Okay remember I was about to buy an RTX 3080 MXM.

It's been ONE week and I still haven't got a single tracking number for it... Are they gonna scam me on this one too? Let's see.

To be honest they only help when you are filling a dispute thru PayPal. Only pay with PayPal when they only accept bank as an online payment.

I never got tracking for 3080. It just showed up one day

Not even a call from the delivery company?

Also does your X-VSION RTX 3080 work on M18X R2? I read the topic of yours but I see no results.

RTX A3000 60W works on M18X R2 and so in AW 18 R1. I need the 130W variant too

I’m waiting for my custom heatsink to be made. Once I get my M18xR1 from repair I’ll test in both R2/R1 with some results. Don’t want to use my a4500 heatsink since it doesn’t fit properly

Hello. I got the RTX 3080M. Tested it.

I got a score of 9300 scores on TimeSpy. What are your scores with the RTX 3080 MXM?

I can't even close the laptop nor tighten 4/4 of the screws, very annoying...

IMG_20250121_170542_817.jpg

try fire strike as well. Score seems low? But I am more familiar with fire strike scores. I haven't benched my 3080 yet because I need a custom heatsink

After looking at my Area-51 R1 TS result, I guess it's not too bad.

I think mine was running at 115W and not 150W. Weird. Your 2080 ran at 165W ?

Area-51m R1 2080 runs at 200w naturally from the factory. It's DGFF not MXM 😉

THIS is why your card probably is performing like that. 3080 at 115w ain't keeping up with a 200w 2080. You need a 150w vBIOS probably or even 130w would help.

What was max temps and what are you cooling it with?

You also want to OC your CPU. if it's an XM then at least 4.4Ghz.

If it's 3840QM > 4.1Ghz

3820QM > 4.0Ghz

3740QM > 3.8 or 3.9Ghz (forgot how high it can go)

etc.

X-vsion said it was a 150W version. BIOS states 115W. They told me it's normal and software reports badly uh.

I would like someone to test the RTX 3080 MXM on an Alienware too.

I use the "GTX 1070 heatsink from eBay" + PTM9750. I modded the heatsink so bad because it won't fit + LCD cable won't clips.

Max temps are 83-84C

Got 9400 for GPU score after.

upload your vBIOS here. Let's see.

150w vBIOS should get 11k+ score, so even with a older system like M18x, I'd expect 10k.

I'll check later how much RTX 5000 gets. 9.4k still isn't too bad. Try firestrike and port royal as well.

I'll dump the bios later, as I remember it reads as a 115W bios on the control panel.

Although, X-vsion sent me a screenshot of Timespy, they indeed got 11k with 150W. Why can't mine reach the 150W scores then?

hi,

Good job with the upgrade.

It does look a bit low, as my 3070 RTX on my TUF (Ryzen 7 6700H) gets around that score.

Obviously your global score is lowered due to the very low CPU score (which is normal for gen 3 core i7)

Open the program gpu-z, go to the advanced tab and select nvidia bios there will be specified power limit for this video card. in general it is interesting that you post screenshots and general information gpu-z about this card

I got 9490 TimeSpy. CPU still low and the same despite doing 4.1GHz on two cores and 3.9GHz on two cores with ThrottleStop.

I remember the A3000 did 4100-4200 lol

Got 24k in Fire Strike Standard. Max temp was 87C and max power was 118W.

Temp is already very high, do You have any mods planned to improve cooling? I changed vbios in my 1070m from 115 to 125 and temps rised a few degrees, i needed to downclock and undervolt to keep it in line, otherwise temps went above 90 and card throttled so no point to do that without some very efficient cooling mod.

Hi, I don't know about the rtx3080, but the rtx5000 triggers thermal throttling at 85c. I had a similar problem with  heatsink and I think with any gpu-s with 120w and more will be a problem.

What? I already modded the cooler to fit inside the laptop, it took me 3-4 hours of dremel. 87 is the max degree. It means it was averaging 75C during benchmarks.

I think the GPU is really doing 115W. I think the 150W was coming from their MXM to PCIE adaptor. There's a resistor number 007.

Have a look on your screenshot from gpu-z, gpu clock/gpu temp/hot spot/gpu load/power draw. If it averages at 75 it doesn't mean it's running with this temp. If you reach max 87 it means during heavy load it's working with that temp. It's too much, but hey, it's your card.

Why is keyboard half working guys?

Also the speakers from the Alienware stopped working. Using SG or IGFX same results.

Edit: Speakers are working again, problems with drivers.

Keyboard is still glitching out on which keys should work... Maybe broken ribon cable... That what happens when you disassemble too much I guess

It's still good because there are no thermal throttles otherwise the score would be under 6000 if throttled!

m17x r4 / m18x r1/2 KB are known to be very sensitive. Check without the adapter if you can, as sometimes it can be the culprit. You may try to find another KB (I have one spare QWERTY "as new" if you don't).

Yeah I tested an old defective one. The keys that are working on the defective aren't working on my other keyboard.

I don't know why, some of the keys are working again but seconds after I touch the keys, they stop working and the rest are working...

External USB keyboard, all touches work.

I bought a new keyboard for 87€, blue ribbon. I'll see.

My AW18 R1 keyboard is still working.

Here are the results for RTX 3060 12GB MXM with i7 4930MX at 4.1GHz

Some reasons board does max 70W, instead of 80-90W! Tested on AW18 with 100W heatsink. Trimmed the fins to make it fit. Normal thermal paste, no PTM7950

6900-7000 on Timespy.

IMG_20250124_165831_897.jpg

So 3060 works in AW18 but not 3080?
