Moreover, the solution as posted does not work. Afterburner doesn't allow for power limit sliders in laptops regardless of what you do.

So unless there is something else that needs to be done..

I can confirm that was the last driver where the slider worked. I have posted that before and others, too.

I never used it for a card though that was newer than Turing.

As @MiRaGe says there will probably be issues sooner or later or maybe even now with certain games which is why I think that a shunt mod will be a more flexible and permanent solution but of course there is a certain risk.

Maybe that new Nvidia software that is supposed to also replace Afterburner will help, too but I doubt it as Nvidia has rarely been known to do the right thing in these matters.

and I can confirm that with those lackluster instructions, this trick with the 3080 in the x170SMG does not work. If someone has better ways of describing how this can work, I am of course all ears. Can you show me the posts for the 2080S for our pc then?

That's too bad. If you re-read I was not claiming that the slider would work in your case but it worked for me back then on a different card so in principle this is possible on mobile cards. Back then no specific instruction was needed, it was just a matter of using the standard driver and MSI Afterburner.

This is why I said that I only used it up to Turing and you can find a couple of posts by me and others if you type in 528.24.

Maybe in this specific case you also need the Prema bios?

@MaxxD obviously has the Prema bios it so no idea if others will be able to get 165W without it.

I wasn't referring to your instructions, you posted feedback on your past experiences, which I still would love to see some screenshots of perhaps.

Not sure any iteration of prema bios can help in any way. Some supposed kmg cookies were imported into prema's version of the smg bios, yet we have a number of prema users with 3080 that have the same troubles as everyone else getting it to work properly.

Moreover I still have to see any proof of the claim that dynamic boost in our dtr would throttle cpu wattage. Guess one could ask or look in kmg forum.

Yes!  On my zTecpc machine (X170SM-G) which has Prema BIOS, it works perfectly and the 165W+ TDP is also available! (thanks Prema for the signal!)🤗

I don't know how it will be available in the future, but I have opened a bug ticket to nV Support and I am waiting for a solution to this deficiency from them!☝️

This is not something that hasn't been discussed widely, have a look here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/13pkz35/trick_to_force_nvidia_dynamic_boost_for_mobile_gpu/

Maybe you need to deinstall platform controller manager but I am not sure about that as my GPU back then did not have boost (Turing) so the driver did not help except for reducing power uptake and I have since installed another driver.

And here is a request to implement an override in NVCleanstall:

https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/feature-request-enable-power-limit-slider-for-mobile-gpu-like-driver-528-24.310787/ This also addresses CPU behaviour  during boost.

I have not done any screenshots back then as for me the slider working was not particularly exciting as it was already documented elsewhere.

This is going to be a long waiting at best...don't want to discourage you, but don't hold big hopes on that...

What @1610ftw suggested is the best solution - shunt mod.

I thought it was worth a try.😄

I have an RTX 2080 Super MXM card with a broken corner of the GPU Chip, it might be a useful part for the shunt mod.☺️🤔

He doesn't plan to deal with that right now.  The 3080 card remains factory for now.😋

I am experiencing an interesting phenomenon.  I think the reason is the RTX 3080 card.  Today I also looked at the mDP 1.4 port and sometimes everything is fine, but sometimes the machine restarts automatically.  The HDMI port does not work well either.  This could all be because the BIOS was not written on this card. ☝️ The HDMI 2.0 connector writes 4K 120Hz (max.)...with the 3080 card...of course the card knows it, but the connector doesn't!  No matter how I set it to FHD 120Hz or whatever...it doesn't work well!  The picture starts to flicker, then the machine restarts... (I didn't even try further!)

I need to get an RTX 2080 or 2080 Super card for this too and try it.  I'm sure everything is fine with that.  If it's good with that, then it stays that way and the 3080 is not for this machine... you have to accept that.😔😞

Your HDMI port is not supposed to support more than 4K 60 - can't expect 4K 120 from it 🙂

As for the display port output you should be able to do 4k 120 there. Have you tried if that works with your other SM-G that has the 2080s?

Yes!  The 3080 messes up there... The 2080S machine can handle the maximum 4K 60Hz, 120Hz 1440p, you know, without any problems!

It also has G-Sync, mDP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 cable too! The Clevo X170SM-G (2080S) is a PCSpecialist product from the UK.

In the case of a 3080 machine (which has Prema BIOS), if the HDMI cable is used, there is G-Sync on both the TV and the laptop display, if the mDP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 cable is also connected, then there is G-Sync on it as well.  In the meantime, this is only an appearance, because proper operation is not guaranteed and is not stable!  As soon as I disconnect the HDMI cable, G-Sync disappears (mDP cable remains connected) but the image freezes.

According to this specification, this laptop max.  it can only be used on its own display.  There's nothing wrong with him!  (interesting)😞

Not sure what you are trying to do - have you connected both outputs to one display or to two different displays?

Whatever it is connected to, the end result will be the same.

The only thing I can say is the lack of RTX 3080 support... The BIOS also has a special Prema BIOS.  Only the Prema Team can fix this, but they probably won't, since the BIOS is made for the RTX 20xx series. ☝️🤔😞🤨

Just for my understanding: Even with only the HDMI cable connected to the 3080 unit you get this picture when you output 4K 60 RGB 8 bit?

All resolutions have that error.  G-Sync is the source of the error. (RTX 3080)

Here the error is due to the GPU.

From what I can tell Superbuy will ship to the EU. This is the store listing in Taobao where they can be obtained so you have Superbuy pull up that URL and process a purchase. When I bought them first they received them in China, unpacked and took photos for approval. Then you have to pay the forward shipping fee from China to your address. The whole process took about three weeks from initial purchase. Be sure and watch the Superbuy site everyday because it seems like they need approvals / fees paid without sending email notifications.
