I am glad you are thinking that way. We have a similar mindset. I was going to grab a 4080S, then got to thinking about that and changed my mind and bought a second 4090 instead. Do I think the 4090 is a better value? No. In fact, I think the 4080S is a better value. Do I think I would be happy spending less on a second-fiddle GPU? No, I don't. Now, sure... I think buying an Intel CPU for 75% less that performs on par with a 3060 Ti makes perfect sense. That's a no-brainer. But, the 4090 performs substantially better than a 4080S or 7900 XTX. The 4090 will last substantially longer due to the +20% higher performance, creams everything when ray tracing is involved, and it has more vRAM if a person wants to use a GPU for gaming for many years without an upgrade. And, the 4090 will have a much better resale value if an upgrade to 50-series is likely. The way I look at it, the 4080S, and even a 7900 XTX, is similar sitting on the edge of the swimming pool with your legs and feet in the water, scooping up water in your hands and splashing it onto yourself and getting your hair wet, etc... but never actually getting into the pool and swimming. Put a different way... close, but no cigar. Almost is for people playing horse shoes or throwing darts. Nothing wrong with that if it is what floats their boat. But, almost is not my thing. If I am going to save money, it needs to be more than a little bit. I like saving money, but only when it is enough to be meaningful. If it's just a little bit then it feels like a silly compromise instead of a sound decision. I love my Arc A770. It's amazing. And, I love how little I paid for it. I am looking forward to finding out what Battlemage looks like and how much sense it will make financially. The $1500~ decrease in cost is more than meaningful and makes compromising such an easy decision if it gets the job done. 1 1 1 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // X870E Carbon | 9950X | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. LOL..... x 1000. 🤣 This is why I like you @tps3443 always easy going and funny with comic relief material for days. 🙂 But in all seriousness, get the 4090. If/When I get a 5090, I will have used this 4090 for over two years and extracted maximum value. If you get a 4090 now with Blackwell looking more and more likely drifting into 2025, you will get well over a year or more from the 4090 with options to spare how you want to address the 5000 series. 1 hour ago, Rage Set said: Good. No time for splurging right now since we are buying a house lol. Me and my wife must have our down payment sit in the bank untouched and an additional 2 months living wages sitting in the bank as well on top of that. All while we inch towards our closing day on our new home. The worst thing is these random expenses popping up that are not covered by our home loan. So far we’ve spent about $3500 on random items. Septic permit, special use permit for land, home appraisal, earnest money towards our land. Any extra money for a more expensive GPU must be actually legit saved with time and not just removed or my wife would disown me 😂lol. But I’d be totally happy with Suprim X 4080 Super. So I might just go that route. And make do. Im putting away a few hundred this pay period, and I’m already returning my 4080 Super. I’m gonna see how optimistic or motivated I feel about stepping to the xx90 level when I have the return funds back😀. 4 13900KF

Well, you have to do what makes the most sense for your family and the house it the first priority. You could let the pendulum swing the other way and get an Arc A770, enjoy what a truly fantastic inexpensive GPU it is. You sold your 3090 already and need a GPU right? I can tell you I am as pleased as punch with my A770. When you spend so little and get respectable results it is not hard to lower your expectations. Where that becomes a problem for me is when I spend a lot. It's easier (for me) to be disappointed with the outcome when it wasn't a low-cost option, and easy to feel satisfied when I spent very little on something that just works really well. 1 2 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // X870E Carbon | 9950X | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. Then we bought the heater/AC unit right before Christmas at +$3000. This year there will be a new sliding balcony door. Only $5000. So the 4090s seems damn cheap in comparison, HaHa The new will become old, and you must renew it with time (your house/apartment and your tech). Most of the 4080 Super MSRP cards will float your boat with a waterblock and chiller. We have still access to X-flashing and lower GPU temps will still benefit 4000 series cards. Pay much more than MSRP is silly when you know the xx80 cards should never have costed more than $800-899 USD. 20 hours ago, Papusan said: Regardless.. I will buy two new. See what they say. Ordered 2x 12VHPWR cables. And they are on the way. The beQuiet 12VHPWR cables is half the price vs the 12VHPWR cables from Corsair😎 And all the other brands 12VHPWR cables is from 50-100% more expensive. I paid $15 USD for each of the cables without tax. So $30.10 for two + the Norwegian tax. And heres the thing. You pay double the price for this ugly 4-way pigtail adapter. I played COD Modern Warfare (2023) for just over 2 hours this evening with the GPU overclocked +100 core, +1400 memory, +100mV and pulling over 380W yet temps were perfect. Not even close to getting hot. Max temps were core 54.2°C, memory 58°C and hot spot 62.6°C. That's fantastic for an air cooled GPU with an overclock. Now I just have to pop the lid off of this SP117 CPU and run it bare die so I can clock it higher that 5.7GHz without it getting too hot under a severe load like Cinebench. Looks like with the maxed out settings and ray tracing candy cranked the GPU was using almost 15GB of vRAM. 3 1 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // X870E Carbon | 9950X | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. Those are decent temps on air? Anyway, the issue is that you got yourself into a launch buying frenzy / pressure cooker and ended up with a weird card with no water blocks available. Could that be because it has just been launched (I don’t recall seeing those Expert cards before)? Maybe, but by going with a more standard gamer/enthusiast design you would have been guaranteed availability of a water block, and the temps would have been better on air. Then again, you could have just sat on your 3090 a little longer.. I would respectfully suggest that you tune out the 4090 bros here for now and focus on the house, instead of dropping extra $800 on a GPU in an untimely fashion. Have you budgeted all the spend after you complete? Frankly if you even take a little break from gaming as a result, you will be more than OK - trust me. Anyway, GPU prices and availability should improve in the weeks to come (would be my guess), so you will likely be rewarded for your patience. On a more philosophical note, the pursuit of ‘the best’ can prove problematic for most people, not least because going from ‘great’ to ‘the best’ tends be very costly and provide quite diminishing returns. OK, so you drop that $2k on a gaming video card if that helps you feel better (the reality is that very few people would actually care I guess), but can you also have the best body/health, car, house/neighbourhood, career, partner, family, kids in college, vacations, yacht etc? It’s a road towards suffering. BTW It’s also how unscrupulous P2W game developers (e.g. EA) make money - people drop hundreds/thousands to have the best virtual character in a game, most likely as a substitute for achieving “the best” in other areas of life… I would suggest the better way of looking at this is to ask: “Is this the best way to spend those resources ($ and time)?”. If at one point you determine that getting a gaming GPU is the best way to spend $2k for you then go ahead, but either way - unlike the futile pursuit of the best/most expensive - you can win the optimal resource utilisation challenge every day, and derive great and lasting pleasure from that. 1 2 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity

tps3443
6 hours ago, Etern4l said: Those are decent temps on air? Yeah the 4090 idea was just a thought of hmmmm 🤨 🧐 “Evil laughter moment” after returning the 4080 Super, and getting the opportunity to spin the wheel again lol. I recouped some and saved and budgeted the rest to be able to buy the 4080 Super so it wouldn’t affect me financially, so I’m not spending money on credit cards etc, or pulling from our main savings account, I can afford to own and keep a 4080 Super 🙂. It’s really just the simple fact that I really hate the card I originally bought on launch day, and I think I was trying to make my self love it and make do lol. If it was my mind set just a few years ago I’d be stacking the remainder 4090 balance on a credit card 😆 Once Newegg refunds me, I’m just gonna order a Suprim X 4080 Super. Thats more inline with what I’m after. Big effective air cooler, waterblock options available, free mouse pad, I need a new one anyways. I’m really looking forward to moving most of all though, I’m going to have my own office in a new home on my own land which is something I’ve been wanting since starting the “Work at home” thing in 2020. Me and my wife have been working hard for this for years now. We have been renting the same place for like 7 years now, which is a partially remodeled double wide home that was originally built in 1986. But it barely has air conditioning, slow leaking roof, mold growing in some of the closets anytime we have our landlords fix something they increase our rent. In my state they can continue increasing rent with no limit for no reason. So we’ve been more or less working towards saving money and building up our finances so we can buy a new home which is pretty costly in 2024 with how expensive things are. But it’s all good, I’m prepared for that. 3 13900KF

I really like that look, well done 👊 any links to these? Titan PC? Frozen CPU? Performance PC,s? Thank you for the compliment. No, those are just lines on the bottom of the case that lead to my external cooling system. The pumps, reservoir and 1080 (360x3) radiator are outside of the case. I have passthrough fittings in the empty bottom PCIe slot in the case. Both of my large desktops have the loop designed the same way. The one with the water chiller has a 5 gallon tank reservoir and five D5 pumps. The one in the photo has two D5 pumps. Strangely enough the flow rate is almost the same on both systems. You can buy it direct from EKWB and usually less than from Titan Rig or Performance-PCS unless you can grab one on sale or a good used one on eBay. https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-pro-manifold-2cpu-4gpu-acet There is a smaller version with fewer ports, but I prefer the larger one. Even though I do not use all of them, they are available and it allows me to space the fittings further apart (an empty plugged port between each fitting). On the other system I have it mounted to the floor of the case. 47 minutes ago, Talon said: Did your new Gigabyte card arrive with the updated PCB? https://videocardz.com/newz/gigabyte-strengthens-rtx-40-board-design-amid-pcb-cracking-issues I did not know there was an improved version. If you don't, then don't and address your financial priorities/responsibilities. I refuse to pay interest on anything. If I can't afford it, I don't get it. I even buy my cars outright. My dad always said, "the more you feel rushed to buy or especially someone rushes you to buy, the more you wait." and I've always used that approach when purchasing anything and it has only failed me a few times in life (IE, something that is clearly an already killer value and I should have just bought it immediately versus waiting). Funny about the house. We used to own a monster sized two story + basement house w/ a pool and once my daughter grew up and moved, we downsized to a double wide for efficiency and it has provided insane savings across the board versus a house with much less square footage to clean and upkeep and a cozier existence for just the two of us. My wife's parents did the same thing over 20yrs ago. They sold the family home and moved into a very nice double wide. We have discussed maybe meeting in the middle and getting a small rancher but the ease and convenience can't be beat. Be prepared for much higher costs and upkeep across the board. 2 2 Electrosoft Prime: SP109 14900KS | Asrock Z790i Lightning | MSI Suprim X Liquid 4090 | AC LF II 420 | TG 2x16GB 8200 | Samsung 990 Pro 2TB | EVGA 1600w P2 | Phanteks Ethroo Pro | Alienware AW3225QF 32" OLED Heath: i9-12900k | EVGA CLC 280 | Asus Strix Z690 D4 | Asus Strix 3080 | 32GB DDR4 2x16GB B-Die 4000 | WD Black SN850 512GB | EVGA DG-77 | Samsung G7 32" 144hz 32" My for sale items on eBay. Nice systems bro Fox. But regarding the flow rate.... I expect the chiller run colder.... Aka lower temps will reduce flow rate. Same also if you use different coolant for them. Can you confirm you use exactly same coolant? 2 hours ago, electrosoft said: Gigabyte is known for slapping on some monster size air coolers on some of their cards. What you in short say.... Idiots buying Gigabyte. Not as easy.... Gigabyte made trash PCB design before this new change. That's the facts. Put up 1000 cards. 50% with Gigabyte and 50% with another brand. The outcome will still show that more Gigabyte cards get cracks due idiot PCB design. Not because only idiots buy Gigabyte😎 Isn't that idiotic? Same also with FE cards. PCB is designed with same weird shape. Maybe less cards sold (or lower weight in combination with a shorter card) can help Nvidia fix less cracked cards. Or they sell their FE cards to less idiots😆 Yup, Gigabyte was able to see for themself that their own idiot GPU PCB design pushed away former buyers after they being screwed with cracked cards. Good repair youtube videos floding also helped push Gigabyte in the right direction. A big win win for idiots? Or for Gigabyte?
