What phone are you daily driving currently?
Custom90gt replied to Katja's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
I have no need for another tablet, plus we have a decent LG 4k panel in our bedroom. -
I think it's worth going for the 2060 over the 1660ti because of DLSS. That can be a huge increase in frames while maintaining image quality.

I picked up a Lenovo ThinkCenter M900 (SFF) to run pfSense on because I wanted to try it. So far it's been awesome. It's super flexible and has been totally stable for the past 4 months. Now if only I were smart enough to take advantage of it, lol.

No, I'm not sure why I would delete the content I've watched. It took me so many hours ripping blu-rays and such.

The thing we forget when it comes to the 980 desktop in a laptop vs a 3080 desktop in a laptop is that the 980 used ~180 watts max (average is less than that, and reference was 165W), that's the same amount that a 3060ti uses. It's a far cry from the 300+ watts that a 3080 uses. It's just not feasible.

I ended up ordering a S22 Ultra 512GB and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra 512GB with the keyboard cover for $1250 after tax/cash back. I figure I can sell the Tab for that much and basically get a S22 Ultra 512GB for free. -

Well initial messing around with the Oloy ram and I'm happy with it. Loaded XMP and then set it to 6400mhz and 1.4v and it's 20 hours AIDA64 stable. Now I just gotta mess around with tightening the timings to reduce the crazy latency. -

I'm seriously considering picking up a 12900k since both my 12700k CPUs have a SP value of 68 and 69. It's not doing my loop any justice. Then again since I've really lost the time/knowledge compared to my "golden years" I'm not going to do either justice, lol. -

I sent my G.Skill DDR5 back and received my Oloy 6200-32-38-38-76 @ 1.35v. So far it's up and running on XMP and 5 hours AIDA64 stable. Hopefully these won't suck like the G.Skills... *on edit* I initially paid $559 for these, but today they are $519 on NewEgg, they price matched it and gave me a refund. I was a little worried given their shady practices recently... Still can't believe in 2022 I'm paying $500 for memory, but all in the name of fun. -
How many spinning hard drives do you have in your desktop?
Custom90gt replied to Sandy Bridge's topic in Desktop Hardware
Ummm a few hundred. I don't know if I want to look at the exact number, lol. -
Bad to ask what?
-
Yes but my average 4k video is 35GB, I also have 800GB in pictures, and I keep a backup of all my family members computers + friends if they want it. Having said that, I'm only using 40TB of space. *on edit* I just checked and my games folder is approaching 8TB on its own...

Wow what a throw back with that, thanks @Aaron44126 I remember downloading the Lemmings 3D demo on AOL and it took 12+ hours to download 15MB, yes 15MB...

Super weird about the mouse cursor, no idea what that could be. Let me know how you like the M16, you're just hitting all the laptops I constantly look at, lol. It's one laptop I have added to my cart at best buy so many times but chickened out at the last moment.

@mujtaba, any thoughts about optane? I've thought about starting a SSD benchmark thread as I wouldn't want to muddy your thread here.

Always fun to dream, and I enjoyed the responses in the other thread on NBR. So what would you like to buy but probably won't (for whatever reason). I'll start, I'd love to pick up a 12900ks (when they come out), but my 12700k is doing "good enough."

I've heard that it's more reliable than a powerline adapter and has better speeds. The only bummer is they are more expensive than a powerline adapter and you have to buy a MoCA compatible splitter to ensure that you have the right frequencies available to the adapters. If my Ruckus wireless setup didn't help with my disconnects on my Fire TV's, I would be ordering those.

Bear in mind I haven't done much research into it, but have you considered Ethernet of coax? That is if you have coax in the house. It's about the only thing I've really thought seriously about doing... Example adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XYDG7WN/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_8?smid=A2ULKEZ56DP1E0&psc=1

Where are you seeing G.Skill 6400 for $460? I would jump on that in a heartbeat. -
Out of curiosity, how did you track this place down?
-
So the stock fans that come with the chassis are really loud. I created a 120mm fan wall for it using wood scraps (looks ghetto but it works) and that made it much better. Additionally the 1200w power supplies that came with the chassis were loud as well but the 920SQ ones are much better. The final thing to help with noise was to add the corsair fan controller to tune things to a reasonable level. Overall I'm super happy with the sound/temp balance in it, even the drives stay cool.

I really like the ZFS idea and I think the plex container will work with hardware acceleration now, but having said that I do steam stream to my TV and have steam/origin/others automatically update all of my game library (like 7TB worth), and I don't know of a way to do that with TrueNas. I am envious of your 10G wiring, lol.

Totally true, I would love nothing more than to have at least CAT7 in every room of the house, but the wife is not going to buy into that when it involves lots of dry wall, lol. Here's the current network setup:
