There are the shunt mods, the area is wide but the layer is super thin.

Dell inspiron 5406 2 in 1.  I have upgraded to a 4tb SSD from the 512gb version (much faster drive as well), and I have added 64gb of ddr4 ram. I installed the 2 512gb ssd from my systems into a dual SSD enclosure and now use both for scratch and project drives while using resolve via a USB C dock.  This provides me with desktop editing performance of multiple drives in a compact travel package.  Add on the second 14" portable display, and 2tb storage HDD enclosure, I have a system on the road that mirrors my home system (with less overall power) and it all fits in my MEC messenger bag.

Great portable power for me!

Workstation - Dell XPS 8940 - desktop creative powerhouse

Mobile Workstation - Dell inspiron 5406 2 in 1 - mobile creative beast

Wifey's Notebook - Dell inspiron 3169 - Little gem for our businesses

I don't believe there is something left to be upgraded besides eventually GTX 1080 MSi (ver. without power connector) with heavy cooling mod.

definitely not much left. u might update the RAM to 2133 sticks and OC them to either 2200 or even 2400. Wifi one or two more gens newer... higher capacity SSDs.... maybe custom CPU heatsink for higher OC:...but yeah performance wise not much more to gain 🙂 good job!

I tried with RAM modules rated at 2133MHz, doesn't boot unfortunately. The CPU is bios-level locked, so no room for O/C with XTU either...

another possibility would be crappy mobo traces causing bad signal integrity. they all need to by in line to support high ram speeds, unfortunately.
