Let's see what you've got in your house. I've recently got more into networking when I was having issues with Asus mesh setup dropping devices once I got up to ~50 wireless devices in the household. After that I decided to go a different route (actually it was after I watched a Linus Tech video on his new house where he installed way too many Ruckus access points). My setup: ISP: Xfinity 1.2Gb/s down 40Mb/s up (wish it was faster, I only went with 1.2 down because of the "faster" upload) Modem: ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 (lets me do a LAGG to take advantage of >1Gb/s internet) Router: Lenovo ThinkCenter M900 with a i5-6500 and 16GB of ram running pfSense (strongly recommend pfSense) Switch: Brocade 6450 48-port POE switch (can be had for a reasonable price on ebay) Wireless access point: Ruckus Wireless R720 running Ruckus Unleashed - no contest, the quality of this access point is so much better than my Asus AX11000, no question about it. The only time this access point gets restarted is when I do a firmware update. Network cards: HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 561T in my desktop and "router," 649281-B21 HP Infiniband 40Gb/s in the server. Misc: Cat 7 network or SFP passive copper network cables between the modem, router, switch, desktop, and server. I only wish I could run network cable to every room in the house, but that would involve lots of drywalling. I do have another Ruckus R650 heading my way to take advantage of AX devices. Not sure if it will entirely replace my R720 or if I'll try out a mesh network with it.

What phone are you daily driving currently?
Custom90gt replied to Katja's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
Samsung S21 and then an iphone 10max (I think that's what it is anyway) provided by work. I like phones, but I like the camera on the phone more. The S21 has been working well enough for me, it's always fun to take pics of my daughter so I have plenty of stuff to embarrass her with later on in life. -
Hah and it's really been fun to setup. Coupled with my 10GB network to my desktop it's nice to keep ALL of my Steam games on the server and then it's a quick copy over to the desktop if I decide to play it. My next house I plan on running fiber to every room since wireless is lame (even with professional wireless stuff).

I've heard it's a bear to uninstall too, like may as well just reinstall windows because that's 10x easier. -

lol I was thinking @ CL32 not sure how I typed 20. I did setup a return for my G.Skills since I have to add additional voltage just to get them stable at stock XMP. I also ordered some OLOy Hynix 6200 @ CL32 so we will see how that goes. -

Where did you guys get your Corsair 6200mhz stuff? And do they have 6200 @ CL20? I'd love to pick up something besides this G.Skill kit but I'm not willing to shell out $600 for the 6400 stuff. -

Yeah, it reminds me of when DDR4 was first released. The difference between DDR3 and DDR4 wasn't huge at the time and it was hard to justify. I figure things will get better in the DDR5 world, but probably not with the sticks I have, lol. -
Figure reposting this one may be worth while. Dell's lack of undervolting on their recent XPS systems is super annoying but thankfully on their 10th Gen stuff there is a way around it. I've tested this on my 9500 and 9700 and it worked like a champ. It does NOT work on 11th gen CPUs, I've tried it on my 9310 2-in-1 but Intel has blocked it. This quick tutorial is something you use at your own risk. Neither myself or NBR is responsible if you mess something up, it doesn't work for you, or anything else happens. I cannot take full credit for this, I found this page which helped me tremendously. It has been suggested that these variables can change with different bioses, and that's possible. It's also possible that Dell with enable undervolting on their own, but not likely. Having said that these flags have been tested and are working on: Dell XPS 9700 Bioses: 1.04, 1.06, 1.32, 1.5.0, 1.6.3, 1.8.2, 1.9.2 Dell XPS 9500 Bioses: 1.4.0, 1.6.1, 1.7.1, 1.8.1, 1.9.1 I will update my Dell XPS 9500 to ensure support but sadly I no longer have a 9700 to test on. If you don't have one of the bioses above or you want to upgrade your bios and it hasn't been tested please view the guide found here. Click the spoiler below to learn how to enable undervolting on your XPS 9500/9700.

Yeah sadly there isn't much to gain from DDR4 to DDR5. I only went there because my previous gigabyte board sucked at overclocking my known good b-die memory and there weren't any good DDR4 options. Well that and I like the idea of trying new stuff. Sadly AIDA64 benchmarks don't really correspond to real world differences. -

@johnksss some good info on stability can be found here: https://www.overclock.net/threads/official-intel-ddr5-oc-and-24-7-daily-memory-stability-thread.1794772/ Lots of guys getting their 6400s up and running there. -

Ugh, why didn't I pick up a known Hynix kit, lol. I can't justify the 6400s though, although I would love to, same with the Maximus board. -
I believe he asked Godaddy for a refund...

I'm sure the build quality and package of the Gen 4 is much better than this 16P, but it's hard to justify the cost. After cashback, I paid <$1000 for this laptop with a 3 year warranty. Having said that, I do frequently check Lenovo's website to see if there is a deal on a Gen 4, also awaiting the release of the Z16...

TT did not issue a take down for Spartans site, simply put he did a ton of work to the site and when trying to resolve the email issue the support staff that was "helping" him deleted all the posts. Spartan got disheartened after spending all the time and effort and decided to nix the whole thing. I was thinking about purchasing the domain and offering it for use here (or as a redirect) but sadly it seems to already be purchased.

Hah, actually the P1/X1 Gen 4 are the only laptops that I realistically see trading this in for. But for the price I could get 2x of these.
-
@cucubits - any guestimates how much money you have into those setups? I would love to get into it, but until I'm done with residency it seems like a pipe dream.

Hah not that it matters now, but if you clicked on your reputation for the post (that someone left rep on) it would bring it up in a pop-out so you could read it.

I've thought about this but I don't know if I could name just one game even if I was forced to. One of my first favorite games was Super Mario 3 on the NES followed by Super Mario World on SNES! I recall playing Doom and Myst on my old 486DX2 with great fondness. Later it would be Command and Conquer, Warcraft, and Fallout 2... Then I got a N64 and my favorite games there were Super Mario 3D, GoldenEye, and Ocarina of Time. On the Xbox my favorites still are the Fable series. Other favorites have been the Red Dead series, GTA series, Breath of the Wild, Doom Eternal, Age of Empires, the Witcher series, Guild Wars 2, and the Batman Arkham series. Oh and I spent a large number of hours while I should have been studying in college playing Battlefield 2. So this one post single-handedly dates me, lol

@Talon, try increasing tREFI to 100k and see if that helps with your latency. @Papusan, what chips are on the "J" series? I was thinking about picking some up, but may go for the Corsair Domintors when they come back in stock since they are known hynix. -
Hah good stuff @mujtabaand @John Ratsey, it shows how much I've forgotten or not paid attention to. I do recall TG running NBR years ago, but don't quite recall any "transition" to TT. I do utilize Brian's website storagereview quite often though for the server, glad he's still doing something to help the techies out there. @Samir, I do really like the idea of an article about the history of NBR and such. I couldn't help, but the two old mods above could, and maybe Charles could chime in too, you never know...

I just wanted to say thanks again to all those involved in the archive operation at NBR, it seriously brought a tear to my eye to see such dedication even at the expense of your time and sleep. I really am awe struck by it, so truly thank you. I wish we could have given more notification about the forums, I think we were far too hopeful that TT would sell us the database/domain and we waited far too long for their response. For that I apologize, perhaps it was just the end of an era that I was just unwilling to face. Keep up the good work!- 150 replies
