SuperMG Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) M6700, eDP (to LVDS, RGB-MD). P3000 boots to bios but not to Windows (stock VBIOS) P5200 worked in LVDS, now doesn't work in eDP?? (VBIOS eDP issues??, modified VBIOS for M6800 laptop) RTX 3000 works and boots to Windows (HP original VBIOS). I'll test the RTX 4080 and see if it boots, I need to test it fast because not adapted heatsink. Edit: RTX 4080 X-VSION. Works only in HDMI out. Boots to Windows. Didn't work in eDP, despite having the backlight mod cable. Boots to HDMI out with backlight mod cable and by unplugging the eDP LCD cable. What is wrong then?? The backlight cable mod works in Clevo P570WM3 and Dell precision 7720. It's probably the interposer between the eDP cable and the LVDS display. The GPU didn't like and made the entire computer not post. Edited January 8 by SuperMG

There are apparently 2 different versions of the E-Port Plus, though specific information is hard to come by. The earlier version, which I believe I have, is only DisplayPort 1. The PRO2X model is DisplayPort 1.2. Once my new E-Port Plus comes in, I'll update this post. *** The PRO2X model didn't help. I still only get an option for 23/24Hz. I can tell it isn't the cable, because if I use the DisplayPort connector on the side of the laptop, I can get 60Hz at 4k. Unfortunately that defeats the purpose of using the E-Port Plus. I'm open to suggestions. I'm not adverse to opening the E-Port Plus and modifying it. I'm quite handy with a soldering iron. I've had a Weller iron with a perma-tip for 50+ years. 😊

I won't recommend to stick anything HP to it meanwhile because of the heatsink. Some HP cards has a small offset of 0.3cm some don't and that's how I broke mine. 160€ down for nothing. Not getting recognized on my Clevo as well. RGB-MB is the worse option. LVDS will work because HDMI out only uses dGPU so it's full performance. eDP 3D would be great too but it's impossible to get one.

I have one of those showing up in a few days. I'll report back.

RGB-MB (Dreamcolor) screen has a direct connection to dGPU if you can get it to work, so this screen is also full performance. eDP 3D lcd cable is the most versatile one as it can connect a 40 pin eDP screen to modern GPUs,+ there is no display port demux between MXM gpu and eDP connector on the motherboard : Meaning that the eDP version is theoretically limited to the one on the MXM side, meaning 4K120hz+ lcd upgrades are possible with this cable. SuperMG Posted Sunday at 11:01 AM Posted Sunday at 11:01 AM (edited) Hello, someone made a new heatsink on ebay for the M6700. It's compatible for the RTX 3060/3070/3080/4080/4090 But these cards are only compatible in LVDS (Internal screen + big impact of performance) or thru HDMI out (full performance). eDP 3D with backlight mod cable, could work? But with RGB-MB, the mod didn't work. Edited Sunday at 12:07 PM by SuperMG 1
SuperMG Posted Tuesday at 10:10 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:10 PM Okay I bought the eDP 3D cable and a Samsung LTN173HT02 3D 120Hz eDP screen. I paid like 250€ in total and yes I bought the custom heatsink. There are greater chances that the RTX 4080 will work in eDP with the backlight mod because I'll use pure-eDP screen without any "RGB PANEL/Interposer" on the way. RTX 4080 displayed and worked on Clevo P570WM3 (120hz 30 pins display) and Dell Precision 7720 (60Hz 30 pins display) and of course, the Clevo P775TM (1440p 120Hz 40 pins display). All are pure-eDP.
Deor Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Hey guys, So I have a Dell precision m6700 (with edp cable) and I've installed P3000 in it. I've flashed the vBios using CH341A programmer and vBios from the link from this post. In any case you really should enable UEFI and disable the legacy oprom (by forcing only UEFI), otherwise you might wait like 2 min before something shows up on the screen like with my M6700 and P4000. Also a Quadro RTX 3000 (equivalent to 2060) from HP which is very similar to the MXM standard (need some heatsink modification) was working in a M6700 : Dell Precision M6700 : Nvidia Turing (RTX) card discussion thread | NotebookReview | NBRCHIVE Presumably both RTX 4000 and RTX 5000 with vbios 90.06.26.00.0C and 90.06.26.00.0D should works too, the RTX 3000 was running the 90.06.26.00.0B vbios attached in the post below edit : FLASH VBIOS USING CH341A WITH 1.8V ADAPTER, IT'S SO MUCH EASIER AND QUICKER Dell_Quadro_P4000(mobile)_86.04.2B.00.02.bin 512 kB · 95 downloads So the laptop runs and I this time it actually starting windows (Wasn't doing that before flashing) However I don't see the name of the card in Bios and windows is showing Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Any ideas why?
JadeRover Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Yes install driver in windows, you might need to inf mod, (use nvcleaninstall for simplicity) in bios you should have "unrecognized display adapter" or something like that. The fact that you have picture means that the vbios worked Precision M6700 : i7-3740QM | M3000M 4gb +250mhz OC vbios | 20gb DDR3 | FHD ips dreamcolor | delta fans Zbook 17 g3 : i7-6820HQ -75mv | P3000 6gb modded imac vbios | 16gb DDR4 | FHD ips Precision 7720 : i7-6820HQ | GTX1060 6gb, 88w OC vbios | 16gb DDR4 | (crappy) FHD ips Zbook 17 g5 : i7-8850H, -140mv | P5200 16gb | 32gb DDR4 | FHD IPS -> attempting 4K120hz upgrade

Any ideas why? Basically mirroring @JadeRover. Unsupported GPUs will always show as "unknown" in BIOS. This is normal. You also need to do an INF mod to install the NVIDIA driver. This is also normal when you don't have a "supported" laptop model / GPU pairing (at least with NVIDIA). I used to do this by hand, but these days I believe that the tool "nvcleanstall" can do it for you.
