

You have reached your limit of hosted storage 😞 Save the pictures that are valuable and/or clear some of the fudd to make space. Storage the one aspect we are sadly a bit anemic on. I've been too much of a hermit, really need to get back on the forum grind.

Good post, thanks for sharing @Reciever. Just to add another .02: the problem with politics is that on the one hand it is extremely divisive, so a lazy but safe policy is to just ban anything to do with it. The issue with that that policy is that politics is also (sometimes deeply) embedded in a wide range of topics, including technical ones; therefore an outright ban is seriously constraining the debate. I think the answer is something we have been practicing here already: the right culture of conversation. Let people make their points, hopefully in a manner that's not too outrageous, then counter politely if it feels like there is a locally novel relevant contribution to be made. That's it - there is no point going back and forth. Most people are not easily amenable to a change of political views; if it does happen, it tends to be a slow process that is not helped by fighting and arguing the toss at every opportunity.  A degree of respect for cultural differences is helpful as well, and this includes some tolerance for the language people use due to their background etc., although I would agree on the profanity point. Yes, it has some light and humorous uses, but that can be very background-dependent and can easily be used offensively or perceived as such.

Perhaps I'll have to look at this over time on a case by case basis when governments and technology rub shoulders for what ever reason. That being said the conversation will need to focus on the issue and potential solutions versus party A vs B in relation to who ever likes which party more at a given time.

There is a clear distinction between Hilary and the orange fleshbag.  One..HIllary had more votes then the Don...two, the election process in the states is flawed with the electoral college.  The Jeanius...never received the majority vote in the two elections he ran in.  So clearly,  looking at ACTUAL facts...not righty lunatic ALTERNATIVE facts...Hillary would be correct, where as the orange blowhard would be factually wrong.  Thats not why I think religious righty nutbars are out to lunch...it's because they deem themselves as rulers of others bodies and decisions using the "bible" as fodder.

ANYHOO...I will digress now and this will be my last comment regarding the lunacy of religion and righty politics.

This is proving my point in totality. Tribalistic defense with zero introspection while ignoring points to which you dont wish to defend. This is not productive, unless of course that is the point?

The US is not a direct democracy, never has been. Its a constitutional republic, always has been. The only time people complain about the Electoral College is when they dont get the votes, just like the only time people complain about voter reform is when things dont appear to be leaning towards their preferred team. Both teams distort reality to suit their truths. The only difference is the flavor.

A rigid ban on politics was one of the weaknesses of NBR. Here I would hope we can maintain the flexibility to touch upon more sensitive topics.

The trick in my view is to keep the comments more on the nuanced side, self-moderate them if you will. The key test would be: am I offending people, rather than making interesting points that might even get someone on the other side of the fence thinking.

Im not fond of the idea of a rigid ban on that subject, the issue stems that if its not a rigid ban, then its the opening of the flood gates. This isnt to mean you in particular, but the community as a whole. Which would cause myself and the other moderators (all of which volunteer their spare time) exponentially more work. The mods from NBR have had a mixed reaction as any group would (for how long that forum was running) and I do not wish for moderators to be viewed as adversarial to the members. Why? Moderators at heart, are members too who enjoy spending some time here as a member while also taking care of reports. I would prefer for moderators to be viewed as members who also help in capacities that a normal member doesnt. There were quite a few times where it seemed moderators on NBR were deliberately leading me into infractions as well as subtle to remind me their status. I disapprove of this scenario repeating, explicitly.

While I dont always agree, I do enjoy your perspective and as a result believe that I can engage in conversation on topics that we may not see eye to eye on, but the journey there wouldnt leave us with scarred and tending to our wounds. I can also do that with members like @Mr. Foxas I have found he is the type to at the very least engage in conversation as long as his principles are respected. There has been a time or two where I had asked for some topics to be dropped and while he was not happy about it, he did respect my request. There were also times where we simply and vehemently disagreed. Not all conversations will reach a happy ending but none the less perspectives were exchanged.

Leave politics out of the site would be best! However, until that is a law, I will politely respond to said nuttery with actual facts etc.

    This is a problem.

I've been spending some time on how to address this. please do not mistake this as solely a you problem, but a problem with how the subject is engaged in general. For example, I could easily counter this with the fact that Hillary Clinton has claimed that the election was stolen from her for at this point 6 years now. If there were dissenting voices they have long been drowned out in the noise, save for a few who were also accused of being traitors to the US by essentially only on her account. I have yet to see anyone pour the same admonishment her direction as I do for Trump. This isnt about What about-ism, as that argument style annoys me to the high heavens and down into the 9 circles of hell.

Now if you identify yourself as a Democrat or a progressive you feel the need to defend yourself and often that means dig your heels in and die on the hill. (Not saying you are, but just by way of thought experiment)

This is not productive, it doesnt serve to move the conversation forward and it certainly serves to make sure you identify me as not a member of your group, i.e. ally. To which only continues make you seem irrational, which serves to make me think that of you, and irrational actors rarely make for constructive conversation, and thus the divide increases, perspectives narrow.

That, is what I work to fight against on this forum and in my personal, professional life. I work to bring out the best I can from those whom I associate with. I take pain staking measures to navigate the spaces between because I do wish for exposure to as many perspectives as I can, and in turn I share my genuine opinions as well as trade craft.

I personally believe that both sides of the isle need each other to truly be a benefit to the citizenry. The right traditionally reminds everyone what works and where the line is while the left generally pointed out the exceptions that the current paradigm suits ill. its up to both leanings to come together to work out how to make changes in the mechanisms that form our government to suit everyone that it can. These days I dont really see much of that on either side of the isle.

I have to agree. I think NBR had many weaknesses. Look at LTT forums and others. they swear and are allowed to talk about anything and they flourish. Free speech for the win. NBR had a fascist like mentality when it came to politics

I do not care in the slightest what LTT does with their forums. Swearing is lazy, just as I have opined previously, spend the time to articulate your message and the community will engage. I want this forum to flourish for all ages, if a child were to come to me asking for advise I would do so in a manner to which the success of said childs' goal is increased.

Imagine a young fellow making a thread in the WLSIB sub-forum, following all the rules of the forum in the process only to have half the membership respond with expletives. Now have that child show his or her parents the supporting arguments for and against a select list of options presented, exactly how much merit do you think is lost in the choice of language alone regardless of content therein? Perhaps now instead of getting the best possible performance for the dollar said child has to settle for what ever was at the WalMart local store?

I am a heavy proponent of the Professionalism Initiative that OCN once enforced (no idea if its still present), while its not something that I explicitly force our membership to adhere to, it is, generally speaking my starting point. It is the reason why I hedge nearly all statements I make, as I am confident in many things there is a vast chasm for which I am wholesomely in totality, ignorant.

I can say this much, Freedom of Speech is far from free.

i know. we are all mature adults im sure we can work out our political differences. maybe we can create a thread with thread rules versus forum rules just for politics....but surely decency and common sense will play a role

Unfortunately, you do not follow the rules that are on the books, adding a second set of rules for another topic or portion of the forum is not something I can see as viable at this point and time. Your critics of rules have been far from decent, often directed at anyone but myself where on most forums merely discussing ToS is against ToS.

The bottom line is this, and I do mean this in explicit terms, this forum will not serve as means for tribal arguments to take place. This is a place for people of various backgrounds to coalesce, share experiences, and enhance the communities ability to make the best of their purchases. Whether that means the highest benchmarks, checks the most boxes, a gateway drug for the uninitiated or simply those reaching out for help sourcing a part, a means for troubleshooting or just looking for a community that may suit them.

Thats all I got for now.

If I buy a gaming laptop, it is not replacing my desktop.

Raw graphical power wise the mobile 4090 is about 15% faster than a desktop 3090. And the mobile 4090 is only 10% slower than my overclocked desktop 3090. But, if you account for DLSS 3.0, or even heavily ray traces titles, I cannot keep up with a mobile 4090 at all. Even gimped on power, and throttling to the max it’s going to run circles around my desktop 3090KP HC. Plus, the mobile 4090 can be tuned to extract a little more performance as well.

If I bought another gaming laptop, this is just to provide flexibility to my life. Not win races, not run super cool, or compete with a desktop 4090 by any means. It would merely be a gaming laptop that is “Fast enough” and competitive with my gaming desktop.

The nice thing is, a BGA horse poop patty laptop is easily capable of true 4K60+ in gaming. (That is pretty amazing) this is a first in history. I know the 4090 laptop GPU is pretty much a disgrace. And it is not in anyway shape or form comparable to a real desktop 4090. However, since the desktop 4090 is such an overkill monster, just a fraction of its power in a laptop is good enough!

I think such a product would be hailed as exciting if its planted into a laptop that could truly push it. What i mean is we more or less have an understanding of how it performs in the desktop arena, so the challenge would be how close could you get it to desktop levels.

The issue then comes from its BGA only nature of the industry at the moment, and what to do when the laptop fails during an overclocking session. It feels like an inverted product. Its the high end SKU but also set up on a platform where you dont want to push anything at all.

Were they actually Corsair employees? Not defending what they did at all, but just curious if their behavior was a reflection of being an outsourced flunky that doesn't actually care about the brand or the customers. If they were actually Corsair staff, that makes it a less forgivable breach of character. Most of the people I have needed to interact with at ASUS were truly horrible, so I wouldn't have a surprised look on my face if they were Corsair staff. But, I would still hope not.

Good help is hard to find, especially when the functional role and compensation package fail to make the employee feel like a mission-critical resource.

Some of you may be aware of Shilka? or at least that was his handle back in the day. Heavy proponent of advising OCN on proper PSU purchases. People used to buy 1000w PSU's for quad core, single GPU systems which was just wasteful. He used to give advise like avoid PSU calculators, they are garbage, and that OEMs is more important than the brand that resells it, 80 Standard is a rubber stamp. Things that are common knowledge (I hope) now but back 10-15 years ago probably wasnt.

Corsair reps would often become unprofessional in that sub-forum. Especially when the Rm1000 released, to which it was blasted as a more expensive, and lesser quality to equal priced competitors despite being the "budget" option. Things like "look into the OEM" was treated as a kind of dog whistle for the Reps to criticize as idiotic. The whole thing just felt dishonest. EVGA was much better a product overall, though they arent without their lemons (like every company with some history)

Then you have the whole tramp stamp debacle, to which Yellow Beard (Corsair Rep) went on to the war path, it was not pretty. He is now banned or at least deactivated. Top it off with them advertising 16.7 million colors when someone checked the controller it was no where near possible to get that many colors. These days people dont expect it, Corsair started that shopping trend, at least for me.

Lastly, they asked OCN for product recommendations. I suggested with how widely well received (though ill advised) CLC CPU coolers had become that its likely there will come a need to supply a demand for 360mm. To which I was told that market doesnt exist and thus would be a waste of time and resources.

Yep, need more PCIe connectors. And the choice is between swap out what I have or mount in an second PSU.

A second PSU will give me loads of cables and power headroom over ecual powered PSU (with dual Nvidia connector) as I already have. And a smaller SFX psu should be a lot cheaper.

    Saw this... from Tomshardware

    Corsair SF750 Review

Will check the price. Not keen pay overprice. Edit. 195$ 😞

And the second choice from Tomshardware... Not so much cheapar (18$) Corsair SF600 Platinum

I dont purchase anything from Corsair anymore. Their mods on various forums burned me from the brand altogether.

I think the old card can drag up to 400W in bench. And I want headroom from the PSU. Hence 600w. I don't bother with efficency standard Gold, purple or yeallow but don't want a PSU that have to use +70% to power only the old GPU's.

Then you have the PSU form factor... SFX is in smaller design and intended often for weak and flimsy hardware. You need to go up on wattage. I would never trust 500w PSU in a small design delivering 400W stable. They are often made for weak HW that don't max out the PSU.

I already have the needed dual 16-pin cables from Be Quiet. And its +1500w Platinum and very good quality product. Have even more spare power than 1600W Evga.

Ah I misunderstood, I thought this would be internal as a supplement PSU, otherwise, why bother? Just get an appropriate PSU 🙂

14 minutes ago, Mr. Fox said:

Yes, everything EVGA makes is top notch. A 550W PSU is adequate for a lot of applications that do not involve overclocking and overvolting of components that are notorious for being power hungry running stock. For most typical uses you would not exhaust the 550W PSU capacity.

It was the daily driver system, so mostly just video games. I did bench the 5700xt on it just fine for about 350w through the 8-pin's. I misunderstood the intent here, though this would be internal in the case for the some reason.

Particularly from a broader point of reference yes, but people can't do that easily (e.g. change the scope of one's 'tribe' to 'humanity'), if at all. A grand global cause, ideally one that would not involve a threat of mass extinction, would help with that, but none is in sight at present unfortunately and things are regressing overall. I'm not sure Twitter is helping, at any rate - it seems to be doing less lately, which is probably for the best.

I guess it's a luxury of an introvert, I keep the hype at arms length which affords me a better chance at not getting swept into it.

A lot of social media as well as the content of reddit and various forums is tribal, for the very simple reason that most humans are are wired to be strongly tribal. Thankfully, there is also public space for well formulated and community-moderated statements of fact devoid of tribalism: Wikipedia.

While I'm not entirely sure what the exact  scope of the algo in question is, it does seem to be at the core of Twitter operations, so normally the complete implementation might contain non-trivial fine detail of competitive value. Perhaps another reason it might be open sourced (as hinted at by the tweet above), is to just reveal it because he plans to deprecate it, but also with this many leavers, any material IP is on the street already.

Im aware, however ideas and arguments based on tribalism are typically nonsense.

I dont really use Wikipedia often enough to declare it anything, its a good aggregate for references.

As for the open-source, its likely early days.

There may be are a number of different reasons for which a company would consider open-sourcing proprietary software, and they don't apply in all circumstances, e.g. iD Software open sourced Quake code mostly for educational purposes when it became completely obsolete. Sounds like this is more of a combination of a desire to engage community and make Twitter a "people's platform", a publicity stunt really, with a potential to engage some free external resources, given the systematic extermination of the internal talent pool...

The flip-side of course is that this algorithm can probably be considered Twitter's secret sauce, i.e. IP, therefore by open-sourcing it he is destroying some of that value, and informing potential competing platforms. That's of course assuming that what is released (if it is released), is the actual current algorithm. I know, I know - Elon promised, but on the other hand Elon is Elon :)

I doubt there is much value in the algorithm anymore, Twitter was just among the first to do it and enter the mainstream.

I would like to say it's entertaining to watch but it's just continue affirmation of what looks to be tribal nonsense, which is more concerning to me.
