Even in texas they keep telling us it's hotter than usual... the whole climate is going nuts. The whole planet is slowly turning into two seasons, extreme heat and cold.

JWST images MIRI dont seem as detailed as they should be they said hubble was binoculars and the JWST is like a microscope.....so lets see it

I would like to add I live in canada and southern area and we saw temps hitting 40-45c many times before your quite a bit more southern so what do you expect, and yes global warming is real thanks to all who did nothing to help the enviroment just half john attempts like recycle

man if your reasonably smart you can help the scientific community by looking at the photos and thinking up your own hypothesis. just use your imagination and think about whats going on.....your guess is just as good as theirs this JWST stuff is a worldwide effort into understanding the universe

Those Jupiter pics are amazing. Never knew it had rings...

I can't wait for it to get pointed at other more familiar targets too.

Had a silly thought... wondering what would happen if they pointed it towards earth, what sort of resolution images would it get. Similar to our usual satellite images or way better/worse?

apparently its like a space microscope compared to hubble.....earth they would see individual lights at night and buildings during day or pointed when the sun lights the area...as for pluto......I cannot wait..also some of jupiters moons would be nice

thats actually a quite hilarious idea. or how about the stuff left behind on the moon by the apollo astronauts? that would also be sweet. btw, cant wait for artemis to make headway so we can finally get back to the moon! 4K HDR live stream from the moon, anyone? 😁

I don't know if its a joke or not but scientists are finding highly developed galaxys 15 billion light years away. and its not looking pretty for the big bang theory. it might have occured if fact it probably did but not in the time frame we once thought. another thing. they say there is too many galaxys showing up close to the edge of the ob. universe.

Also @Custom90gt Your phone can actually take some pretty amazing photos of the galaxy it just takes pitch black and 30 seconds of exposure. just commenting back about the JWST app joke. your not gullible it is actually possible to take such awe-striking pictures

The article suggested it is more of a chance to see an asteroid up close through some basic instruments, but I'm not sure how much of an opportunity it really will be. It's pretty small, and will just zip past Earth in a matter of minutes tops.

KK, magnitude 10-12 through binoculars, well done BBC.

On a happier note an astroid is scheduled to hit earth on Valentine's Day some year. Only travelling at over 100 000 kmph. No biggie

An asteroid could collide with Earth on Valentine’s Day 2046, NASA says

Might not matter. As if we will survive global warming and ww3

Good thing about worrying about such events is that you can actually meaningfully preprare, as opposed to say AI and/or nuclear apocalypses (probably going to experience both simultaneously, if I were to hazard a guess).
