One bottle of Kryonaut Extreme is 33.84g = So $3 USD per gram. Still damn expensive. But other lower end brand pastes here home will cost the same or even more. Etc Noctua NT-H2 High Performance will cost me $4 USD per gram. Me... Haven't much options but I rather buy the small bottle Grizzly and at least can save some money. And as FYI. This is with the dreaded 25% Norwegian tax included. 

 

Edit. 2 gram Thermalright TF8 cost +32$ or 16$ per gram. Isn't that disgusting?

Yup it seems I have not many other choices than continue buying bottles with Kryonaut Extreme. A lot money to pay each time I need paste, but I haven't many other choices. Buy small syringes with thermal paste will cost me more. So that's not an option. Just pay and be happy🤢

Yeah, those prices are ridiculous. Given that they seem to have no meaningful difference in performance, then I would definitely go with the more affordable option. It would be silly to spend more for one or the other. The Kryonaut Extreme obviously works great and for me to purchase it again would be fiscally foolish unless it becomes less expensive than KPx. Simple logic. Since I use liquid metal on my bare die setups I do not use very much thermal paste (or liquid metal since it does not wear out).

 

I wish I had a good way to delid this Xeon. I believe it is soldered. I know it is not as popular with everyone as it used to be, but I really do not like anything that is not delidded and bare die. I will always do that when it is an option.

Here is proof. Just did the comparison today. Kryonaut Extreme is the same as KPx in terms of how it works. It costs A WHOLE LOT more. Good stuff, but not worth it. I will use it since I bought it, but I won't ever buy it again. No benefit unless the goal is to spend $10.00 per gram more for the pink color instead of blue. Literally no difference.

Thanks for giving it a test! I guess the upside is, cost aside, it performs just as well. The downside is the crazy cost per gram comparatively.

How do your e-cores scale in this scenario from 44x, 45x, 46x, 47x and 48x? For me, I'd back off the e-cores and see what the trade off is for the P-cores and find that nice equalibrium.

 

 


No I’m not delidding this one. This chip does alright. Low power and low voltage at 5.9/4.8/5.0R. 1.225v load Vmin R23. Battlefield 2042 with 128 players at 4K@120hz is 120-130 watts CPU power in the map.


I have not tried stock E-Cores on this bios. But other bios 5.9P/4.5E/5.0R is usually 288 watt R23 with 1.208V Vmin. 5.9P/4.5E/4.5R is like 1.190v. If you don’t run XMP or OCed ram you can get it down a bit more. 
 

My R-Batch at 5.9P/4.8E/5.0R was 1.234-1.243v (No delid) And about 16-17 watts more power.

 

The biggest difference for me is the stronger IMC on this KS chip though. Memory controller is gold.

 I am still waiting for the adapter cable for the fans to complete the Xtreme Waterforce conversion to Xtreme Air. I went ahead and installed the assembly. To install the cable I only have to remove 4 screws from the shroud. This looks really nice. I am glad that I ordered the kit that includes the backplate because it is different than the Waterforce. It has additional screw holes. I am eager to see how hot/cold it runs with this thermal unit.

just logged into my computer to see if I could get the top spot in one of the nomad benchmarks..haha I got 11th and forgot I was already number 1. blonde moment, havent been on my computer much these days, converted to a tablet for a little while. will likely get back into the swing of things in a few weeks. need to get that 4080 desktop for 2300 as I doubt the 5080 will be a good value.

Just going to post this here as I know many here have dealt with this heatsink.


I'm modifying my P870TM heatsink to accommodate a 2070 Super. I'm currently solder pasting some shims on to cover the VRAM. This heatsink is an ANIMAL. I cannot get my 138c solder paste to melt. A buddy and I have held a 1500w and 600w heat gun right up to the shims for 20+ minutes and the paste will not melt fully. While Clevo doesn't have the greatest track record with heatsinks, this thing is insane, and I must give them credit.

I'm kind of stuck on what to do because I don't think I can get the shims soldered on using the paste...
(Don't question the alcohol, it was the best thing we had nearby to prop up the heatsink, none was consumed.)

Yup. Here you see Nvidia improve their 4070 line with cheaper GDDR6 vram. Slower vram paired with an castrated bus. Can't be better. Remember this will be the newest 4070 SKU so it has to be better.

All of the other stuff in your post is sad, but Buildzoid probably has no idea that 0x129 fixed the SA bug. So, for that reason only I would say it is not worthless, but extremely valuable.

Yup. But the solution to elevated voltage is more for the average gamer-boys and girls. Once they start fiddling in bios to try increase performance the hell is back with more complaints abot degraded CPU's. A never ending story will going forwards. And the techtubers will continue say you all should avoid Intel.

 

Enthusiast should know how to tune their processors, so the fix for the SA bug is the icing on the cake. So a a double-edged sword. Aka one step forward then one step backwards for the average Joe if you know what I mean. Bad publicity will hurt us all. In the end you risk Intel forget enthusiasts and that all what we will get back is "halfway locked down" trashware as in Jokebooks.

Will have to be confirmed on other motherboards too, but the problem appears to be it is set by default but Intel still left in place controls for MB settings to disable it for LN2 and other hardcore OC'ers which is the right move.  It is up to the MB makers to keep it in place in all situations except when explicitly disabled. This may be the fault of Gigabyte and how it handles settings outside of stock Intel defaults on the 0x129 era.

We can turn off Enhanced TVB, and it removes the 1.450V limit. Then it’s just like any bios. New bios is working great so far though. I have not had any surprises but a very low power and very cool running chip.

Ditto. On an AIO and stock lid, after a lot of testing, 5.9 / 4.5 / auto is really the sweet spot and correlates nicely to the V/F point and runs great with Intel enforced limits of 253w/400a 5.9 all core. Temps usually stay nice and low.

 

6ghz all core is doable, but I'm not super keen on the vcore pull sometimes and temps are good but I know this is going to eventually end up on the 240mm EK Nucleus so I need temps to be great now so they can be great/good in the sff.

 

Next step is move the 240mm in the test case and that also opens up room to slot in the 7900xtx and start testing it and the 4090 back and forth against the 7950x3d in single binned X3D CCD mode.

Exactly and quite honestly the MC update is working as intended. Anyone who goes with Intel defaults is fully protected along with the SA Bug being fixed. The fact changing BIOS options removes the protection for me shows Intel still giving MB makers control which is exactly what you want. It is up to Gigabyte (and other MB makers if they haven't already) to  leave in place the full 1.55v ceiling in all scenarios unless a user explicitly removes it for whatever reasons (LN2, suicide runs, etc...).

 

Other MBs will have to be tested to see how they handle BIOS alterations and the 1.55v limit in different scenarios.

I decided to go ahead and install this in Methuselah and put the Titan on the shelf. I don't have the fan cable yet, so this is running without fans. Just doing mundane tasks like web surfing and email until I get the cable. But, doing that the GPU core has never gone above 35°C core and hotspot 48°C. The fans mounted in the chassis floor seem to be providing enough air flow for low intensity normal use. I think it looks great. I lost access to one PCIe slot due to the extra slot being taken by the girth of the air cooler, so I will have to install a dual NVMe card in the bottom slot rather than using two single NVMe cards.

I bought some faster RAM for it as well. 2666 vs current 2400. Got it cheap on eBay.

I'm afraid the negative will outwin the positive after the Intel failure with 13th and 14th gen chips. The sharks (Tech-tubers, tech-sites and influencers) will circle around Intel's wound a long time. The new Intel introduced limits with 0x129 should stay in works until you yourself changing settings for your likings. Only a change as etc turn off Enhanced TVB shouldn't render Intel's fixes in the new MC useless. Many ways to "not" stop performance enthusiasts from plaing with their tech toy's. But it won't stop with mc 0x129, so.... There is still hope for the gamer kids crying for more help or better fixes.

Watching BZ's video about disabled 0x129, and he clearly says it is basically Gigabyte's fault and that after accepting the warning of not using Intel's default settings (it actually gives you a warning on their board), all bets are off and you're back to Gigabyte's settings which includes horrendously set LLCs and unrealistic UV which can cause poor silicon to crash right out of the box. Just piss poor settings from Gigabyte by default even with the newest BIOS.

 

This reminds me of Asrock and their 0x125 BIOS which set at proper defaults and enforced limits was still thermal throttling and shooting to the moon at 363w but more importantly pulling a crap ton of vcore. The newest 0x129 update works properly right out of the box with enforced limits and temps and everything were within range and 6.2 boosting went bye bye to 5.9 max.

 

 

Back to BZ:

 

He literally says "Now maybe some vendors somehow like have a way of keeping it in place but at least on gigabyte it disappears as soon as you turn off Intel default settings..." - This is what I was alluding to previously.

 

He also notes the Silicon lottery and the fact his CPU can't run R15 with the Intel default settings on Gigabyte but if you have good Silicon it can run it. This is mainly due to Gigabyte's aggressive UV/LLC out of box on 0x129.

 

Another thing is even after disabling Intel Enforced Limits and running multiple tests, he fails to spike to 1.6+ which he was doing pre-0x129 and caps out at 1.5792v which is oddly specific and close to 1.55.....

Was the Titan not fast enough? What made you want to put a 2080Ti in that system?
 

Im building my daughter a pc very soon. I have these parts for her build. So I will have 3 rigs in the family. 😃
 

Asus Z690 Hero, this is the re-released 2022+ model without the defects that prior 2021 units had. And also some Gskill 2x16GB DDR5 5600. 
 

I am going to get a cpu and gpu next. Ideally I’d like to get another chip like my son’s pc. He has a 12900KS, and he loads the system to the moon, and I never hear him speak of any slow downs 🤣 

 

Edit: Actually, I might not put a GPU in her PC. She plays Roblox and Sims 4. So I really think an overclocked iGPU and some good system ram would suit her needs.

CPU VDD2/CPU VDD is a freaking external voltage rail that neither the CPU nor the DRAM see at all. . 

 

Also Intel does not set 1.4v, the motherboard BIOS does this based upon the memory speed and density. He is using an XMP Kit rated for 6000 CL32 in a 2x32gb DUAL RANK config. That is a very high density and high speed XMP kit for a 4x DIMM board. No wonder Asrock sets 1.4v CPU VDD2 and CPU IMC.

Hearing about you building a home network for your kids brings back a lot of fond memories. I built each of my five kids their own desktop.

 

Correct on the Titan being too slow. It can still work on low to medium setting, but no ray tracing sucks. It's basically the same as 780 Ti. Nearly identical performance and in the same generation. 2080 Ti totally obliterates it. I had the 2080 Ti already. I bought it like about a year ago for Windows 7 benching. Just converted it to air cooling so I could use it in this system (no custom loop SFF).

 

I actually really like this antique. It performs surprisingly great. After the BIOS mod for NVMe support (which did not exist when X79 was released) it because a pretty compelling machine. And, the best thing about it is...

That YouTube channel is pretty worthless. Besides just being dead wrong about a lot of stuff, the guy is about as entertaining as watching paint dry. Not really any better than Gamer Meld. Lots of nonsense from some of these bobble-heads. Ignorance isn't a sin, but it is contagious. Simple fix for it is knowledge, but know-it-all folk are hard to cure.

So, I pulled one of the two dual NVMe cards from the Encore for the X79 Gene. It already had eight, LOL. One less won't hurt anything. I sacrificed the Windows 11 drive since I almost never use that sucky POS cancer operating system anyway. Set that one on the desk for later, kept the one with Linux and put it on the single NVMe card in the Encore.

My 4080 SUPER full OC, vs my 4090 full OC. I actually ran a bunch of random benchmarks and took pictures so I could race my past self when I get bored. 🤭

 

41% faster!!! 🤩

Application Optimizer? Is that the recent gaming enhancement from Intel for 13th and 14th Gen CPUs?  The X79 Rampage IV Gene is 4th Gen. But, I don't think I use it even on the platforms that support it. If that is what you are referring to, I am pretty confident it doesn't work on Gen 4. I have never even investigated this on my current tech systems because gaming isn't ranked very high on my list of priorities. I do enjoy FPS gaming and occassionally binge play, but I don't give a lot of time or effort to the pursuit of it. I put the 2080 Ti into this system just so it would not be a slideshow with decent settings (High versus Low or Medium) and resolutions above 1080p. Most modern titles (CoD MW, Battlefield 2042, Crysis 3 Remastered, etc) were a bit too much for the GTX Titan to manage gracefully. The first generation Titan is only 6GB of vRAM and the core and memory clocks are very slow by current standards. It did manage to play older games (released during its time) very smoothly.

 

The X79 platform does not have the necessary firmware support for Resizable Bar (decoding above 4G I believe is what is missing) and neither does 2080 Ti firmware from what I can remember. I know that was released like 6 to 12 month after 3090 was released because Vince (Kingpin) sent me an updated XOC vBIOS when that happened. I actually did look into this and I was able to add the module into the firmware along with NVMe support, but there is no BIOS menu option to enable decoding above 4G or Resizable Bar. I believe older GPUs like 20-series RTX cards would support it but you would need to have an updated vBIOS as well as motherboard support.
