@Tenoroon Did you bake in the liquid metal?

I probably should have done this. I didn't use very much gasket sealant (four small blobs on the corners), so I can always re-delid if I notice temps rising significantly over time. If I ever re-delid, I'll make sure to use this guide. If only I had it last night lol. Thanks for sending it!

  2. I got the CPU back in, and wow. Temperatures are so much better. I can actually run this thing at 4.8ghz+ without having to worry about it nearing 95C. I'm still adjusting clocks and voltages as I type this, and I plan on trying to set the static voltage in the BIOS later today. I can run a static voltage with TS, but every time I set it that way in the BIOS, I've needed to remove the CMOS battery as that seemingly bricks the thing. I am a bit hopeful as the few times I've tried to set a static voltage in the BIOS, they were at higher than normal voltages with the cache voltages adjusted too. I'll try just doing the Core voltage and see if that works. Hopefully nothing goes wrong as I don't want to tear this thing apart again lol.

  3. I'm about to go to sleep, and decided it was a good time to the delid. Everything went okay I think besides the LM application... I still suck with that stuff. Hopefully I didn't break anything, but I did feel like I used a bit too much LM. I already have PTSD from it after seeing what happened to my 4930mx...

And finally, from my own eyes, I was finally able to see why you guys call that garbage under the stock IHS toothpaste. It really looks terrible!

(Sorry that some are sideways, phone formatting is a bit goofy.)

I wasn't expecting anything outside of gaming gains with the increased cache kinda like what happened with the 5800X3D.

Hopefully we see some meaningful gaming gains with the 7800X3D.

I had a couple of those and I never saw spots like that. I can't say whether they are harmless or not.

Is that for your 8700k or a 9900k?

It's for my 8700k. It runs well at 4.5ghz all core @ 1.050 volts and my goal is to get around 5.1~5.2 all core.

That's reassuring, hopefully I'm barking up the wrong tree with this Micron thing.

Yeah Micron isn't bad nowadays. They had the problems with the early Turing cards, but other than that no problems. Though, as everyone else has said, Hynix and Samsung are the preferable vendors for VRAM as their VRAM tends to clock higher (especially Samsung on newer cards.)

Before Micron, there was Elpida, and they were truly bad. I'm glad they got bought out by Micron and can't put their garbage on GPUs anymore but Fermi and Kepler will continue to be haunted by their mere presence lol. A lot of the jokes about Micron memory being bad are because early Micron chips were really just rebranded Elpida garbage...

  6. I've been playing Snowrunner with one of my close friends. We both bought the game a few weeks after it came out and quickly finished the first 3 campaign maps. (Michigan, Alaska, and Taymyr.) We played every now and then in bursts to complete the Phase 1 DLC (Kola Peninsula), but we stopped after that.

About a month ago, we found we had time to play, so, since then, we have completed Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the DLC (Yukon and Wisconsin). We are currently on the Phase 4 maps located in Amur, Russia. This place is notorious for being the hardest location in the game due to the poor infrastructure, deep snow and ice, and rocky roads. While this place is tough, the views are quite good. Here's me struggling to climb this snowy path:

    image.thumb.png.62c709cbd5bac32b5766890bc636d1c9.png

Hopefully my buddy and I can catch up to the DLC releases as after this map, we have Phases 5-9 to complete, and each Phase comes out every quarter of the year (4 Phases per year).

While I do love this game, the multiplayer is buggy, and has had bugs that haven't been fixed since launch. My buddy and I have had to edit the save file 3 times in order to complete missions that broke due to various bugs that still haven't been fixed for the 3 years this game has been out. Besides this gripe, the game is really fun and relaxing... until you tip over in a remote area, in which you will quickly lose your cool 🙂

  7. I've been reading this thread and am very interested in the AUO 1080p 300hz display. I have a TM with the latest Prema BIOS. Does anyone here know if it would happen to support the B173HAN05.1 display?

Also, @runix18 What fan do you use for your TM CPU heatsink? I've been wanting to get a 4th fan for the CPU but don't know the model I would need.

  8. Recently had my G14's screen broken by a kid at school. The kid ordered a new 120hz screen since it was about 3 times cheaper than the stock 60hz one I had. The new 120hz screen uses a 40pin eDP cable instead of a 30pin cable. I ordered a 40pin cable off of ebay and they shipped me the wrong one! It's not even a 40pin cable!

I asked for a return within about an hour of the item being delivered to my house, and the company said that I would not get my money back unless I had this dumb warranty void if removed sticker on the cable, but there was never a warranty sticker on the cable!

I really hope I can get my money back. I just need this damn laptop working and to be shipped the right cable. I'm just tired of ebay being completely dumb and always having to follow the rules and being screwed over in the end. I understand it can look like I could have swapped cables out, but I don't have any leverage since I can't prove I didn't do it. This is just dumb. If only that company would have shipped the right cable; I don't understand how they could have even messed this up this bad...

  9. Hopefully the last P870TM question I'll post here, but I've been trying to figure out if the vapor chamber chamber GPU heatsink or the T-shaped GPU heatsink is better. I want to push the 1080 in here, but I have the vapor chamber heatsink and I'm not sure which is better. I'm willing to buy the T-shaped heatsink if it is verifiably better, but I don't want to be dropping 70-80 bucks on it if it's worse or equal to the vapor chamber I have now.

I'm under the assumption that the vapor chamber is better because it's a vapor chamber and that  its mass is seemingly greater than the T-shaped one, but I may be entirely wrong.

Yes, I sent him a PM on the HWBOT forum on January 30th to ask a simple question about something I could not figure out relating to my HWBOT profile settings. I had a friend that said he could not "follow me" because the option is greyed out, but not greyed out for others. I thought maybe there was a setting I needed to toggle to enable it. I could not find such a setting and could not find anything in the FAQ/self-help, so I asked him.

Well, for two weeks now he has ignored my PM on that topic, yet he can find time to post smartass replies to people in the forum trying to have civil dialogue about something a thread was created to have dialogue about.

At first it was kind of exciting to think they were going back to socket mounting, and then when he showed it was still going to be BGA in the end (only a test platform) that just totally ruined it.

What is this guy's problem? @johnksssand @Papusanis it just me, or is he just a smartass with an attitude? I feel like trying to interact with some of these dullards is like casting pearls before swine.

I remember emailing Leeghoofd a while back asking if my Haswell turbo bin unlock runs were allowed. I just wanted a bit of verification on that as it was never mentioned in the rules. I know it might not have been the best way to contact him, but emailing him was easier than creating an account on those forums. I never received an email back which was a bit odd as I'd assume if he has his email linked as "Contact" on the "About us" page that he would at least acknowledge my email and get me an answer.

I still submitted those runs as the worst thing that could happen is that they get removed and I receive a warning, but the lack of response rubbed me the wrong way. I don't know if I'm being over the top about it, but it just feels weird that he is seemingly very strict when it comes to rule enforcement, and yet when I asked for some clarification on the rules, I never got a response.

An interesting story and a question for you all.

I had someone message me on FB Marketplace about a GPU I have for sale. I noticed the profile was completely sparse. Interesting. The person haggled per normal but we agreed on a price. He asked about meeting in a city between him and I (he supposedly lives in Mass.). I told him I normally deal in the surrounding cities because I only meet near Police stations and I notify the police dept of the city I am heading to ahead of time to let them know I am legally armed and I will be in their city (this protects me in several ways in this very leftist state). His messaging tone changed.

I told him I could meet him in a different city (ten minutes away from the city he suggested). He quickly changed his mind. He told me it was too far and he's now going to be pressed for time after work. Strange.

I do tell all of my potential in-person buyers that I am armed. I rather they know ahead of time before seeing me in person with my holstered weapon. Should I stop doing this? Telling buyers that I am armed? If you were going to meet with someone to buy something from them and they openly told you they were legally armed, would that cause you to cancel the transaction?

I could understand that some people may not like the idea of meeting up with some random person and being told that the person you will be exchanging goods with is armed, especially in a leftist state.

However, I think it's completely reasonable for you to be armed and let the buyer (or seller if you ever buy from marketplace) know that you are. It adds a layer of transparency and in my mind, would make the transaction and the general meetup/sale more safe. If I were you, I would continue doing this unless you see a significant decrease in potential buyers after letting them know you are legally armed.

This is just my 2 cents and others may have better advice, (@MyPC8MyBrain has a good point).

Hello, I came across this site on my search of a upgrade path for my p870DM.

I could have sworn I have seen posts of people upgrading from the 7700k to 8th and 9th gen in the past but for the life of me, I can not find them anymore. It seems like they have disappeared off the web.

I have tried looking for dsanke and phoenix bios so I can upgrade. I am currently on the baked bios.

The lack of search results is making me second guess myself… I have seen a few threads of people talking about it but not enough information to lead me to the answer

I could be doing something wrong..

Any help in point me in the right direction would be awesome!

    Thank you.

They do exist on the NBRCHIVE Forums. I've used them in the past, but too cannot remember the name of the threads lol (all I can remember is that there were 2 of them posted by @DaMafiaGamer). Though, out of fear that the old forums might not have been archived back when they were about to shut down, I saved all of the Dsanke BIOSes alongside what you need to do to the pins for a 8th or 9th gen z170 mod from those threads you were talking about.

The Readme_Part 1 file got a bit messed up as I had accidently turned it into a .xlsx file a while ago. The conversion back to .txt worked, but messed with the format. If the new format is hard to read, you can turn the .xlsx file into a .pdf and that will fully restore the original format.

    Here's the file!

  14. I owned a P775TM1, it was a nice machine. Glad you have one too!

I am under the assumption you upgraded from one stick to two or four sticks. There should be a reasonable performance gain by using dual channel memory, even if it's a tad slower than the single stick. Could you perhaps send a screenshot of the memory tab in CPU-Z so we can figure out where your problem might be stemming from?

FN+D to clear or good old remove CMOS battery and battery and hold power for 30-40 seconds is next. Also try resetting and booting with one module.

Removing the CMOS battery worked. Something about @Mr. Fox BIOS settings doesn't bode well with my P870TM. I understand his guide was for the P870DM3, but it just doesn't like it. I don't do the memory tuning or uncore like he did because I'm not trying to OC my terrible RAM right now. Maybe something with the static voltage for the CPU? I understand what most of the settings do besides the IMON offset, maybe it could be that.

I just tried a second time without adjusting as many settings and it still bricked. I hope I don't goof anything up hard enough to render a CMOS reset useless.

    Edit:
Out of all things, the BIOS bricks itself whenever I adjust the cache settings or when I switch from Adaptive to Override voltage for the CPU (It's either one or the other or both). I will look more into it tomorrow as I am going to go out with some friends and am running short on time.

Did some research with the GTX 970, looks like it has modding potential for up to 280w-300w and 1.3v so it looks like its going to get a second run. All I did is crank it to the max as is. 🙂

This guy has done a lot with his 970, you can watch it evolve through time lol. He does a bunch of other stuff to GPUs, but his most prestigious one is his 970. Maybe you can do the same 😉

I remember some of those things, but don't remember clearly what I did with some of them. Here is what I remember from the P870DM3 (never had a TM).

    • keyboard lighting requires Clevo Control Center (CCC) cancer software
    • SATA drives are a bit tricky to line up with ports and need to use something to reach under the drive and lift up
    • If I remember correctly (big if) the BIOS fan option is to enable CCC to control the fans in Windows
    • There were two 1440p screen options, one better than the other (sorry, don't recall details - I had the better one)

Congratulations on purchasing the last good high performance laptop that was manufactured. The P870DM3 was the last laptop that I remember truly being fond of and didn't regret purchasing. I hope Clevo continues to offer service parts for it in case you ever need to replace something.

    3 hours ago, electrosoft said:

Keyboard LED is the specific program you want from Obsidian Tools to run. It is stand alone and fully functional. Between that, Prema and TS, you won't need to install the CCC cancer.

    6 hours ago, cylix said:

For the keyboard colors try obsidian software,  I still think they are up on their website.

Thanks for the tips guys, I've managed to overcome all of these problems now.

That said, I'm now wanting to delid the 8700k to push it to its limits. I've been eyeballing the ROCKIT 88 kit as I've it's pretty cheap and some of you guys have used it before, but I'm also interested in getting a better IHS. What IHS would you all recommend? I don't really know where to start here.
