you may want to look into omgnvflash and if there is any bios modification possible on turing now 🙂
otherwise there is always modifying the shunts to trick the card into using more power..

Hello everybody! Please tell me, I want to install the 3070 in my new x170sm. Does anyone have firmware to support the 30th series of cards? In order for the card to work with boost and it was not necessary to modify the drivers. Thanks a lot

Hi,

 

I don't think there is. You have to do that separately and that's how you can solve it. Until then, the software change remains. I will try an MXM to PCIe x16 adapter and I will be able to connect any desktop card. All you need is a full modular power supply and a desktop video card.💪🙏

 

So if the RTX 3080 (16GB) MXM card is no longer enough, then this version will come. Preparation in progress. I will put it in the closet and it will be good anytime paired with a current VGA card!😉✌️

Hi everyone, 

I just bought a new Clevo X170SM-G. 

The first problem I encountered is that BIOS does not see my hard drive. I haven't done any manipulations or anything like that. 

I just wanted to see whether the undervolting features are available or not. Unfortunately, they are not. 

So, question #1: Why my BIOS does not see the hard drive? What might be the reason? 
Question #2: Does the XMG BIOS have everything unlocked? If so, how can I find the right BIOS version for my laptop? 

Specs:
Intel i7-10700K.
GPU: RX2060.
SSD: 1TB.
BIOS version: 1.07.04.
Serial number: NKX170SMG000F00686 
I am just not sure which version of XMG to install.
If you need anything else, I'll post it.

you should check sata settings and boot drive settings in bios, those are present in all bios versions.

 

As far as xmg's bios, no, it does not have everything unlocked, I suggest using stock bios from clevo and dsanke's unlocker, which you can find in this thread

Thanks for the advice. 
The problem is the sata is not seen anywhere in bios. 
I tried changing the ACHI to UEFI. This did not help. 

I bought the laptop without Windows pre-installed. 
I believe the problem is not about the sata. But not sure. 
I'd better open the laptop and check it, but it's under warranty.

I managed to install Windows. It was simple: the system saw the hard drive without any issues. 

But I can't install Dsanke's unlocker. I mean I did it but nothing changed.

The first thing I did after installing Windows was run Dsanke unlocker, which I downloaded here. 
it seemed pretty simple. I chose option 1, which is Unlock. 
Then, I saw two successful operations. Once, it told me to press any key to return to the main menu, so I did. 
I reloaded the laptop, entered Bios, and nothing changed in the Advanced - Overclocking menu. There is only one option as before. 

I tried to put off and put in the battery. Nothing changed. 

Do I do anything wrong? 

Dsanke unlocker seems the simplest solution to unlock the undervolting feature, but it doesn't work.

Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Did you restore the default bios settings after the unlock?

Yes, this helped instantly. 
Thank you. 
Now, the goal of all this is to undervolt the processor to make the whole system quieter. 
I did it several years ago on my PC. 
As I remember, I changed PLs and core voltages. 
I tried to find the concise instructions for our motherboard, but I failed. 

Please give me a link to our or similar BIOS instructions so that I can make the necessary changes. Or maybe the menu names and numbers to change. 

I'd also like to change the keyboard lighting. Is this possible in the unlocked BIOS? If so, where is the setting? 
I know we have the Control Center, but if it's possible to make all the changes in BIOS (set it and forget it), I'd rather stick to this.

Last time I tried to make in-deep changes in bios of settings related to CPU optimization ended with bricked bios and I had to reprogram it with hardware programmer. 
I strongly advise you to stick to CC when it comes to CPU optimization if you don’t want to open your laptop to the last bone to reach the bios chip…

I have the PremaMod BIOS on my system but do CPU overclocking through Intel XTU. I do plan on doing some RAM overclocking this weekend as I think I'm starting to get the hang of it from doing it on my desktop.

 

We'll see how it pans out.

I use the clevo control centre for undervolting my 10700k , I can get -80mv on the cpu stable , but it will still hit 100c in some applications.

The only way to tame cpus like 10700 or 10900 in the x170 is to delid it, use liquid metal between cpu and ihs ( copper ihs is preferable) and then ptm7950 ( which is my setup currently, best for contact in my experiences ) for both cpu ihs and gpu, probably with the screw mod discussed here many times and the new fans, with an undervolt of around 80 to 90 mv in order to allow the 10900 to get to 5+ ghz.

 

With this and the standard air heatsink setup, you can get the 10900k to almost 200watts without thermal throttling for a bit, and something like 150w 160w continous without issues ( 190+ starts to be a problem fo me), with a sustainable combined power consumption of around 530w to 540w ( with a 150w 3080).

 

One could probably get better results from having a clean and lapped heatsink +ihs, mine has been stained by LM use, regardless of my attempts to clean it and flitz polish it.

 

Putty or good thermal pads would also be preferable, but one does need to pay attention to vram pads, which need to be quite squishy and soft.

 

Water heatsink setup however could have more headroom, with the obvious issues on movability.

Stained copper is actually ideal as copper that has had liquid metal leech into it is more thermally conductive than regular copper, although I think this has more to do with the gallium that bonds with the copper filling up the pores on the contact plate, thus making the contact more flat.

 

With the heatsink screw mod performed by zTecpc + my delid and full copper IHS from Rockitcool + liquid metal between the CPU and IHS + liquid metal between the IHS and heatsink + a 20 mv undervolt, I can go up to about a 220 watt load on the CPU side indefinitely without thermal throttling. This is enough of a power and thermal budget to sustain a 5.3-5.4 GHz all core speed in games on either of my 10900Ks indefinitely. And no I don't live in the arctic, I live in a temperate climate.

 

Yeah the only way to get the most out of the CPU in this laptop is through mods. You won't get that stock, but you can get a massive improvement from stock if you put in the effort to do said mods.

The heatsink's surface and the copper ihs are heavily stained to the point of uneven surface after months of LM ( conductonaut) use regardless of how irrelevant ion migration from the gallium component is towards copper surfaces, also for some reason LM applications on the heatsink did not last very long at all and it dried out very easily, while LM between cpu and ihs last much longer in my experience.

 

Moreover one should be careful with replacing screws on the gpu's vapor chamber, it can easily bend.

Main issue with a unified heatsink on a laptop will be proper contact, guessing that is why ptm is more adaptable to the situation.

 

Still have not tried the 3 screw mod on the cpu side, was never convinced with it given that it takes you to saw off the smaller fourth mount, but one can replaced those screws and add washers with ease.

 

Besides, there is also the question of power limits. 2 280w bricks won't allow much more than this, but then again usually combined loads see a bit lower wattages from cpu

I also have a Prema BIOS on one of my X170SM-G machines (zTecpc version) and I looked in detail at the options of the BIOS, there is a possibility for everything! My processor has a core voltage of 1.3v+ under 5GHz (R23 Test process Run), which is very high. I looked at Prema BIOS and there is a core voltage setting, you can only enter a number there, but + or - cannot be set. So how do I know what I'm saying now? Do I add or lose?🤔

Personally I always do my overclocking through Intel XTU so I don't brick my machine if I apply bad settings, plus you can perform adjustments so your setting dynamically.

 

This will depend on your chip's silicon quality, but I can apply a 20mv undervolt at 5.3 GHz with the 10900K currently installed in my laptop (5.4 GHz for the better binned chip in my desktop) and it remains stable for me. Up to 1.5v is a safe 24/7 voltage on this CPU within this laptop. Up to 1.6v is safe if you have really good cooling (like custom water cooling, which we can do on this laptop), so I wouldn't worry about the voltage being 1.3v on your CPU as that's not a super high voltage for this specific generation of CPUs.

 

To answer your question on the sign of the offset (whether it is positive or negative), I'll have to jump in the BIOS and take a look to see where that can be identified. I'm pretty sure there's an option to set the offset sign somewhere. I also have not done that memory overclocking I was going to do over the weekend just yet. Unfortunately enabling the realtime memory tuning option in the BIOS causes the system to not boot, so I can't do that on the fly withing Intel XTU unfortunately.

Yes, XTU is also an option, but Prema BIOS is a bit better and pro. (many things can be set in detail, which XTU cannot do - even the ThrottleStop program is better) 🙂 

 

An interesting way is that the (relid/delid OK) i9-10900KF has a 53x multiplier and the TDP is 264W+, it can even be set to more.
Prema BIOS Default is CPU PL1: 360W and PL2: 420W

 

The memory XMP (1-2-3) can be adjusted and all values can be entered completely manually. There is also a separate memory overclock manual section. Maybe I should also see what the IMC and my 4x 32GB memory modules can handle. (2x2x32GB DDR4 3200MHz CL20 Kingston HyperX Impact)

There are setting options that even for an OC Modder approx. unknown....and then what should I say there? I don't want to brick my machine...

 

I set the "Core Max OC Ratio" to 50 and, in theory, the max should be 5000 MHz. frek, but when the machine is turned on, HWINfo starts and I can see that it would be good, because the max. is 4989 MHz. (/core) and after a few seconds it goes above 5GHz...I can't figure out how to fix it.

 

And my BCLK is not 100, but only 99.8 and I don't know why!?
