I got slightly past 4.8ghz, but the system kept becoming unstable. I could only max out at about 1.35 volts, anything higher and nothing would change. I'm currently using TS to adjust voltage, but TS can be a bit finnicky.

Is there a way to set a voltage in the BIOS? I have the voltages set to static as I know that's better, but there's nothing that explicitly says Core or VCore voltage options in the BIOS. There's just those weird ratio override settings that I don't mess with and don't know how they work lol.

@Papusan @Mr. Fox You two seem like the guys to ask, you have any ideas?

I accidentally bricked my BIOS, so I'm going to have to do the NVRAM reset, no big deal since everything is open and easy to access, but it made me have to come inside which was annoying lol. I'll fix it here in a bit and then go back out later tonight. I just need to find a better way to set a static voltage, I think that's why I can't push through the 5ghz barrier.

Though, for reference, I hit my previous record of 4.788ghz at 1.492v at room temp. This time I hit about 4.810ghz at 1.348v out in the cold with an ambient temp at 5F...

nice job, you are edging closer to 5ghz which is extremely impressive

on a side note

I downloaded some new drivers and for some strange anomoly I'm able to run can it run crysis settings with raytracing set to performance im getting a playable 30-40fps at 4k with my 3060. last time I checked the 2080ti was getting 40-50fps at 4k so im super impressed with this card, I just wish you pros could help me figure out why my clocks won't go above 1700-1800mhz. my gpu temps are 60-70c so I don't see a thermal reason. I think the next laptop I get will be a xx70 laptop with beastly cooling, tired of this thin and light and medium garbage. I bought this laptop under the impression a thicker chassis must mean cooler. I think alot of it has to do with airflow and thermal paste stock just doesn't cut it when benchmarking.

Does not sound like you have the best sample there. You should not have to be out in the cold to reach more than 4.8 GHz and I would recommend to look for a different processor - could be a better binned 8700K or you could also look at the 8086K, 9700K or 9900K.

Oh no, this isn't the 8700k, it's a ten year old 4710mq lol. This thing does not want to live, but it just keeps going.

Igor’s lab tested (500) 13900K/KF CPU’s for P/E core SP, and IMC SP ratings lol.

It looks like Intel was clearly binning for 13900KS inside of the 13900K chips. The 13900KF bunch found numerous chips beyond an SP rating of SP105+ but in the 13900K bunch, that was not the case. Based on the 13900KS’s specs, It looks like they just select a SP103-SP105+ CPU to be the target chip. This is all speculation, but it makes sense.

Of (132) tested 13900K CPU’s

(2) SP110 was found

(1) SP113 was found

(1) SP114 was found

(7) SP108 was found

I have a 13900K SP110, but I didn’t realize it’s that difficult to find one, even in a pile of chips that dang large!!

So does this mean going for the 13900KF yields the best chances of getting a highly binned chip? If so, I'll target the 13900KF instead since I don't have much of a use for integrated graphics.

That’s what it looks like to me. My very first 13th gen that I pre-ordered was a 13900KF. It was a very good chip! I benched 6.0Ghz P-Cores with really cold water. It wasn’t stable but still, the chip was really good. I’m thinking SP116+

You can find good with either model though. But yes, slightly better chances with KF.

My first 10th Gen was an excellent 10900KF and the best 10th Gen CPU I ever had, but my Apex motherboard died and killed that CPU in the process. I do not remember the SP rating, but I do know it was over 110.

Merry Christmas everyone!

@Papusan thanks for the video, great start - just need one of those gigantic studio mics YTers use, and a some sort of mesmerizing snowy Norwegian background (basically just point the camera at your window) and you are good to go with the channel! All the best bro. BTW The fans were so powerful, I assumed the PC was going to take off from the table ;)

4080 is a flat out superior card over the 3090 and 3090ti. Jaw droppingly so? No, but definitely there.

From a gamer's perspective. Otherwise, it has less VRAM than 3090Ti, no NVLink, and is unnecessarily large given that both the GPU and VRAM are cut down significantly compared to the already pretty cool running 4090 - yet they just lazily kept the same cooler and card dimensions. The 3090Ti FE is slimmer (2.7 slot roughly) which makes a difference in multi-GPU builds.
