Alienware m18x R2 with no bootable drive in BIOS.

Recommended Posts

So i bought a cheap bios modded R2 (had no clue it was modded actually, seller didnt even mention, so i was sure id have to do it myself) from Ebay and went to see how it ran with my vanilla windows 10 mSata and its not showing up as bootable nor is it even being detected in BIOS. I even tried using the stupid default cable it gives you for booting and used a regular Kingston SSD (Which also has a vanilla Windows 10). Even that didnt show up. I have the setting on RAID and Legacy. The mSata shows up fine on my other R2 but not this new one. Also the modded bios seems to be a little different than the one i have in my main R2. They are both A11 but this new one says Swicks mod and sv17. My main one just says sv17. Ive never flashed a bios before as ive always (luckily) got ones already modded. Do i have to reflash or?

You need to enable UEFI for Windows 8 and higher. Legacy Windows 10 does not support. change it to UEFI and you don’t have to turn off CSM for now if everything starts up ok for you. Because on my second M18x R2 with M6100 it does not detect a video card without CSM, but an M3000M with CSM.

Alienware M18x R2: i7-3920XM @4.7 GHz / 24GB DDR3-2133 /  Quadro P4000 Oc`d

upgraded from: Tesla M6 Oc`d

Alienware M18x R2: i7-3720QM / 16GB DDR3L-1600 /  Firepro M6100

Clevo P751TM: i7-8086K / 16GB DDR4-2400GTX 1080

In past lives:

Alienware 17 R1: i7-4710MQ /  16GB DDR3L-1600 /  Quadro M3000M

So i enabled UEFI mode and still nothing. Not even showing up in the UEFI boot list.

*Update: I even tried using HDD caddie and still nothing.

hi,

you need to clear CMOS or reflash bios. I think something went sideways and BIOS lost BOOT list

Thats what im thinking about reflashing because today i just booted windows 10 via mSata to USB and it worked. Obviously Im not going to do it that way permanently though. I just wanted to see if Command Center would work because some of the lights werent on when i got the rig, so it had me worried. Thats why i made a big deal about getting windows to work right away. All lights worked btw thank god lol. Now, when you say "Clear CMOS" im assuming you mean unplug the CMOS battery and then plug it back in? If so i already did that and still nothing. Im assuming im going to have to reflash this machine. Ive never flashed before so would i be able to reflash a modded bios? or would i have to reflash to vanilla A11 and then reflash again to modded A11?
