  1. I am looking for a new NAS, I was looking at QNAP and Synology NAS's, but Storage is changing and I am looking at devices that are straight up nvme drives and no mechanical hard drives. First I found this, but the price seems really high for a 2 drive solution: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Thunderbolt-DisplayPort-Downstream-M2E4BTB3/dp/B09YVLFWVJ/ref=pd_ybh_a_sccl_10/140-0010366-2360043?pd_rd_w=Vq1O8&content-id=amzn1.sym.67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_p=67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_r=J34WG1MY1K8PF0JR2MP9&pd_rd_wg=a8HXW&pd_rd_r=ad2c930b-1d57-40b4-bda6-5c90d1ed8bda&pd_rd_i=B09YVLFWVJ&psc=1 Then I found some videos about these things: https://www.amazon.com/Asustor-Flashstor-FS6706T-Computer-Attached/dp/B0BZCM22WD/ref=pd_ybh_a_sccl_2/140-0010366-2360043?pd_rd_w=Vq1O8&content-id=amzn1.sym.67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_p=67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_r=J34WG1MY1K8PF0JR2MP9&pd_rd_wg=a8HXW&pd_rd_r=ad2c930b-1d57-40b4-bda6-5c90d1ed8bda&pd_rd_i=B0CHMHHCC1&th=1 These offer 6 or 12 NVME slots depending on the model, but wow, the prices are crazy without any drives..... What are other solutions? Could I get a small case with an ITX motherboard, be able to support up to 64gb of DDR5 in 2 slots, have more PCIe lanes with an AMD processor and use some ICY Dock 3.5 inch bay adapters to stuff 4 or 6 NVME drives in each slot and run Ture NAS or something similar?
  2. So I figured out NTLite and it is amazing. Still learning more advanced stuff, but I was able to make a clean WIN1132H2 iso for installation. I didn't remove everything like a strict gaming build, but I was able to remove alot of the trash and bloatware apps installed with Windows right from the ISO.
  3. I switched to the Honeywell PTM7950 a few months ago and absolutely love it and its not a headache to use like liquid metal or paste. Expensive stuff though, I ordered it from the mod site where you get the real stuff, not the knock off stuff.
  4. I don't think people can legally post those, you have to get the ISO from Microsoft and have a valid license key, but editing the ISO once you have it is fine from what I understand.
  5. I saw msmg toolkit and its not really available anymore which is why I moved to NTLite.
  6. I saw a number of videos about NTLite and it looks really self-explanatory, but I can't seem to get a working 23h2 iso from it to test in a VM before actually re-installing windows 11 on an actual computer.
  7. They are already talking about Windows 12...... I don't want AI doing anything in my Operating System and I don't want telemetry either...... Windows will become the next Facebook, all it is is an advertising platform and if you pay for a license, you should be able to shut it off.
  8. So what is the deal with 23H2 ? is it coming out today (11/26) or are they dropping more of nothing today?, I am still on 10 Pro, but was thinking about upgrading to 11 / 23H2. Maybe...
  9. Is there any way to upgrade from 10 Pro to 10 Pro for workstations? Microsoft is only offering licenses for Windows 11 Pro / Pro for Workstations now.
  10. 🙂 Thanks lol. Which 500 pack? lol. There are 500 packs for tiny screws, screws for cars, deck screws, :-D. Honestly, do you have a link to the recommendation?
  11. Does anyone know the size and thread of the screws that hold the bottom panel on the x170smg ? I know I can get them from the retailer, but I am not going to pay $20-$35 plus shipping for 8 screws when I can get a 50 pack on amazon for $5
  12. I took that part number and it came up on Crucials english site....: https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr5/ct2k48g56c46s5 $321 per pair of modules..... I would think 64gb modules should not be that far off. Maybe when DDR6 comes out.... but then I would want 512gb of ram
  13. I am looking for the following so-dimm modules: 128GB (2 x 64GB) 262-Pin DDR5 SO-DIMM DDR5 5200 (256gb total system memory). DDR4 s0-dimms max out at 32gb per module.
  14. Thanks for the reply, I guess I am still confused, If I want to upgrade from a Wi-Fi 6 (ax) network card to a Wi-Fi- 7 (be) card , that should be possible? I don't need CNVi if it is un-necessary.
  15. I am seeing conflicting information about CNVio2 support. I am running a z490 with a 10900KF and want to replace the AX211 with an AX411 or faster Wi-Fi card. Is this supported? I have a Wi-Fi 6x router with 2GB fiber feeding it. Router will go Wi-Fi 7 when they are available. Are there other options for advanced Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi-7 ?
  16. I am running on 2gb fiber to the house and want to upgrade the wireless card in my x170sm-g to 802.11be, but from what I am reading, 10th gen Intel processors are not compatible with 802.11be because of CNVio2? Can someone explain this and if the X170sm-g will be upgradable to Wi-Fi 7? I mean it already has a 2.5Ghz eithernet port, I can't see why Wi-Fi wou;dn't work.
  17. After watching that video on the HP, now I am curious if double stacking NVM's I know it requires a motherboard change, but I am thinking about a 15th gen version of an X170sm-g with more pcie lanes and possibly room for 8 nvme drives instead of 4 by double stacking them. I guess cooling would come up again.
  18. What are my options to upgrade from the RTX 2070, I know the talks have been around the RTX 3080, and there really is nothing around an RTX4080/ RTX 4090 or is there yet> and what about the latest AMD/ATI MXM cards?
  19. Thank you, so that is what taobao is, never heard of it before, its all in Chinese and I don't see a place to translate it to english 😞 and you have to login to get to the product page.
  20. Do you have a link to the custom fans, I might be interested in buying a set for my X170sm-g
  21. The PTM 7950 SP arrived from Hong Kong...... each piece is in a foam book case that says glass protector.... Got it from Mod DYI which should be the official stuff...... 80mm x80mm.
  22. Thank you, that makes sense. I am curious about my fan issue now though. In the advanced bios settings are there settings to control when the fans come on and what the defaults are? I am getting temps down to 40 degrees Cel. with the fans at max speed in the control panel, but it seems like the fans are not throttling at lower temps and just allowing the heat to build up until I manually turn the fans on. Maybe it is a failure of the thermal paste from when I bought it.
  23. Is the PTM 7950 only good for CPU and GPU applications or can it be used on nvme's also? just wonder. or other components that use regular thermal pads that don't "liquify' under heat.
  24. The PTM 7950 is shipping from Hong Kong..... lol, No one in the united states carries it.
  25. I love my X170SM-G for the most part, but I am already thinking about my next laptop, it seems like this is the last of the great desktop replacement laptops? I am looking at the future and thinking: Motherboard: PCIE 5.x or 6.x Ram: DDR 5 / DDR 6 , 4 slots up to 512gb Nvme slots: 4 is nice, maybe 6 if at all possible Graphics....... Not sure what will be out at that point, but something in an upgradable card, like a new revision to MXM with 16 or 32gb memory for the GPU. Display: 4k 240 or 8k 240 / Samsung QD LED Gen 4 or 5 panel Thunderbolt 4 or 5 (chipset that has full compatibility) Wi-Fi 7 or Wi-Fi 8 The Wi-Fi nic with bluetooth needs to have an antenna on it for longer range blue tooth. 60-120 feet of range 10gig eithernet port Graphene cooling pads/ paste Graphene based battery technology Onboard IR/ RF for wireless mice SD Express and Micro SD Express card slots
