Black Friday specials are kicking around and I got the 990's for $249 each so I upgraded. With the Western Digital, this sets me up at 14TB of storage. They are all single sided drives, I am hoping to see 8TB or 16TB versions at some point in the next 2 years.

14th Gen Desktop replacement Laptops?
Snowleopard replied to Snowleopard's topic in What Laptop Should I Buy?
They are also thermal throttled to be that thin and choke under heavy loads...... -
I currently have a 10th gen Desktop replacement laptop (Cleveo x170sm-g) and right now Clevo doesn't have any 13th or 14th gen laptops that take desktop processors. I saw some reviews of the MSI Titan (Current model) but am looking for something with an actual socketed desktop processor, 4 so dimm slots (256gb ram), a RTX4090 or ATI (AMD) equivalent GPU and minimum 4 nvme slots, 6 or 8 would be better and dual 300 watt power bricks or a single 780 w power brick like I have on my Clevo. More USB-C gen 3.2 2x2 ports or (USB 4) would be nice also. 4k , 5k or 8k screen.

Anyone trying out the 990 Pro 4TB drives in their X170's yet? 4TB just came available maybe 2 weeks ago, with 3 of them, that will set you up with 12TB + 2TB in the SATA slot.

I am looking for a new NAS, I was looking at QNAP and Synology NAS's, but Storage is changing and I am looking at devices that are straight up nvme drives and no mechanical hard drives. First I found this, but the price seems really high for a 2 drive solution: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Thunderbolt-DisplayPort-Downstream-M2E4BTB3/dp/B09YVLFWVJ/ref=pd_ybh_a_sccl_10/140-0010366-2360043?pd_rd_w=Vq1O8&content-id=amzn1.sym.67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_p=67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_r=J34WG1MY1K8PF0JR2MP9&pd_rd_wg=a8HXW&pd_rd_r=ad2c930b-1d57-40b4-bda6-5c90d1ed8bda&pd_rd_i=B09YVLFWVJ&psc=1 Then I found some videos about these things: https://www.amazon.com/Asustor-Flashstor-FS6706T-Computer-Attached/dp/B0BZCM22WD/ref=pd_ybh_a_sccl_2/140-0010366-2360043?pd_rd_w=Vq1O8&content-id=amzn1.sym.67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_p=67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_r=J34WG1MY1K8PF0JR2MP9&pd_rd_wg=a8HXW&pd_rd_r=ad2c930b-1d57-40b4-bda6-5c90d1ed8bda&pd_rd_i=B0CHMHHCC1&th=1 These offer 6 or 12 NVME slots depending on the model, but wow, the prices are crazy without any drives..... What are other solutions? Could I get a small case with an ITX motherboard, be able to support up to 64gb of DDR5 in 2 slots, have more PCIe lanes with an AMD processor and use some ICY Dock 3.5 inch bay adapters to stuff 4 or 6 NVME drives in each slot and run Ture NAS or something similar?

Does anyone use NTLite for cleaning out ISO's?
Snowleopard replied to Snowleopard's topic in Windows
So I figured out NTLite and it is amazing. Still learning more advanced stuff, but I was able to make a clean WIN1132H2 iso for installation. I didn't remove everything like a strict gaming build, but I was able to remove alot of the trash and bloatware apps installed with Windows right from the ISO. -
I switched to the Honeywell PTM7950 a few months ago and absolutely love it and its not a headache to use like liquid metal or paste. Expensive stuff though, I ordered it from the mod site where you get the real stuff, not the knock off stuff.

I don't think people can legally post those, you have to get the ISO from Microsoft and have a valid license key, but editing the ISO once you have it is fine from what I understand. -

I saw msmg toolkit and its not really available anymore which is why I moved to NTLite. -
I saw a number of videos about NTLite and it looks really self-explanatory, but I can't seem to get a working 23h2 iso from it to test in a VM before actually re-installing windows 11 on an actual computer.

They are already talking about Windows 12...... I don't want AI doing anything in my Operating System and I don't want telemetry either...... Windows will become the next Facebook, all it is is an advertising platform and if you pay for a license, you should be able to shut it off.

So what is the deal with 23H2 ? is it coming out today (11/26) or are they dropping more of nothing today?, I am still on 10 Pro, but was thinking about upgrading to 11 / 23H2. Maybe...
-
Is there any way to upgrade from 10 Pro to 10 Pro for workstations? Microsoft is only offering licenses for Windows 11 Pro / Pro for Workstations now.

🙂 Thanks lol. Which 500 pack? lol. There are 500 packs for tiny screws, screws for cars, deck screws, :-D. Honestly, do you have a link to the recommendation?
-
Does anyone know the size and thread of the screws that hold the bottom panel on the x170smg ? I know I can get them from the retailer, but I am not going to pay $20-$35 plus shipping for 8 screws when I can get a 50 pack on amazon for $5

Thanks for the reply, I guess I am still confused, If I want to upgrade from a Wi-Fi 6 (ax) network card to a Wi-Fi- 7 (be) card , that should be possible? I don't need CNVi if it is un-necessary.

I am seeing conflicting information about CNVio2 support. I am running a z490 with a 10900KF and want to replace the AX211 with an AX411 or faster Wi-Fi card. Is this supported? I have a Wi-Fi 6x router with 2GB fiber feeding it. Router will go Wi-Fi 7 when they are available. Are there other options for advanced Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi-7 ?
-
I am running on 2gb fiber to the house and want to upgrade the wireless card in my x170sm-g to 802.11be, but from what I am reading, 10th gen Intel processors are not compatible with 802.11be because of CNVio2? Can someone explain this and if the X170sm-g will be upgradable to Wi-Fi 7? I mean it already has a 2.5Ghz eithernet port, I can't see why Wi-Fi wou;dn't work.

After watching that video on the HP, now I am curious if double stacking NVM's I know it requires a motherboard change, but I am thinking about a 15th gen version of an X170sm-g with more pcie lanes and possibly room for 8 nvme drives instead of 4 by double stacking them. I guess cooling would come up again.

What are my options to upgrade from the RTX 2070, I know the talks have been around the RTX 3080, and there really is nothing around an RTX4080/ RTX 4090 or is there yet> and what about the latest AMD/ATI MXM cards?

Thank you, so that is what taobao is, never heard of it before, its all in Chinese and I don't see a place to translate it to english 😞 and you have to login to get to the product page.

Do you have a link to the custom fans, I might be interested in buying a set for my X170sm-g
