Now I was wondering if I replace the SM-G card with a KM-G card, will G-Sync be available on the internal monitor?🤔

The +15W GPU Boost is reliable, it already has HDMI 2.1, so 4K 120Hz is also available on the TV, only G-Sync is questionable on the 144Hz G-Sync SM-G model display.🤭

I also just placed my order for a complete (KM-G) motherboard.  eBay handles the entire process.   I paid all the expenses.   At home, I just have to wait for the package to arrive, they take care of everything.  That's perfectly fine.

Is there a full service book available somewhere for the X170SM/KM-G model?

All the parts are there to use the KM-G version and the picture will be complete.

I hope I made the right decision!☺️

I think G-Sync won't work once you upgrade the GPU, but I personally wouldn't worry about it. Gsync is a gimmick anyways since we'd always want our games running at the monitor's max refresh rate anyways for the best experience.

I lost Gsync after replacing my laptop's monitor, and I found it really didn't matter. I haven't missed Gsync at all.

I thought of something else. Service Manual, help. 😄

G-Sync:

By this I thought that the current display would be an SM-G model original G-Sync display using a KM-G motherboard and an RTX 3080 MXM card. How likely is it that G-Sync will work?🤔

It is not of great importance, because in principle it will be supported by HDMI 2.1 (RTX 3080) when connected to a 4K OLED 120Hz/G-Sync TV. No? ☺️

If Gsync is available on the retail packaged X170KM-G, I don't see why it wouldn't work if you're putting in a KM board to pair with your 3080. I'm no knowledgeable expert, though, so please take my opinion and place negligible value upon it.

It will become clear. I take out the SM-G sheet and put the KM-G sheet in its place.☝️😄

When you've replaced the motherboard, I'd greatly appreciate any tips/feedback/advice/suggestions for when I go to replace mine with the SM-G board, please. I've never replaced a board before and don't know what to expect! 😄

For G-Sync to work, the panel subtype should be included in the cookies responsible for the combo GPU=>Panel in the system BIOS. If SM-G and KM-G shared 100% the same 144hz panel, then the G-Sync would work.
Any other subtype (the last two digits of the panel) except for the existing 144Hz one for KM-G - you are gonna lose the G-Sync on the internal display.

…and as far as I know, the Full HD panel on KM-G is either 144Hz or 240Hz or 300Hz…

so there is little chance the G-Sync will work unless your 144Hz is exactly the same model as the one on default for KM-G

anyone interested in smg - kmg heatsinks btw? I got some spare.

I also have a couple of SM-G heatsinks and I also have KM-G, as well as SM/KM-G water cooling block/heatsink.

It's good if you have it.🤭😋😁

Hi,

I need help with my laptop. My GPU temperature reaches 95°C when gaming (even if I'm just watching a stream on TV). I've checked and reapplied thermal paste, but the issue persists.

I've searched forums but couldn't find a solution. If you need any more information, I'll be happy to provide it.

if fans work and temperature takes very little time to get to that point, then it is likely contact issue, caused by either the screws or wrong thermal pads ( either thickness or softness, especially vram ones tend to be picky)

Hi,

Check how well the paste spreads on the cooling surface. Cooler, have any changes been made? Are the screws correct? Share with us a picture of the paste surface after removing the cooler.

The first thing I notice is that there is not enough paste between the two surfaces. What exactly is the paste you use? I can recommend the Noctua NT-H2 paste! Try that.✌️

I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. Do you suggest I reapply it? If so, I'll buy another one.

And it has to be good. Put an appropriate amount of dots in the center and fix the cooling correctly. That must be good!🤔

Kryonaut is not the best solution as it pumps out easily above 80C and you end up with worse temps after time.

For me the best solution is Phobya Nanogrease Extreme

I also used PK1 and PK3 paste. It fit perfectly! I am currently using Thermal Grizzly Kryosheets on both CPU and GPU.☺️

4900MHz? Is that the GPU? I hope not! If it is, this would likely be the issue.

If the 4900MHz is the CPU, and if it's all core, then I'd be inclined to suggest that may be the problem. I couldn't manage more than a 3.9GHz all core at stock without very similar overheating. Try running at the 3.7GHz all core and then increase all core after you observe stable temperatures under load. A -50 to -100 undervolt might also help.

I'd also be inclined to check the exhaust ports are clear and clean, and put some compressed air through the heatsink.
