When new is worse than the old. Is this what we call progress bro @ryan? Or does it just tell us that newer isn't always better than the old? Hmmm.... Why not put all your money in an console next time you buy something for your gaming needs? Because you can't have it all! An phone for calling and messages, an console for gaming and an desktop pc for your computing needs. Unisex ain't what I want.

Yup, it match ugly tech🤗 And you'll probably see me posting it later as well. It match everything that's ugly or disgusting. And who knows... Maybe the unisex tech(no) monster already have a tail. I will later add horns. But not same ones as we vikings use. It has to be disgusting. Exactly as some of the modern tech we see nowadays.

As far as the AMD stuff goes......

 

Let me toss some simple facts....

 

Techtubers are exactly that,,,,,,,a guy that shows tech on a you tube channel.

 

So lets get this straight. He runs a dual ccd cpu at presumably xmp 7200 and compares it versus a  vcache cpu.

 

First of all dual ccd cpu's have there own inherent problems with using the faster ccd.......

 

You want to make sure your on frequency ccd then disable the other.

 

7200 is async and actually probably the worst case scenario you could possibly put a dual ccd cpu in......

 

literally 6000 sync at that point would be better. Async only starts to edge out 1/1 @ 8000 1/2.

 

Then we  have the timing aspect of non vcache cpu's........guess what timings matter and xmp well is slow. To tight is also slow. But typically you can pull 40 fps gains dialed in.

 

Now if we are talking out the box reviews sure.....and its a no brainer a vcache cpu is going to win.

 

I mean lets rewind to 7000 series launch pre x3d launch.......amd's enemy was AMD and the 5800x3d..... 

 

OMG a tech tuber me firsted what anyone with 2 grains of rice for brain cells could have figured out based on ryzen 7 launch reviews.

 

Last but not least i seem to recall the 7900x doing very poorly in gaming and the 7900x3d doing poorly as well whats this guy using? THE EQUIVALENT.

The 3090 Ti FTW3 Black arrived. It is an EVGA refurbished and looks like brand new. Looks fantastic in the A21 case and runs nice.

lol @Papusan I could argue all day but i wont...newer is always better lol. as for a console I like to mod my games and prefer the pc library. as for one machine does it all....why not. unisex? I prefer females but thanks for posting that selfie..gives me a rough estimate of your tastes. but all kidding aside I will most definitely end up with a desktop cell combo, but im interested in new tech like vr headsets, ar glasses, console like gaming in hands, 3d holographic displays, cutting edge. why benchmark if it isnt your passion.

Thank you. I love it. When I saw this GPU for $799 on NewEgg I could not resist it. So much better than spending the same amount, or slightly more, on a 4070 Ti Super. Such a compromise. This is way better. They have more of them. I could not use my Corsair RAM fan with the EK 360 Direct Die AIO due to the fitting placement, so I decided I may as well set it on the backplate and blow cool air into the opening around the x-bracket. It actually dropped the temps a couple of degrees.

 

Speaking of beautiful and backplates, GPUs without a backplate are so stinking ugly. And, the naked PCB seems unsafe to me. All of those contacts, circuits and exposed SMDs. The Titan cards had no backplates, which was common in that era. Well, to fix that I found a new open box XSPC Titan backplate, complete with thermal pads and screws. Unfortunately, the screws included are the wrong size. They include M3 x 11MM and this GPU uses M2.5. I have the M2.5 screws up to 8MM and I need 11MM long for the fours screws around the core. But this looks WAY better than a naked PCB. I will have to order some M2.5 x 11mm screws on Amazon. The M2.5 x 8MM were long enough to use everywhere else. I am temporarily using the 8MM screws around the core under the backplate instead of going through the back plate.

 @Prema you have seen my old robot friend in works several years ago but my old good helper is now almost dead. So I needed a new friend to help us in Papusan's Plaza. I bought it in white because the black version will be more ugly with time. So hope this brand don't offer trash white as Dell offered their AW Jokebooks (going yellow after 4 weeks). Not sure what I will name it. Trash? Any good name for it?

Remember, that new nicely binned 11900K that I sold you came from Walmart.


So, I procrastinated about doing this for months now. I finally just did it to get it over with. It actually works quite well. At the lowest speed it is quieter than the nine 120mm fans it replaced. When I dismantled the radiator to remove all of the 120mm fans, I used a thick foam weatherstrip to seal the 4 sides of the radiator against the housing so that the air being forced in could not escape anywhere except through the radiator. I have a window screen (with an aluminum frame) that I made. It is sandwiched between the plywood and radiator housing to catch dust and lint. I can take the fan off with the four thumb nuts to remove the screen for cleaning.

State of the SP109 14900KS:

 

For my most likely SFF settings of 56x/45x/50x 8000 for CB23 loop testing, Vcore is BIOS set 1.28v fixed , LLC 3 and ~ 1.152v under load resulting in 72c on the Lian Li Galahad II Performance 360mm AIO w/ KPx. PL are unlimited and ICC is capped to 400a. This results in pulling ~323w in HWInfo verified with ye ole Kill-o-Watt meter. This chip is hungry but runs relatively cool.

 

I worked with AC/DC LL and it really didn't make much of a difference and added in a little bit of instability, so near stock (.74) is good enough. I was able to shave off ~9-10w dialing it in and it wasn't worth it overall.

 

SP115 13900ks required fixed 1.33 for the same level of performance and that was with E-cores @ 4.3 vs 4.5 on the 14900KS.

 

SP109 14900KS can do 5.7 same settings as above and top out around 77-80c on the AIO at 1.33v fixed CB23 pulling ~356w.

 

Ambient temp in my computer room is ~70-72f year around.

 

I haven't really worked with 14900KS chips, but i'm kinda amazed how cool then CAN run even on an AIO dialed in with no delid.

 

I haven't really dug into 5.8 too deeply as I moved onto memory a bit when I had time but I want to see where that tunes into too.

Right now, I'm fighting with the memory so as a control I ordered a set of Teamgroup 8200 sticks that will be here tomorrow. Problem it looks like is the heat sinks (aka heat retainers) of the Patriot sticks hit ~53-55ish and they error out at 8200 in about 15 minutes. If I put a 140mm fan directly over them, they can last about 25 minutes on TM5 before hitting the same temp. This is before dialing them in along with Vmem but the writing is on the wall for temps being an issue especially when I move it to the SFF case.

 

XMP on the Patriots 8200 requires 1.45 vs 1.4 for the Teamgroup 8200 (not that it will matter in the end as I scale and tune manually but I still want to compare their full timings for comparison just to see).

 

Teamgroup has actually somewhat usable heatsinks but in the end, I feel like i'm going to order a set of these to try and minimize heat as much as possible. If there are better heatsinks out there, please let me know. I'll work with both sets over the next few days and return the weaker set (or both if needed) which I feel is going to be the Patriots but you never know. Maybe a good, tested 8400+ set will pop up on the forums for sale in the next week or so. 🙂

This was a cost experiment as much as functionality. Temps are the same as before and driven primarily by my high ambient temperatures and extremely low humidity in Phoenix (usually around 27°C (80°F) and often less than 10% RH). The low humidity is both a blessing and a curse. It makes ambient cooling less efficient due to no evaporative cooling effect. The positive effect is when I run my chiller there is no issue with condensation due to the absence of moisture in the air. ESD is also a danger with low humidity.
 

The 120mm fans were quite old (about 10 years of running 24/7) and worn out. Some were not spinning full speed and laggy in starting. Replacing them with a good low-cost fan, such as the P12 Max, would cost about $100 USD. This automotive fan was less than $30 and 800 CFM. With the controller and piece of plywood, screws, etc. the total cost was just under half the cost of buying new 120mm fans.

I have talked a lot about this. Intels's binning is flawed!  Hence we got so many bad chips that should have ben binned as an lower SKU! Intel's binning offer people trash KS chips.

I suspect many many 14900K and especially 14900KS chips will degrade over the next year or so. I also suspect many users are going to be irritated when the new MC patch neuters a lot of those boost speeds as many of us are seeing testing even current limits and actually running Intel new limits which as found doesn't stop lesser core boosting to 1.5v+.

 

Helping out a few friends and a few guildies with their systems = Two 14900KS chips and two 14900K chips and three were "flame on!" out of the box at stock settings tanking 3x AIOs and one CL without tuning. Even the  SP115 13900KS was approaching the sun out of the box before tuning. One 14900KS was an SP98 on a Z790 Strix and it capped out at 1.40 BIOS setting and pulled close to 1.3v to be stable under CB23 load testing. I ended up setting it to 53x / 43x / 45x to keep it stable and cool on his AIO but it still games like a monster.

 

The universal answer of enabling CEP, cutting PL to 253w and ICC to 400a just results in Silicon Lottery grossly coming into play and the better your silicon, the more performance you will get when capped across the board but either way it is nowhere near what it should be as advertised and still doesn't stop 1-4 core loads from spiking over 1.5v. I wouldn''t be surprised if Intel doesn't cap it to 1.5v or even 1.45v across the board regardless of situation with the MC update.

 

I still firmly believe that capping your PL is not the solution nor the problem. It will always be dialing in and controlling your Vcore and as a safety measure just cap your amps to 400a which in just about all normal like scenarios won't even be approached. Just using CEP, PL and ICC is an indirect way of limiting your Vcore but not in all scenarios if unchecked.

I haven't really worked with 14900KS chips, but i'm kinda amazed how cool then CAN run even on an AIO dialed in with no delid.

 

I haven't really dug into 5.8 too deeply as I moved onto memory a bit when I had time but I want to see where that tunes into too.

Right now, I'm fighting with the memory so as a control I ordered a set of Teamgroup 8200 sticks that will be here tomorrow. Problem it looks like is the heat sinks (aka heat retainers) of the Patriot sticks hit ~53-55ish and they error out at 8200 in about 15 minutes. If I put a 140mm fan directly over them, they can last about 25 minutes on TM5 before hitting the same temp. This is before dialing them in along with Vmem but the writing is on the wall for temps being an issue especially when I move it to the SFF case.

 

XMP on the Patriots 8200 requires 1.45 vs 1.4 for the Teamgroup 8200 (not that it will matter in the end as I scale and tune manually but I still want to compare their full timings for comparison just to see).

 

Teamgroup has actually somewhat usable heatsinks but in the end, I feel like i'm going to order a set of these to try and minimize heat as much as possible. If there are better heatsinks out there, please let me know. I'll work with both sets over the next few days and return the weaker set (or both if needed) which I feel is going to be the Patriots but you never know. Maybe a good, tested 8400+ set will pop up on the forums for sale in the next week or so. 🙂

 

 

 

 

 


Just grab the 8200 G.Skill 2x24’s 😎 (They are better than the G.Skill 8400’s from what I can see and have heard from others as well) See pic below. That is 8400c40@1.400V with tighter timings than the 8400 XMP kit. I used the below test to make sure my ram was not a limiting factor, which it absolutely is not, but I had to see since I have Gskill 8200’s my self, and ended up with a great IMC. I have tested the Patriot 8200‘s they worked okay, but found them just slightly worse than my G.Skill 7200’s. Many rumors also point to the G.Skill 8200’s as being the superior bin to the G.Skill 8400’s. 
 

These sticks can even do 8600c40@1.400V for TM5 Anta777 Extreme/ MemtestPro/ 1usmus 20 cycles/Karhu. “All the usual lighter ram testing apps” 🤯 🤯🤯

What are you using to cool them? I picked up the TG because of the superior HS and to compare/contrast with the Patriot sticks but I sit there and watch the Patriot temps edge upward and know when they get to ~ 53-55, an error is incoming. I even closed the case completely up and let it get toasty in there (there are no fans except the AIO intake in the front so that is hurting not helping lol) I can get them to crash in ~10 minutes with the case closed. 15 minutes case open and 25 minutes with a fan right on them at 8200.

 

I haven't even checked to see how high they will post on either set. I'll check that later.

 

I did check the newest 0X125 vs 0X11F Microcodes versus each other just to see if there was a difference and there wasn't for my needs which was expected since I tuned everything manually but I DO know even at stock default everything with 0X125, that thing shot to 363w and overheated almost immediately when I first tested it last week before "The Tuning-ing"

 

Going to sort out / have fun with the memory over the next several days then dial in 5.8 all core just to see where it lands with this SP109.

 

ETA for the SFF transplant is probably a month at the rate I'm sauntering along in the testing/dialing in plus I still plan on slapping the 7900xtx in there and then 4090 to collect all new sets of data since the WoW Pre-patch Xpac has dropped (final upgrades/settings for the new Xpac GPU engine).

Crazy timing. I've had to wire a few of these exact fans up for my buddy's V8 swapped S10. How much better is this single fan compared to the many smaller fans? These fans can move A LOT of air, but they seem to be a bit noisy. At full speed, is it louder than the old setup?

Intel:

 

I would prefer to see actual Vcore/ out idle and under load as that is the most accurate read under load not VID requests.... (IE, what is requested vs what is actually given).  With every 13th and 14th gen so far tuned, VID pretty much does it's own thing but scroll down further under motherboard and read Vcore / out and you will see the actual fixed Vcore idle and the droop under load.

 

Now if under load Vcore/out is hitting those levels that's another story.....

 

AMD:

 

Remember, I received a brand new SEALED 7950X3D from best buy with a 7950X in it.....QC run amok. Still hilarious though. 🙂

Stepping through my amps, ~325a set stopped any type of downclocking at 56x / 45x / 50x which coincidentally using the calculation showed 307a bios set wasn't enough (307a set = 204a actual) but Intel allows 400a under their new guidlines set = 576a which is overkill if you're looking to dial in your ICC to that particular setting.

 

~341a-342a bios set is the inflection point it seems if you're looking for equilibrium between set and actual.

 

 

 

Or we can take the @Mr. Fox approach and open up everything to the wall! 🙂

At full speed, yes. Much louder. At low speed, not any louder. But, I had Arctic F12 wimpy wuss fans on the radiator. At max speed they were too slow (1800 RPM) to get loud. They were also weak and the cheapest name-brand fans money can buy. I would never buy them again, but they did a so-so job and lasted a very long time. 

 

At full speed a significant portion of the noise is generated by the massive amount of air (800 CFM) getting rammed through the radiator fins at high velocity.

 

I am possibly going to replace this with P12 Max fans in a week or two. Not because of being loud at full speed, which should be expected, but even at low speed the fan motor itself is audible. It is not the fan blades making noise chopping the air, but the actual motor itself makes a faint "whirring" sound almost like a gearbox of some sort. That sound is not very loud, but it is constant. The decision to keep it or replace it with P12 Max fans will depend on whether or not I become desensitized and stop noticing that sound over the next week or two, or if it grates on me and becomes annoying.
