Chrome wouldn't run on x170 when I first got it, so I switched to Edge. I like it well enough. Firefox always struck me as a little clunky but i routinely have to use all 3 to fix something that works in one but not another.

Google's new AI summaries are getting advertising
https://www.sweclockers.com/nyhet/38868-googles-nya-ai-sammanfattningar-far-reklam

Anyone who thought that AI overviews could be used to get a quick summary of their questions without simultaneously receiving sponsor messages may be disappointed. No one who has followed developments in recent years should be surprised, however, as Google has been accused of degrading its own search service in order to make more money from users' searches.

And google looks more and more as a disaster. You can't trust the search results with and from Chrome anymore.

Google’s AI Overview is a “disaster”

Google's new AI search engine AI Overview generates strange errors. The search engine provider is now deleting them manually.

Google set to phase out Manifest V2 in a few days, breaking many ad blockers

THE YEAR OF FIREFOX: Google initially announced the Manifest V3 API in 2018, but the new extension technology was delayed several times because of the intrinsic limitations it imposed on ad blockers and security add-ons. Now that it is ready for release, Mountain View will begin phasing out Manifest V2 extensions in Chrome next month.

I can no longer remember why I initially decided to go this way, but I have never had problems with Opera browser and it remains the main and most convenient for me. Now I want to try to interact more with Chrome and Firefox and I think it might also be a good choice.

Google Created an Illegal Monopoly in Search, Judge Rules Pcmag.com

Google created an illegal “monopoly” by paying partners to make its search engine the default on today’s smartphones and mobile browsers, a federal judge ruled today.

Google is a monopolist, and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly. It has violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act,” wrote Judge Amit Mehta in a 277-page ruling.

Google is sentenced for illegal monopoly today 11:00

US court has determined that Google's search business is a monopoly. No penalty has been imposed, but Google plans to appeal.

The legal process, which started in December 2020 , has been long, but the verdict has now landed: Google's search and advertising operations are an illegal monopoly.

After careful consideration of testimony and evidence, the court comes to the conclusion: Google is a company that has used its market position in an illegal way to maintain its monopoly. They have violated the Sherman Act. - Judge Amit P. Mehta

Google plans to appeal, but if the appeal is unsuccessful, Google's search business is now officially condemned as an illegal monopoly.

Google is killing one of Chrome's biggest ad blockers

uBlock Origin will soon stop functioning in Chrome as Google transitions to new browser extension rules.

uBlock Origin should continue to work fine on other browsers, including Firefox, Edge, Opera, and other Chromium-based browsers that support extensions, like my new browser bestie Vivaldi.

I use that and the old version of Chrome that still works for Windows 7, but the Chrome nagging really pisses me off. They really need to mind their own business. As long as it works I simply do not care if it is updated.

That's great news, but that link has a tracker embedded in it.  uBlock Origin warned me.  Some shady-sounding "skim resources" site.  Dunno if its origin is wherever you copied the link from or if the forum added it on or what, but that's part of the reason I'm using uBlock Origin!

I believe the intended link is https://whattrainisitnow.com/calendar/, and that Firefox version is 115.x.

Been using duckduck on mobile for a good while, very happy, light, fast and no apparent annoyances.

Just trying to install it on laptop, but appinstaller does not launch (windows can't open this type of file, ltsc thing?). Must be some solution.

ok, quick search, seems some ms store stuff has to be running, nothing of that on my Dell, so must investigate.

Anyway, does Firefox got a real competitor ? Anyone using duck, impressions ?
