DracoBad
Hi all. Am very new here. Brought a M18x R1 off ebay, but the HDD caddy and cable missing. Have been looking on ebay. Wanting to know can this model accept three or two SATA drivers? Am looking at this item on ebay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/203037336764?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=SkPmPqtuRHa&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=EAWBUecAQX6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Johndill
From checking the M18x R1 schematics, the board is only wired for 2x SATA ports, so you will require Dell part No: 9JP9M HDD ribbon & No: KFNTK for the HDD cage. You can also replace the DVD optical drive with an Orico L127SS ODD to SATA adapter. Maxware79
Yeah the R1 has 2 HHD connectors and the R2 has 3. The ribbon cable on the R2 is wider to accommodate the extra Sata connector so they are not cross-compatible. The one you linked is only for the R2, eBay sellers always make this mistake. Maxware79
Also, just check that the ribbon cable connector on the motherboard isn't missing the locking tab. They are incredibly fragile. This can often happen on the R1 and R1 and the ribbon cable will not work without it. I believe it will be this connector with the black locking tab Alienware Aurora R15 - i9-13900KF - RTX 4090 - 32GB DDR5 Alienware M18x R2 - i7-3920XM - GTX 970M - 16GB 1866Mhz DDR3L - Samsung 970 Evo with MXM to NVMe Adapter - Custom Delft Blue Alienware X51 - i7-3770 - NO GPU - 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 Alienware M17x R3 - i7-2760QM - GTX 580M - 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 Alienware Area 51 ALX - i7-975 Extreme - GTX 980 - 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 Alienware Aurora R2 - i7-3770K - GTX 670FTW - 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 Alienware Aurora R4 ALX - i7-3930K - GTX 1060 - 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 Alienware Aurora R4 ALX - i7-3930K - GTX 670FTW - 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3

Maxware79
Can't do it unfortunately, unless you do the HDD caddy in the optical drive bay. DracoBad
One more question. Can i use a HDD caddy one for a R2 or R3 laptop ?
razor0601
Yes, they are looking a little bit different. But you can use some of another HDD caddy’s from R2 or AW18. I am using an AW18 Caddy in my R2.
