I can see people holding onto their 4090s unless they want a 5090FE and even then you have to dig in your pocket for +400 + tax additional for a model not desired. If not, that trade in PLUS 1000-1200 more is what you will spend for a Windforce which is the cheapest one atm.

 

Want a more desireable Master? That's +1400 + tax or 2x as much as you're getting for your 4090. Suprim? Adios +1500 + tax. Astral? Sayonara to +1759 + tax.

 

I agree inventory is flush and getting more flush every day so either prices will come down a bit (as they have for the PNYs already) or inventories will stagnate.

That is an absolutely great trade-in value considering that is almost new MSRP for that GPU. But, if something seems to good to be true it probably is. There is an underlying motivation that we are not seeing and I can just about guarantee you that it is ultimately not going to be for the benefit of consumers. Someone else is going to benefit from it, not NewEgg's customers. It's not a generous gesture of goodwill. NewEgg is playing the auto dealership scam. Give you more than your trade-in is worth and then more than make up for it when they screw you six ways to Sunday on an overpriced new car. If it were a legit thing they would cash you out for $1600 nstead of giving credit on a new GPU purchase.

 

Plus, it's still not enough money to offset the extreme overpricing of the 5090. I think stock has "stabilized" (aka sales have stagnated) only because people that would have wanted a 5090 have figured out they are getting sodomized and decided to not pay twice what one is worth. That describes where I am at with it. Do I want one? Yes. Am I willing to buy one? No, absolutely not. You're basically spending what it would take to buy two 4090s without getting double the performance and only having one GPU left in the end. That sucks real bad.

 

If it was priced to value I would buy a 5090 and keep my 4090 to use in my second PC or have it on-hand as a spare. So, what seems like a good deal on the surface is still a truly horrible deal and the high trade-in price is probably nothing more than a desperate attempt to move stock on overpriced 5090 cards that are going to start losing value because not enough people are willing to take a shot in the heiney hole to have one.

 

What I think might happen, or at least what I would like to happen, is AMD is going to launch another flagship that sells for half the cost of a 5090, runs like a 5080 or 4090 and all of these $3000+ abortions are going to suddenly not be sellable unless they slash the pricing 30% to 50%. I really hope that is what happens. It's exactly what NVIDIA and the greedy AIB partners deserve to have happen to them. They need to be pushed to the edge of the bankruptcy cliff. Not over, but close enough to scare the crap out of them. It needs to hurt so bad and hurt for long enough that they will not want to try it again any time soon. They don't care about us, so we need to stop caring about them. Our actions need put them into self-defense/survival mode. Those that will be hurt the most will be the poor unfortunate suckers that already drank the Kool-Aid and paid absolutely insane prices for a 5090.

 

Does this mean I like AMD now? Nope. It doesn't and I don't. AMD sucks. But, putting up with their mediocrity and face-melting hotspot temps and slow VRAM  is a better alternative than getting screwed. Look back over the months that have passed since 5090 first launched and take a talley on all of the missteps and shenanigans that have taken place. Besides not being worth it monetarily a lot of stuff was totally botched up. And, we still have the sucky 12VHPWR NVIDIA arson PCIe power connectors.

Hmmm. I wonder how much Newegg sell them for in China region/nearby countries if they try circumvent the US ban. Even with no profits from the trade-in with used 4090's they will go with profits.  I'm sure Newegg have customers ready for the bulk of used cards.  Maybe the US governments should check where they go.

Newegg can easily get rid of the trade-in 4090's. China take them. Every single one of them. Just ship them in bulk. Not much fuzz. One customer take them all is what will be done.

This extended warranty cost $207 dollars with a promotion through Acer. 

I do not typically buy extended warranties. But, with this being a costly and decent machine and all, I would love to hear input on this. Thanks everyone!

Do it. The worst warrant to have is the one that is expired.  If you buy it things will probably be fine and you won't need it. If you do not, chances are pretty good that Murphy's Law will find your wallet and the cost will be greater than the price for the extended warranty. It is good that it includes accidental damage coverage. That makes the price even more attractive. For 3 years' peace of mind I think that is pretty affordable. 

 

For the record, that price for a 3 year warranty is about what a 3 year extended warranty cost was 10 years ago.

Add 32GB vram for  the Radeon card and $1099 and they will fly out. (AI)Creators will love them.

There is stupids that will pay $2300+ for over two years old cards. The 24GB vram buffer as you know. But how will it be when Nvidia push out 24GB cards at $1200 ? Newegg may start pay sub $1000 for used 4090's?

Even though they can buy a used one for $1500 they prefer to pay an extra $1000 (plus interest) to NewEgg so they can finance it and spread it out over time. Death by 1,000 paper cuts. That frees up their cash to buy dolls and action figures to set on top of the GPU to compliment the rainbow puke when they get the GPU.

Hmmm. Those that need 24GB vram for work never buy it this way (at least here home due tax and depreciation). They buy brand new. And the latest tech when they need new. So it has  to be gamers or fools. Or US have different rules for businesses and taxation for work tools.

Been playing around with the 5070FE...

 

@tps3443 here is the V/F curve along with a voltage lock.... 

 

 

Overclocking the 5070FE in WoW nets about ~13% uplift. Every little bit helps....

 

 

My chosen spot for theoretical gpu testing in WoW. You can see how hard RT hits in this spot:

So you're looking at ~64% uplift with RT off in this spot with the 5070 in WoW, insane.

@electrosoft I was just curious if he got into the hidden/advanced BIOS on that Acer as I found a way into the hidden/advanced menus without needing to use SREP. A simple key entry on boot unlocks the hidden 'second' Advanced menu on Acers.

Checking pricing everywhere, 5090 prebuilts have drastically come down in price.

PNY slashed their 5090 prices.

Everything is basically in stock atm of note.

Open box 5090's are now starting to show up on NE, BB and MC - some are 10% off (yawn)  but others not marked down nearly enough to make them a viable purchase.

Even 5090FE's are cracking the sub $3k mark NEW on eBay as they are quickly heading to only being worth purchasing at MSRP for those who are ok with their limitations.

 

5090 laptops have seriously come down in price already.

 

 

Open box Gigabyte Gaming 4090 for $2549.00, Aorus for $2639 on Newegg....

 

You know they were quietly holding onto the returns while buyers ate up those new units.

 

MSI and Gigabyte trying to "panic" the market now referring to the July 9th tariffs cut off and stock piling 5090s to keep prices "sane." The prices are too high and unless they come down, I expect stock to continue to grow in the US. All the misplaced rhyme and reason can't manifest the will to spend that much for a GPU for many.

 

I am insanely glad I returned my Astral 5090 on the last day. I can't convey enough how good I feel lifting that $3600 albatross off my neck. 🤣

5090 Aorus - New entry onto my top end list seems to actually have a superior PCB

5090FE - Cost, form factor, aesthetics

5090 Suprim - Cooling and MSI love along with good PCB

5090 Astral - Top dog IMHO but too pricey for me

 

But in the end, it could be no-name and for the right price, I'd rock the cheapest one out there.

Ah, ok. When you posted that, I was wondering because I didn't know there was a way to get in there ala MSI.

 

I am still waiting on Acer to send the Predator eval 275hx+5070ti OLED my way. It looks like they're finally shipping for sale in the US this last week so that bodes well.

 

I also have an Acer 15.6" Ryzen 5 + 4050 they sent me last year I could try it on too. Do you have a link and/or command sequence during boot?

Hmmm. Asus US Store operates with Notify Me. None 5090 available for sale. Why? Retail got all cards? Or maybe we will see the other side of the coin. Nvidia could easily reduce production capasity and put all resources on coming server chips. Creating shortage is easy. Just reduce production of chips for a while.

A forced shortage won't make a difference if no one wants to pay the prices. On the other hand, Nvidia is having no problems selling their FE editions for $2k. They are constantly sold out so there is a price point that is clearly viable at this moment.

 

What this will tell AIBs is to adjust down their margins from the cash grab they enjoyed the last 5 months to head back to their original launch MSRPs or close enough.

 

Somewhere a price point will be established where consumers will purchase 5090s but now that the initial wave of "price be damned" buyers is sated, we will see where that lands.
