Have you replaced the board yet? If so, how did it go?

It hasn't arrived yet.
USA comes to EU territory.
It is expected to arrive before Christmas.

for undervolting I try to mess with MSI afterburner but nothing change I don't know if it's work

If your CPU is 3.3 GHz, what was the "4900MHz" you quoted initially?

Have you overclocked the GPU?

Hey everyone!

I've commenced replacing my board and I've encountered a cable which I'm unsure how to remove.

Circled in red in the picture below is the cable which I'm referring to. It runs into the screen. Any ideas how to remove it safely?

Maybe but I am not sure, some software thing is the problem I update the drivers (last thing i want to try is to reinstall windows) unless ther is optimal configuration I can use to make sure everything is in good

I said that because when saw my test results when I bought the laptop for timespy was

Clould it be the BIOS need to some change?

And again I just saying I don't know what causes of the problem and I hope to find solution here

In principle, it has to be popped up from one side and then the other.

I do not observe anything there which indicates "4900MHz".

The CPU and GPU seem to be operating normally.

Is the issue, which you are seeking resolved, solely why there is a difference between the score before purchase and after purchase?

The BIOS on these laptops need to be unlocked for access to performance modification options. There are two options to unlock the BIOS - Brother Dsanke's and Premamod's. Dsanke's is linked in the first post. Premamod's may prove more challenging to obtain as either it needs to have been flashed by the retailer or obtained directly from Prema (God, I love Prema ❤️ )

Pull the cable straight up using the black tab that's attached to it. This is the eDP cable. You'll need to pinch that black tab with your thumb and index finger. It should lift off pretty easily once you pull straight up.

No I didn't overlooked

Here's another thought to try... I noticed increased temperatures when I ran the GPU at stock and the temperatures only decreased once I overclocked the GPU a bit.

Note: I'm no expert on overclocking so please make your own informed decisions. Following my suggestions may not, necessarily, be without risk.

Consider increasing the GPU clock by +50 (you can try and steadily keep increasing it by about +10 increments if you observe that it is stable, up to around +150). Once you've obtained a small stable overclock, increase the memory. Generally, you should be able to manage around a +1,000 increase to GPU memory.

See if that helps.

Guys, what do you think this is?

Pc loads everything, but gpu driver does not load in, also hwinfo does not detect much about gpu.

Device manager reports gpu driver error.

Rest of the pc is useable.

I am assuming this is indeed the gpu, or maybe vram?

Yeah. Gpu needs changing, since reballing or replacing chips is expensive.

Given that this gpu came from a famous listing of used 3080 where most of us got it, I was wondering where, now, I am supposed to get a replacement 3080 mxm. Some ebay listings are marked as "new", but who knows..

There is life even with an i7-10700 processor. Too bad the motherboard! Unfortunately, something died in this board, it used to have an i9-10900KF delidel processor in it and it was running at its peak (5.3GHz+ all core 500W+ TDP all performance) and that may have caused the damage.

There is a water block in the machine, but the external system is not connected, because this processor does not require it. That's perfectly fine. This board will be replaced by the new X170KM-G motherboard. (i9-10900KF and i7-11700K processors are also included, as well as 4x32GB DDR4 3200MHz CL20 Kingston RAM, RTX 3080 16GB MXM card) With that card, the 3080 16GB MXM card will be fully functional, because it will also have GPU Boost!

I did "Override" and since then no picture or sound. I took out the CMOS battery and the battery and it was not connected to the network either. I put it together after 10 minutes, but there is no picture. Shortly after switching on, the keyboard turned blue and that was it. What can be done with this? Is the machine trash? 🙄🤔

Oh my god, I can't believe there are so many users with this laptop。

I bought my X170SMG with 10700K and 2080 Super five years ago from a local Clevo factory。
It worked well until recently when I got a new monitor that supports 4K 240Hz。

However, I found that my laptop could only output 4K at 180Hz, and I realized my Mini DP was running on DP1.2。
So I asked about it on the Chinese version of Reddit and was told that I needed a better DP cable that support DP1.4。 They recommended Kaiboer to me, a brand known for selling silver-plated cables with good performance。

And then came the stupidest part of the story… I visited their store and found that all Mini DP cables were sold out, so I bought a Type-C to DP cable instead since the X170SMG did have a Type-C DP port。
But when I installed it, there was no output—my PC couldn’t detect the monitor at all。 I guessed maybe I needed to enable the Type-C DP function in the BIOS, so I went in and found an option called integrated Graphics , and I thought oh that's it and enabled it.

And then… my laptop bricked. It wouldn’t boot, nothing showed on the monitor, and the keyboard turned blue after a while。 which is exactly the same to what happened to @MaxxD

I tried discharging the motherboard and pressing the FN+D key combo during boot,
but nothing worked。
I asked for help on the Chinese Reddit, but it seems like the only solution is to reprogram the BIOS flash chip。

However, when I connected it to another PC via a CH341 programmer, the software couldn't detect the BIOS chip at all, not to mention rewrite it。

Could you please tell me how did you fix your laptop? @MaxxD

I’ve bought a new programmer and a new BIOS chip, and after I get them I'm giving it one last try.
In the worst situation, I might have to replace the BIOS chip or even the entire motherboard.

Besides that, I also have some questions。
Since there aren’t many users of this laptop around here, I haven't been able to find answers。

  1. Is the highest supported CPU for the X170SMG the 10900K? Would it be worth upgrading from the 10700K?
  2. Is the highest supported GPU the 3080? I was told that most second-hand MXM 3080s available now are leftovers from mining and are of poor quality. Has anyone tried upgrading to a ZRT 40-series MXM GPU? ZRT MXM GPUs
  3. If I want to overclock the 2080 Super, can air cooling maintain safe temperatures? Spending $100 to upgrade to liquid cooling seems a bit expensive.

In my case, the corner of the BIOS chip was broken (contact leg) and therefore had to be replaced. It was most likely destroyed by zTecpc so that the Prema BIOS could not be saved from it. The chip was replaced and the Prema BIOS flashed again. EC was reset and flashed again. In this case, the first departure can take 3-5 minutes!

Max. CPU support i9-10900K/KF I don't think it's worth changing, because the i9 can't do much more. If you want to use 5GHz, then you need the water system, which costs a lot when fully installed.🤔😄

I haven't read about the MXM series 40xx version yet, but according to them it already exists and is being produced? Where is it officially available? What is the price of an RTX 4090 version? X170SM-G does not fully handle the 3080 16GB version either. 150W max. TDP, no GPU Boost either...😌

I am slowly replacing the SM-G with the KM-G motherboard.☝️✌️🤭😋
